<mnemoc> hi, anyone using rtl8188eu? I've pushed a very naive (and untested) forward port to 3.4 as wip/stage-3.4/rtl8188eu if someone can take it from there
<mnemoc> atm I can't even seen if it doesn't panic on load, but at least compiles :p
<lunra> mnemoc: Awesome. I'll give it a go :D
<lunra> Hm, will my 3.0 config work with 3.4 without major changes?

<lunra> I guess I'll try without that module

<rz2k> how to control PWM backlight on A1x? it is set by lcd_pwm_* in script.bin, but default setting is too low, android on boot sets it to max somehow. are controls for PWM backlight exposed to sysfs?
<rz2k> i saw functions on setting it in lcd module, but I dont know if it is exposed to userland
<rz2k> probably anyone who build android for tablets can answer this :p
* rz2k ping Turl

<ssvb> hramrach_: hi, now we can use android cedarx libraries - http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve
<mnemoc> \o/
<hramrach_> hello
<hramrach_> nice :)

<Undertasker> ssvb, what impact does this have for XBMC on A10?
<hramrach_> it works then?
ganbold__ has joined #linux-sunxi
ganbold_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<ssvb> Undertasker: I have only tested VLC, but the CedarX port of XBMC should also work
<Undertasker> Link? ;-)
<Undertasker> Well, that was easy.
<Undertasker> Binaries, anyone?
<ssvb> you can ping rellla when he is back
<ssvb> hramrach_: yes, it works for me, but additional testing is definitely welcome
<Undertasker> Do you have a working vlc binary?
<ssvb> and it also becomes obvious that we need to do something about packaging and deploying this stuff to the end users
<Undertasker> .deb?
<ssvb> Undertasker: be patient, that's still a work in progress :)
<hramrach_> how did you inject the library? seems xbmc has a private libve copy
<ssvb> hramrach_: does it use libvecore.so ?
<hramrach_> libvecore.so => /allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib/libvecore.so (0xb5fea000)
<ssvb> hramrach_: you can replace it with a symlink to the libhybris wrapper
<Undertasker> So, coming back to xbmc, all I have to do is compile xbmc natively, and then compile and install libhybris with CedarX libve patches?
<hramrach_> hmm, I have nothing to wrap
<ssvb> hramrach_: you mean no android in nand?
<hramrach_> need to copy the nand image back to the board because x86 does not understand the partition table /o\
FunkyPenguin has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<Undertasker> losetup should handle this
FunkyPenguin has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> Undertasker: in theory, yes (regarding "all I have to do is compile xbmc natively")
<ssvb> Undertasker: in practice there might be some rough edges
<hramrach_> so long as the kernel understands the partition table
<hramrach_> it just works on Debian/Ubuntu
<Undertasker> Yeah, I know, doesn't look too easy
<hramrach_> it has private libump and stuff copies
<hramrach_> no need to have anything exotic installed
<hramrach_> but it needs the X server and the X sunxi driver needs the mali libraries anyway
<ssvb> hramrach_: using android from nand is just convenient and resolves the gray area related to redistributing these blobs
<Undertasker> The dependencies look like "apt-get install all"
<ssvb> hramrach_: you can still fetch the same blobs from some git repositories without installing android on your device
<libv> ssvb: i would really like to see ARM trying to threaten with any legal issues there
<hramrach_> I have a saved image just need the arm kernel to look insideit
<hramrach_> especially since cedar is likely gpl violating anyway
<mnemoc> libcedrus!
<Undertasker> The other way round. FSF sueing ARM.
<libv> and cedarx seems allwinner specific
<ssvb> hramrach_: be aware that you also need a recent android image, they unfortunately had some changes in libve library ABI
<libv> and gpl violation... i wish them good luck with any attempt
<hramrach_> I have something that came with Cubieboard
<ssvb> this reminds me that I need to add some extra compatibility checks and proper error handling to the libhybris wrapper :)
<Undertasker> As always, 10 lines of code for the actual fuction, and 100 lines for handling of every possible error
<ssvb> maybe the image from cubieboard is fine, but ICS image for Mele A1000/A2000 from http://rhombus-tech.net/allwinner_a10/hacking_the_mele_a1000/android/ is not
<Undertasker> http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC refers to Mele
<mnemoc> watched charbax's videos of mele's factory? it looks awesome
<Undertasker> Not easy to get a Mele box here, though
<mnemoc> aliexpress?
<Undertasker> I just made my first 2 buys through aliexpress.
<mnemoc> where is "here"?
<Undertasker> The first one didn't arrive, and the second one was faked crap.
<Undertasker> Germany
<ssvb> Undertasker: the hardware is the same, so cedarx code should work on cubieboard, mele, <insert anything allwinner a10 based>
<mnemoc> Undertasker: aliexpress can refund you on both cases
<Undertasker> I hope so.
<libv> Undertasker: why did you not head to pollin.de ?
<libv> Undertasker: there is a device which is supposedly highly similar there
<mnemoc> Undertasker: they don't pay the seller until you are happy
<mnemoc> aliexpress I mean. but german customs are annoying, so buying locally is a better idea
<libv> not sure whether uart is as easily available though
<Undertasker> Pollin is too expensive. I have a Mini-X like box, an A10 stick and a cubieboard
* rm just checked, 63 orders so far from Aliexpress
<rm> with 3 to 5 different items commonly per order
<Undertasker> Currently I'm not in the mood to buy from Aliexpress again
<libv> Undertasker: 80EUR + postage is not more expensive than a mele + customs
<mnemoc> and the TIME wasted in the customs office
<libv> yeah :(
* mnemoc always gets his chinese products delivered directly (and untaxed) on his door :p
<libv> mnemoc: i did end up paying customs on the odroid-x2, but fedex just invoiced me for that :)
<Undertasker> I'd rather buy a A20 cubieboard and make my own housing
<Undertasker> Mostly shipments from Hongkong or Singapore are fine, but mainland China is horrible. Alos sometimes they are too dumb to get the customs declaration right.
<libv> Undertasker: so i take it that those mele's were supposed to be bought in the past?
<Undertasker> If you get XBMC working, who knows? :-)
<Undertasker> Currently I'm using Raspis for XBMC, but they suck in other ways.
<hramrach_> does video palyback really work on rpi?
<Undertasker> Yes, If you overclock it a little bit, 1080p runs smoothly

<ssvb> maybe it's wrong abi or some other incompatibility
<ssvb> and copy the cedarx files from git over the android "/system/lib" (making a backup of old stuff if necessary)
<hramrach_> yes, those look good
<hramrach_> no artifacts so far
<hramrach_> still slideshow, though
<hramrach_> I don't think I have seen that video play well on anything yet
<techn_> hramrach_: is your ui fluid in general?
<techn_> in menu in example
<hramrach_> reasonable
<techn_> ~24fps or more?
<hramrach_> 24fps is good enough for pretty much anything
<hramrach_> there was some measure somewhere
<hramrach_> system info says 46 fps
<hramrach_> in 1280x1024
<techn_> for me xbmc gives 28fps with 1080p and almost 60fps with 720o
<techn_> 720p
<hramrach_> for me it gives like 1fps with this particular video
<hramrach_> another 1080p video works ok
<hramrach_> well, mostly
<hramrach_> I gues it just can't take scenes with too much movement
anunnaki has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<ssvb> hramrach_: thanks for testing, can you also check the same videos in android?
<ssvb> it would be interesting to know if the cedarx libraries are still not perfect or libhybris/xbmc is doing something wrong
<ssvb> regarding problems with a lot of motion, I wonder what is the current clock frequency of cedarx hardware? can we increase it?

paulk-desktop has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
<techn_> but I think nand must contain fex file in some raw partition
<slapin_n1> techn_: why? I thought we're going to migrate to DT? and that is supposed to be script.bin you're talking about...
<techn_> brom -> boot0 -> boot1 -> boot.axf -> u-boot -> kernel .. u-boot spl will replace boot1 and boot.axf?
<techn_> or both boot0 and boot1?
<slapin_n1> brom->spl->u-boot->kernel
<techn_> since I think brom, boot0 or boot1 reads that raw partition :/
<slapin_n1> boot0 reads boot1
<slapin_n1> and boot0 is read by brom
<slapin_n1> brom reads only boot0
<slapin_n1> the rest is defined by software IIRC
<techn_> anywayb boot0
<techn_> ..
<techn_> anyway brom or boot0 knows which debug uart is used in fex file flashed to some raw partition
<techn_> If I use MicroSD breakout board and flash image with uart set to stantard output I dont see logs.. after I set it to SD card output it works
<techn_> I can see boot0 logs: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?6,8481,8690#msg-8690
