<chewitt>
rdorsch: without knowing where the extra cpu cycles are being spent it's hard to answer the question
<chewitt>
but since the entire video pipeline changed .. it's likely the cause
<chewitt>
also hard to comment on the video quality with imx6, it's probably the only SoC in our lineup that I've never owned
<chewitt>
the more subjective test would be; is it better, worse, or the same when comparing to older LE releases using the vendor BSP kernel
<chewitt>
if it's worse, the regression can be explored with upstream kernel devs
<chewitt>
if it's the same, you're seeing hardware differences between vendors; different pipelines do give different results

hi, will the auto-update update libreelec from the 9.0 release to 9.2 versions?

or do I have to do the update from 9.0.x to 9.2.x manually?

<chewitt>
uso manually.. we see too many issues with add-ons when updating to force the update on users
<chewitt>
the OS and Kodi itself is the easy part (since it's all in the same SYSTEM file which we control)
<uso>
chewitt: thanks, so it's safe to do the upgrade manually and I do not have to reinstall the 9.2 version
<chewitt>
reinstall is almost never required, but 'safe' is very subjective to any customisations you made
<chewitt>
add-ons are generally the thing that messes up, if there's a problem
<chewitt>
but 9.0 to 9.2 should be fairly uneventful
<chewitt>
there's a backup function in the settings add-on
<chewitt>
worst case it's always simple to reinstall and restore a backup
<chewitt>
I used to put "your failure to make a backup is not our problem" on blog posts :)
<uso>
chewitt: already done and still working, at least the base functionality
<uso>
shouldn't you update your topic? it gave me 9.2.6 as stable version?
ChanServ changed the topic of #libreelec to: [ LibreELEC Support Channel ~ current release: (Leia) 9.2.6 ~ No discussion/support for piracy addons ~ Log: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/libreelec ]
<uso>
as far as I understand it there's no package manager for libreelec, you can ony install software which is available from add-ons
<uso>
or is there any recommended way to install small system utilities?
<chewitt>
most of the ones you're likely to need are in the system-tools add-on
<uso>
(like ithe file or host commands)
<uso>
at least I found rsync after some searching, so my biggest problem is solved
<chewitt>
for anything exotic app-wise you can install docker
<chewitt>
bit of a "sledgehammer to crack a walnut" but it's a means to an end
<uso>
I'm using raspies and think about switching to libreelec because it's slimmer and faster, so docker is probably not what I want to run :)
<uso>
the lack of a package manager so far was holding me back to switch, but it looks like I may be able to live without it

chewitt, strange thing is that both tvheadend client and the zdf mediathek addon get an h264 stream. With the zdf mediathek, the video is perfect, with the tvh client it is much worse.
<rdorsch>
I did not see any significant entries in kodi.log
<rdorsch>
Also mpegs do not play (only sounds).
<rdorsch>
But overall the progess of imx6 is quite impressive, taking into account the situation a few weeks back.

the proprietary stack is overall still somewhat better, but the difference gets smaller.
<rdorsch>
I run the tvheadend server on a different machine, maybe I should upgrade there also to the latest version to avoid, that it is an incompatiblity in tvh
