hipboi you need all the libs it uses as armel
<hramrach_>
maybe some kernel compat support if it's a really old app

is here anyone who have access to mele m5?
<Tsvetan>
I do wonder is SATA is working as I asked Allwinner for SATA code for A20 and they said they have no :) but hno says mele M5 have SATA and must work
<hipboi>
Tsvetan, i have mele m5 at cubiesote
<hipboi>
cubiestore
<Tsvetan>
tom does mele have working SATA?
<hipboi>
not sure, have never used it
<Tsvetan>
:)
<hipboi>
but cubieboard2 have working sata
<hipboi>
ported from a10 iirc
<Tsvetan>
ok so the SATA is OK on A20
<hipboi>
yes
<Tsvetan>
dimitar is trying to do the same
<Tsvetan>
do you have the sata sources for cubie2 on github?
<hipboi>
hramrach_, it turns out yes, armel apps can run at armhf
<bfree>
fyi, debian's 3.9 (in unstable but arm not built yet) and 3.10 (in experimental, no arm yet) have the armmp flavour with upstream sunxi support. my poor cubie has spent the last 12 hours pbuilding away at a full build of armhf 3.10+emac (plenty of hours still to go). a quick+dirty cross compile of just the armmp targets built so fingers crossed it'll work and I'll upload it
<bfree>
zumbi: how's that build farm coming along? ;-)
<oliv3r>
hipboi: including micro SD adapter :p
<hipboi>
oliv3r, yes
<oliv3r>
\o/
<oliv3r>
awesome
<oliv3r>
i can finally start testing 3.4 so we can depreciate 3.0 sooner
<oliv3r>
hipboi: your the best :)
<oliv3r>
Turl: i have not done a single sunxi thing all day today.
<oliv3r>
playing with new phone :) cyanogenmod running now
<hipboi>
oliv3r, which model
<bfree>
if anyone with A10, A20, imx6 (odroid, ????) wants to do some kernel compile benchmarks I'd be curious to see the results ;) ~5h for a single flavour full debian kernel on the A10 (w/ sata disk) is a little painful
<oliv3r>
samsung galaxy s2 :p
<oliv3r>
it's a 2nd hand phone
<oliv3r>
i bought it 'cheap'
<Turl>

well, jid, too
<oliv3r>
1 min 45 second for full u-boot + 3.10 kernel build :)
<rz2k>
I have yuq's mtd driver reading the id of my chip and identifying everything well, but there is a bug in MTD framework that I cant fix
<oliv3r>
slapin_n1: pff, who needs food!
<rz2k>
may we speak in pm about it?
<oliv3r>
if soviet russia, food eats you!
<slapin_n1>
rz2k: which one?
<slapin_n1>
rz2k: of course
<rz2k>
they are both equal for u-boot and nand i think (nand_base.c and friends) :p
<slapin_n1>
oliv3r: there's no soviet russia any more
<hramrach_>
that does not stop the food from eating you
<hramrach_>
nobody told it ;-)
<bfree>
guess I should follow the lists ;) even ~3h instead of ~5h per flavour would be a bit less painful (or maybe ~10h for the full package instead of ~20h ... but only guessing at that, closing in on 13h now but I think it's nearly finished the 3 linux-[image|header] flavours) :-p
<bfree>
oliv3r: cross compiling, pfffft ... at least I presume you don't have a big arm distcc cluster ;)
<zumbi>
bfree: tbh, I had not time for, and I am fighting insurance company to return to me few computer goods which affect that build farm.. so it is still wip, not much progress
<bfree>
zumbi: no problem, I understand, I just had to poke you about it in the context of the line above it ;)
<zumbi>
bfree: sure, glad you did.. refreshed my todo :)
y0gurt has joined #linux-sunxi
<oliv3r>
bfree: i should make distcc do cross compile; shouldn't be too hard
<Turl>
bfree: what about making a debian arm chroot and using qemu-system-arm to do the magic and 'native compile' that way?
<hramrach_>
I don't expect that to be blazingly fast but at least you get fast disk
<bfree>
Turl: I did try that once and it was as slow as real native (perhaps I missed some tricks to improve things ... I did ponder trying to setup a distcc cluster of arm VMs)
<bfree>
my cubie has a 3.5" sata drive attached at least
<Turl>
bumped -j?
<hramrach_>
nor is distcc. even if you distcc to a cross toolchain on powerful machine you still have to collect and link the result on a slow arm
y0gurt is now known as theborger
<bfree>
Turl: yeah I probably should go back to play with that more, tbh I'm not sure wtf I tried back then in terms of -j, possibly I "missed" that obvious improvement

<oliv3r>
hramrach_: distclean/mrproper should clean it mostly
<wingrime>
rz2k: 4 layers are minimal in that case
<hramrach_>
it does. it still does not build
<rz2k>
i know
<hramrach_>
same with clean tree
<wingrime>
rz2k: cheap FR4 will work ?
<hramrach_>
oliv3r is that bsp some magic pixie dust that makes things build?
<wingrime>
rz2k: I think about using a13 like MCU without external RAM , with i2c flash -- cool cortex m replacment
<oliv3r>
hramrach_: nah; but it does a good job of seperating source from objects + configs
<oliv3r>
so you can simply rm -r build; and your source is 'clean and untouche'd
<oliv3r>
the bsp cleanly 'injects' your config
<hramrach_>
I just check out repo, read README, and run the make command. If that's not how it's supposed to work the README is bogus. Plus it does work on the sunxi branch so the sunxi-current is likely just broken
hansg has quit [Quit: Leaving]

wingrime: good luck jtaging it without reference manual
<bfree>
Turl: I recalled qemu-system-arm isn't much use (unless a cluster) as you can't throw much ram or cpu at the supported machines. I did give qemu-user-arm a go with a chroot under a kvm VM (-j12 with 4G ram, -smp 6 and virtio hd) and it took about 2h for the armmp linux-[kernel|header] debs which is a big improvement Vs 5h on the cubie ;) course I bloody forgot "time" for an accurate number (and doing it native instead of in the VM would be better
<bfree>
again)
<Turl>
bfree: 'can't throw much ram' ?
<bfree>
afair the supported qemu emulated machines top out at 1G ram

drachensun: ILL is illegal instruction so that might be the problem
<hramrach_>
I have no idea what instructions A8 has that A7 does not but maybe there are some
<drachensun>
Yeah, I'm looking at the features list now
<hramrach_>
plymouth dying is not a problem but if more important process dies for the same reason you get stuck
<drachensun>
it all looks identical, just the A7 is newer with lower power consumption
<hramrach_>
it should not be identical
<drachensun>
basically its all dying, this happens next
<drachensun>
mountall main process (55) killed by ILL signal
<drachensun>
I checked out buildroot and its building for Cortex A9
<drachensun>
and its outputs seem to work
<drachensun>
hmmm
<drachensun>
software floating point
<hramrach_>
a3 is softfloat?
<hramrach_>
a31
<drachensun>
Ok, the cortex A7 has VPFv4 not VPFv3 like the A8
<drachensun>
buildroot is making a soft float rootfs by default
<drachensun>
that is working
<hramrach_>
it has one and not the other?
<hramrach_>
that's lame
<ssvb>
the NEON/VFP support can be simply disabled in the kernel
<ssvb>
in this case it will sigill
<drachensun>
ok
<hramrach_>
yes, that's good point
<hramrach_>
it should not be possible to do if the kernel is built for the right arch
<hramrach_>
but whatever
