Hi, everyone! I use Allwinner A31 and I want to connect the camera to the CSI and I need the pixel clock (PCLK) up to 96MHz, please tell me whether the processor supports pixel clock = 96MHz. The documentation does not say anything about it, so I decided to ask here. Thank you.

hey, when setting up one of the allwinners boards as a server, is there any recommended kernel config I can use for the sunxi mainline kernel compilation?
<KotCzarny>
use armbian
<somedude23>
pros/cons?
<KotCzarny>
stable/tested/actively supported
<KotCzarny>
cons, has systemd
<somedude23>
personally I wanted to go for Arch ARM
<KotCzarny>
but you can use armbian's build system to create uboot/kernel only
peepsalot has joined #linux-sunxi
<somedude23>
so you're suggesting I take their kconfig and use that as a staging point?
<KotCzarny>
no, use their build script to grab/patch kernel
<somedude23>
patch?
<KotCzarny>
unless your board is fully supported by mainline, then you can go wild
<tkaiser>
somedude23: Which board/SoC?
<somedude23>
tkaiser: pcduino3 nano
<somedude23>
has SATA port ^^
<KotCzarny>
a20 then?
<somedude23>
yes
<tkaiser>
somedude23: With slow sequential write speeds. But that's a different story. With A20 it's pretty straightforward
<KotCzarny>
you can go wild with mainline
<KotCzarny>
no need to rely on bsp or any allwinner thing
<somedude23>
tkaiser: hmm, do you have any recommendations for a particular board then? I mean with a SATA port for server use?
<KotCzarny>
marvel soc based
<KotCzarny>
;)
<somedude23>
no freescale?
<KotCzarny>
unless you dont require high throughput, then you can use allwinner
<somedude23>
personally I just need something for a torrent seedbox, and to watch movies off of it. I think I chose pcduino3 because it also has gigabit.
<somedude23>
interesting, so the allwinner boards do not handle transparent encryption very well... I was gonna use full disk encryption on my NAS.

Well, i received one of the Pine64 board where users claim 1000M LAN does not work, plugged in my network it works just fine 300Mbit/s iperf first try. So what we always assumed is true - boards work with 1000M and the reason people have problems with 1000M is equipment related and not the board itself.

really curious to know if emac could do more than 300Mb, perhaps with NAPI

yes

montjoie: well Pine64 GMAC does 680MBit/sec sending with BSP Kernel
<longsleep>
montjoie: without any tweaks, just default settings
<montjoie>
BSP use NAPI, so NAPI seems necessary

longsleep: what I have found a lot recently is cheaper chineese cat5e will say its good for gigabit but you plug it in and it can only negotiate 100mbit and a lot of people don't know the cable can have this effect. I remember I bought a bunch of cheap wireless cameras and they all came with cables, pretty nice looking ones too, figured would stick it off to the side and use it for something... come to find they can only sustain 100mbit..
<TheLinuxBug>
longsleep: maybe advise to check with a different cable
<GeneralStupid>
TheLinuxBug: i would love if i could transfer with 50Mbit/s :D
<KotCzarny>
oh, wow, i've just triggered bluescreen in win7 just by doing execlp()
<TheLinuxBug>
(facepalm)
<TheLinuxBug>
nashpa: ahh did not know that, thanks for the info.
<longsleep>
TheLinuxBug: yeah, i did all that already - some people do seem to have only one cable or only crappy ones
<longsleep>
TheLinuxBug: i think its related to the switch somehow. The pine64 seems to be picky about those but all of those switches i have tried myself work just fine :)

I tend to find any cat5e cable you get for free now adays unless its with a motorola device or in some cases expensive routers if they 'throw' in a cable its usuaully a cheaper 100mbit rated cable and not good cat6e
tkaiser has joined #linux-sunxi

longsleep: I did see one time an issue on a board I had with it not liking autoneg and I had to force it, but if you don't have a cable that will do it it will refuse or perform poorly
Amit_t_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<longsleep>
TheLinuxBug: yes thats what people doing, disable auto and set to 100FD and they have decent speeds for 100M, but as soon as for 1000M they seem to get only a coulpe of kbps. Thats the reports for the presumed non working board i received from one guy and it works just fine with almost 700Mbps with my equipment.
<TheLinuxBug>
yep sounds like cable or super cheap switch ;p
tkaiser has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]

TheLinuxBug: i have super cheap switches too works just fine and i have super cheap cables as well - works just fine
<KotCzarny>
got EMI ?
<longsleep>
TheLinuxBug: btw, there also is a guy how has 4 Pine64 of which 2 do not work, claiming to use the same switch/cable
<longsleep>
TheLinuxBug: that puzzles me a bit and got me to offer looking at one which does not work in the first place - didnt help at the one i received just works :)
