<slapin>
mripard: disableing cpufreq and cpuidle made my board work fine, otherwise hard hang during boot, I use latest mainline u-boot
<slapin>
mripard: otherwise USB and video work fine (I use simplefb, don't know how to enable drm-based video to test)
<mripard>
there's definitely a bug then
<mripard>
cpuidle shouldn't change anything
<mripard>
it's not enabled and has never been
<mripard>
but cpufreq works fine on other boards
<mripard>
so my guess would be a weird interaction between u-boot and linux
<camh>
gearbest just cancelled my orange pi pc order. knew the price was too good to be true
<slapin>
mripard: probably cpufreq values are not correct then, as I understand, either kernel or u-boot should control frequencies, not both, otherwise it will be messed each time one of these changes...
<KotCzarny>
camh: wtf.
<slapin>
mripard: but I really don't know the correct values
<KotCzarny>
mine is still in 'processing' status
<KotCzarny>
camh: how many did you order?
<camh>
KotCzarny: I placed the order right after the link was posted here, for 4 units. I just got a refund notice from paypal
<mripard>
slapin: u-boot doesn't change it
<mripard>
u-boot doesn't exist anymore when the kernel boots
<KotCzarny>
camh: that shit should go onto cnx news, not good practice to make a publicity stunt then just cancel
<mripard>
but my guess is that u-boot fails to setup the CPU frequency and voltage properly
<mripard>
the kernel then boots
<mripard>
tries to change the frequency back to something it knows
<KotCzarny>
and mine is paid by debit card, so it would be harder to cancel for them, he he
<mripard>
and fails for some reason, maybe undervolting

KotCzarny: I'll wait to see if I get any notification from gearbest and see what they say. But the cnx comments seemed to suggest gearbest flash sales were mostly scams
<slapin>
camh: orangepi plus2 works fine here, was delivered quickly, but is really a good air heater (needs some cooling)
<mripard>
slapin: the default clock frequency out of reset is 384MHz
<mripard>
so yeah, no one's changing that.
<camh>
slapin: I already have 4 orange pi plus and 4 orange pi pc. when I saw that price, I jumped at 4 more.
<KotCzarny>
slapin: you should use tkaiser's/armbian's dvfs settings (assuming you arent fixed vendor image yet)

mripard: well, if I disable cpufreq, it boots fine and everything supported works, so I doubt u-boot does something wrong, probably kernel assumes something different, but why everything but cpufreq works?
<mripard>
well, "if I disable X, it works" means that it doesn't work
<slapin>
KotCzarny: well, vendor image is android, I have 2 boards and want to use OpenEmbedded on second one, so I wonder where I can get all the goodies... :)
<mripard>
KotCzarny: the dvfs settings don't change, or if it does, they really should send patches upstream
<slapin>
mripard: well, I don't have any Idea, all I know is that cpufreq on olinuxino-a13 doesn't work, but I don't know of possible reason
<KotCzarny>
mripard: thing is, h3 doesnt have power management in mainline yet (i think that's how its called)
<KotCzarny>
so most people run it from 3.4 kernels
<slapin>
KotCzarny: yep, because even 3.10 doesn't work well for h3
<slapin>
and h3 is so hot beast it is insane
<KotCzarny>
nope, it itsnt with the right settings
<KotCzarny>
mine is ~46C in idle and ~60-75 in load
<slapin>
btw, h3 + GNU/Linux + video encoding/decoding - is it possible?
<KotCzarny>
yes
<KotCzarny>
i think someone recently fixed cedrus h264 encoder for h3
<mripard>
slapin: I'm not sure the "just let it rot" is a good solution either

it works on kernelci, so there's more to it than just "it doesn't work"

just realized there's no "

just realized there's no "standard" for ethernet port LEDs

<slapin>
mripard: if I can help I could do some tests and experiments, if that can help somebody
<mripard>
kernelci seems to be using 2015.07 just fine
<mripard>
you can start using that u-boot
<mripard>
and then if it works, the release in between
<slapin>
mripard: as I understand, R8 and A13 are different processors, and chip is different board
<mripard>
no, they're not
<slapin>
mripard: so you suggest to try 2015.07 u-boot from 1 year old, is it right?
<slapin>
mripard: I currently use 2616.06
OverCR has quit [Quit: Leaving.]

<wens>
and if it does, then do a bisect between 2015.07 and 2016.06

do anybody knows of good android image for orangepi plus2 and for tips installing up-to-date Debian testing on orangepi plus2?
<slapin>
KotCzarny: also, how can I fix vendor-installed android image? I know I can fix vendor debian image, but that one is quite old...

camh: If nothing else they should honor the order for the $9.23 they actually ran in an e-mail add they sent to customers yesterday. I think they were mad the link was released before they could put it in their e-mails, because when that e-mail hit my box from gearbest though the ad says $9.23 it was already at $19.99 again.
<TheLinuxBug>
camh: you have a link to that cns thread?
<TheLinuxBug>
cnx*
<KotCzarny>
TheLinuxBug: 9.23? 8.54 was the price
<TheLinuxBug>
I understand but they ran an actualy e-mail add where they advertised it for $9.23
<KotCzarny>
ahum
<KotCzarny>
funny that there wasnt that price anywhere
<KotCzarny>
and i bet they just failed to set the campaign properly
<TheLinuxBug>
well point is if they seriously canceled on you I would use that ad ans post it on twitter and ask them wtf they would renig their deals
