<dirtwash>
so does anyone here know if HDMI cable revision does matter? I find conflicting information
<JohnDoe_71Rus>
only if cable does not have some contacts
<dirtwash>
JohnDoe_71Rus: yea I mean its a frikking cable right, but somehow I read conflifcting information, but I guess it just applies to the ports, not the cable
<dirtwash>
because e.g. HDMI 1.4 does not support HDR
<dirtwash>
but most HDMI cable are sold as HDMI 1.4 ?
<dirtwash>
except fancy ones
<JohnDoe_71Rus>
if it's a cheap cable, they can save on shielding.
<dirtwash>
ok so it doesnt matter then
<dirtwash>
good
<dirtwash>
never made senes to me coz its frikking copper cable
<dirtwash>
same BS as with speaker cables in hifi scene it seems
<JohnDoe_71Rus>
cable it's just wire
<dirtwash>
yea well apparently they have different specs
<dirtwash>
so maybe they have different contacts inside te HDMI connector no idea
<dirtwash>
i still read both
<dirtwash>
well i'll see

dirtwash: slight difference in hardware cabling for ethernet over hdmi devices. v1.4 spec required for that. In general, at the high frequencies of the signals along the cable, it not "just wire". Poor quality cheap cables may not have the bandwidth for all intended uses. Diameter, composition, shielding, proper twists, all matter. Much like you're not going to get gigabit network speeds out of cat 3 cable.
<mack->
that being said, most hdmi cables on the market are good enough. But if you get old stock relabeled a v1.4 or some from QA rejects dumped onto ebay, etc, your mileage may vary.

* dirtwash
just realized he forgot to order some ferrite cores
<dirtwash>
mack-: guess I'll see if that sony branded quality cable will get me 4K HDR
