I'm looking for owners of A23- and A33-based devices to confirm that reading the SID key directly from SoC is supported. This can be checked easily by issuing the command "md.l 0x01c23800 4" in U-Boot - see http://linux-sunxi.org/SID_Register_Guide
<NiteHawk>
ssvb: i would also tend to add a "Reviewed-by:" and commit your readl/writel extension as a separate commit indepent of the rest of the patch series. it doesn't depend on the other changes and looks useful on its own?
<NiteHawk>
..independent

KotCzarny: "i wouldnt bet on webgl, on allwinner sbc, no support driver wise" - what is your problem exactly?
<ssvb>
the mali drivers are not pretty, but they work
<KotCzarny>
ssvb: do they work with mainline too?
<KotCzarny>
what about h3 ?
<ssvb>
what about h3?
<ssvb>
as for the mainline support, you are joking, right?
<ssvb>
so if your Firefox is linked against libGL.so instead of libGLESv2.so, then it will of course not be able to use mali drivers without recompilation
<ssvb>
if your installed software comes from some popular Linux distribution, then you can expect that all of it is compiled against the desktopish OpenGL
<ssvb>
hence no acceleration magically becoming instantly available
<KotCzarny>
noted.
<ssvb>
but you can install mali drivers and then compile some OpenGL ES application yourself
<KotCzarny>
now, do you know which version rXpY it is?
<KotCzarny>
(opi pc)
p1u3sch1 has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<ssvb>
there is a tool, which can detect this version
<KotCzarny>
maybe i should just grab the image and extract things
<KotCzarny>
or just do plain reinstall with home dir move
<KotCzarny>
btw. 2d is just fbturbo or something new accel wise?
<ssvb>
you don't need mali for 2d

KotCzarny: To be honest I don't know, I run my devices most of the times headless. If you're interested read through the whole issue: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/issues/201
<tkaiser>
And if you want to choose a new Armbian image better use one from here since the last official is rather outdated (over 10 days old): http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/4U4tkD/
<KotCzarny>
tkaiser: i use opipc as a desktop replacement
<KotCzarny>
with proper firefox config it's workable
<KotCzarny>
also, love the comment, 'outdated (10 days old)'
<KotCzarny>
:)
<tkaiser>
KotCzarny: I use a MacBook running OS X as desktop replacement. :P
<tkaiser>
ssvb: Yes, that would really be nice to be able to encourage a few more users to participate in hardware reliability testing
<ssvb>
tkaiser: I just need to find time for that
<ssvb>
finding a sponsor willing to pay for this work would be of course the best :-)
<tkaiser>
Did you asked TL Lim?

I would believe he and the other Pine folks might get the whole realibility idea at the moment (faulty SD cards, USB cables and chargers and their boards being blamed for all of this)
<ssvb>
I'm not sure if they have any budget allocated on developing/improving software
willmore has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser>
But they should ;)
<tkaiser>
Since this stuff we're talking now will be attributed to hardware instead (thermal/throttling settings and killed CPU cores --> bad Phoronix scores for the hardware)
<KotCzarny>
marketing is more importanter ;)
<tkaiser>
montjoie: Is this intentional: 'You don't have permission to access /ethernet/0001-ethernet-add-sun8i-emac-driver.patch on this server.'? :)
<montjoie>
no
<montjoie>
solved
<ssvb>
tkaiser: right now pine64 can just easily use linpack as a test, that's a quick and dirty solution
<tkaiser>
montjoie: Thx! :)
<ssvb>
tkaiser: and yes, marketing is important, it makes more sense sponsoring something that you can be bragging about in a press release :-)
avph has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<tkaiser>
ssvb: But as far as I understand we would need a bunch of users willing to test? And building Linpack isn't that straightforward for novices
<ssvb>
tkaiser: that would mean some well known software project, and not some in-house tool
<tkaiser>
ssvb: OpenHAB? ;)
avph has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb>
tkaiser: linpack can be used on a sample set of a few boards, and then voltage dispersion could be estimated
<ssvb>
tkaiser: so a quick and dirty solution still exists
<tkaiser>
And that's all. IMO adopting the developed settings for Android should help also. But until now they didn't show any interest in these issues...

<klarrt>
does anyone have a link for readup on the current status of allwinner a3?
<KotCzarny>
a3?
<klarrt>
h3
<KotCzarny>
mainline or legacy?
<klarrt>
as used on orange pi one for example
<klarrt>
i'm reading as much as i can, but information seems to be scattered around several forums, github pages, and mailing lists
<jelle>
klarrt: so what are you looking for?
<klarrt>
well, I got the orange pi one board, and been using the armbian image for it. It works, but it seems it's not the most up to date kernel
<KotCzarny>
klarrt, use tkaiser's builds
<jelle>
klarrt: well it isn't really mainlined either
<klarrt>
according to tkaiser and the forum.armbian.com, but progress are being made by the sunxi community if i've understood things correctly
willmore has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser>
klarrt: the current Armbian images rely on the old outdated Allwinner 3.4.39 kernel patched up to 3.4.110
<tkaiser>
You get either 3.4.39 or 3.4.110 or 4.4/4.5 (where still some/most stuff is missing)
<klarrt>
ok thanks tkaiser
<klarrt>
is there some way to support you in your work? I'm thinking about going for either raspberry pi or orange pi for business stuff
<klarrt>
raspberry seems more supported, but i like the one better
<tkaiser>
klarrt: The real work is done by the guys here that code. Armbian just tries to package stuff and might make testing more easy since development results might become useable by more users. But if you want to contribute to development here is the better place
<klarrt>
thanks for the info tkaiser

hi. i've created my sd card from https://github.com/longsleep/build-pine64-image/tree/master/simpleimage ; very easy.I've extended the partition p2 to 1G, very easy. I've untar my rootfs on p2. very easy. When i boot, it starts, open a console, but never goes on my p2/sbin/init; i've followed the instuction, but probably did something wrong. Any tip ?
<susan33>
i guess the initrd test partition and /sbin/init file. i've not managed to mount the initrd, (as far as i remember it contains the boot script)
avph has joined #linux-sunxi
<susan33>
the partition 1 contains : ./pine64/Image ./pine64/sun50i-a64-pine64-plus.dtb ./initrd.img ./uEnv.txt
<susan33>
the partition 2 contains among others, /sbin/init
<susan33>
i read : "The initrd will automatically try to boot this rootfs if it finds an executable /sbin/init inside the second partition."
<susan33>
but my ununderstanding i sthat if i've made a bad /sbin/init (which is possible), i guess that the kernel would panic and a message would be displayed.
<KotCzarny>
if you have initrd your real rootfs is not pivoted to
<KotCzarny>
unless whole initrd is bad
<susan33>
oh, so, i remove this file ?
<KotCzarny>
if you are sure your system would boot successfully, you can try
<KotCzarny>
but i guess editing uenv.txt should be enough
<susan33>
after removing the file, i can see the login of my system ;-) nice.
<susan33>
(unfortunally, it seems something went wrong, but it means things start to work !!!! thanks)
<susan33>
KotCzarny, is there documentation about uenv.txt ?
<KotCzarny>
uenv.txt is for old uboot

and the allwinner's vpu has been already reverse engineered

heh, a lot of people are trying to install/configure the mali drivers only to find out that they get a lovely spinning horse instead of decent youtube playback in their browsers
<ssvb>
and some of them end up making a conclusion that the drivers are just "bad" and somebody has to supply them with "better" mali drivers
<steev>
yeah, i remember from my days at genesi
