<xtofury> ok these instructions are bad: http://linux-sunxi.org/Building_Android_TV_image
<xtofury> the wget command there links to a file that does not exist.
<xtofury> the file appears to have been moved, so I used this command instead: wget http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a10-cubieboard/android/cubieboard_opentv.tar.gz
<xtofury> so I proceeded with the instructions as they have been laid out, but have run into a problem, because obviously something is different with this source versus the source that used to be linked.
<xtofury> when it says "cd cubieboard_opentv/", there is no such folder called that.
<xtofury> here is the structure that I do have: http://pastebin.com/XAKrwA4F

<hno> mnemoc, yes I have an EOMA68-A20.
<hno> arokux1, you should have some interest in what problem the board is supposed to solve, then find how to solve it. Can be anything that intersts you, but need something that limits the scope and provides focus on a target.

<pitillo> hello good morning. Does someone know if this cflags for cubieboard2 are right? -mcpu=cortex-a7 -mfpu=vfpv4 -mfloat-abi=hard I've been reading and this seems to be the safest (Could be good to change to -mfpu=neon-vfpv4 or this could give some problems? We are avoiding thumb2 as our experience was a bit hard in the past)

<Turl> 2 eur difference
<arokux1> Turl, thanks, didn't know olimex sells them too.
<Turl> arokux1: well, buying directly from aw is going to be a bit hard I guess
<arokux1> Turl, should be a very big order, right?
<Turl> I don't have any real details, but I suppose so
<mnemoc> even cubietech gets theirs from resellers
jeremb has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<mnemoc> iirc wits sold 1k A10+AXP "sample" pairs directly to Olimex
<arokux1> I've found this on olimex website
jeremb has joined #linux-sunxi
<arokux1> the info is outdated however, because they sell A13 for 10.50 EUR already
<mnemoc> the idea of that note is to let you know you have to buy SOC+PMU pairs
<arokux1> but nevertheless, after 100 pcs it gets cheaper
<arokux1> mnemoc, but also the pricing for different bulk orders.

<hno> blunden, sdcard.
<hno> arokux1, EOMA68-A20 price is not set. Each buyer set their own price to sponsor the project at this time.
<hno> Turl, there was some EOMA68-A10 cards made. Have had one for a while...
<blunden> hno: ok, thanks :)
<hno> arokux1, if you want AW chips in small quantities then best to buy them via Olimex. If you reach 100K or so then maybe AW directly. For some thousand chips the spot market.
<arokux1> hno, I see, what about next batches?

<pitillo> arokux1: we are collecting info to build the cubieboard2 optimized release. I have that doubt and may be someone here can point us to the best option (best and safest). I haven't asked for the cubieboard CFLAGS. Do you mind taking a look to them and give me your opinion?
<pitillo> arokux1: atm, I have cross-built a kernel for the cubie2 from 3.3.0-cb2 branch, but as we need more info about u-boot and spl, we need some time to start testing
<arokux1> pitillo, sorry, I know nothing about it. was thinking to recommend you to use ready available toolchains.
<mnemoc> pitillo: steev is a gentoo guy, he has probably experimented with all possible gcc optimizations possible
<mnemoc> s/possible/options/2
<arokux1> pitillo, I think you will get more info at #<distro>-arm channels, like debian arm, archlinux arm fedora arm etc.
<pitillo> arokux1: well, we have built hardfp toolchain from scratch, generic one based on vfp, then we build the generic release to deploy to devices with vfp compat support and there we rebuild optimized ports for the devices
<arokux1> pitillo, I see.
<pitillo> mnemoc: yeah, I know about him... another machine with lot of knowledge (like lot of people here)
<arokux1> pitillo, are you working on some distro, or custom rootfs?
<jinzo> note for gentoo it's #gentoo-embedded
<Turl> hno: I thought they were upgraded to A20 before producing any
<mnemoc> the one with totally messed up size had A10 iirc
<pitillo> arokux1: we are working on crux-arm, currently the optimized release for the cubieboard is ready ("-O2 -pipe -mfloat-abi=hard -mfpu=neon -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mtune=cortex-a8")

<steev> pitillo: the person to talk to about optimizations is actually ssvb, but i discussed something similar with him recently, and apparently optimizing for cortex-a7 doesn't give better performance when compared to cortex-a8 or cortex-a9 - the only way you'll know for sure though is to run through it yourself, as a newer toolchain may be released now
<pitillo> thank you steev. We'll see it then and we'll try to get informed about the new toolchain and optimizations. If we go ahead building uboot/spl for the cubieboard2, we'll probably try directly with cpu=cortex-a7 and fpu=neon-vfpv4 (for the cubieboard all is running pretty nice currently with those ones)
<steev> i don't have a cubieboard2 (yet)
