MoeIcenowy: EMAC on Pine64> where do you have problems? You need montjoie's latest driver, the DT bits from a64-v5 and need to turn on DC1SW in the PMIC
<apritzel>
all of which is covered by my latest code drop: ATF takes care of the PMIC (a proper version is contained in the firmware image) and a64-v5 contains the EMAC driver and DT bits

anybody have an orangepi plus 2e yet?
<jmcneill>
i'm trying to figure out the magic to turn on the phy
<TheLinuxBug>
yes
<TheLinuxBug>
but I don't know that answer to your question
<TheLinuxBug>
its supported by Armbian so thats what I run for linux on it
<TheLinuxBug>
KotCzarny or tkaiser when when they are here may better be able to answer your question
<jmcneill>
I may have found something..
<jmcneill>
arg no luck
<jmcneill>
the FreeBSD driver works on a83t and a64 with external rgmii phy and h3 with internal phy, this is the first i've tried h3 with external phy
<jmcneill>
symptom is the controller doesn't clear soft reset state, which on the others typically meant the phy wasn't powered
<jmcneill>
working now
<jmcneill>
staring at the wrong datasheet and missed PHY_SELECT bit in H3 EMAC_CLK_REG

<nove>
read not only this line, but also the following lines

<nove>
that only keep confirming that allwinner only does things when pressured with bad publicity, this https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi/commit/6964d467510849e3e262518cb87bff7ef92e01f5 change was made by direct result of a private email exchange between me and the eoma people, when after been asked for security problems example, that piece of source-code removed was the example that i gave them.
<nove>
(not in this case) in general this is a problem in this linux-sunxi community, there is too many private exchanges in were all the kind words are wasted with no results, and then there is only left the "laundry"(as this rant) to do in public, and then the assholes are called by not being constructive
<nove>
it took 3 to 4 days, from what i wrote and the change to happen
<nove>
i really, don't understand this all winner situation, were the only from of contact with allwinner is by the mean of intermediaries that don't have the full technical knowledge to transmit what why and how the issues can be resolved
<nove>
is not the last of security flaws, this driver allows userspace to map the hardware video engine registers, and with this all lower 256MiB can be read or written into
<nove>
but who cares, security issues is only to be resolved when made public bring bad publicity, and everyones is happy with the vendor's software and its blobs, to the point of keep quietly to ignoring the gpl violations
<nove>
the only bad thing, is that "gpl violations" don't bring "bad publicity"
<nove>
what "gpl violations" brings is only fracturing community, from the people that care versus the people that don't care
<nove>
because if there were a "community", we all already would have a mainline driver for this video engine(vpu), and (i have the audacity to say) also a mainline lima driver for Mali gpu
<nove>
(that i am sure)
<nove>
in other news, it looks that someone make working h264 encoding in H3, good job for them
gianMOD has joined #linux-sunxi
<nove>
(i wonder what was the difficulty, maybe the real problem was bigger "laziness" that the lazy me)
<nove>
if someone wants to help, by testing that and confirm that is working, the colorful table at the cedrus wiki page can then be updated

mosterta has joined #linux-sunxi
<nove>
(i can not do, because the gpl violations makes H3/A64 hardware to be too expensive, and by so i don't own any)

<|Jeroen|>
isn't that allwinners problem?
<fire219>
there was a decent effort to get a decent mali drive for A64 (which i assume would also be applicable to H3)
<fire219>
AW went along for a bit but eventually gave it the middle finger
<nove>
is because of the license issues, that kms/drm driver that allwinner wrote can only be use by violating gpl
