cymen: just ask, answers will come (if any).
<wens>
personally i would just pick an existing one in simple-panel that works

I'm trying to get a cubietruck running with one of the images from armbian.com. It boots but halfway through boot it switches to a graphics mode that none of my monitors like. Can I prevent that somehow?
<plaes>
you need to fix modify the script.bin
<plaes>
you're using 3.4, right?
<KotCzarny>
or if it's a10/a20 ssh into the box and use a10disp tool

plaes: I've tried both 3.4 and 4.6. Basically I ended up trying almost every version they have.
<cYmen>
How do I edit the script.bin? What do I do?
<cYmen>
KotCzarny: But that says I need to edit the fex file, I thought that was for legacy kernels...?
<Net147>
mripard: ideally want a fbdev version that doesn't depend on wayland and is known to be compatible with Mali-400

Me? Of course I did where else would I have read about fex?
<cYmen>
Well, I found that binary in /boot/dtb
<Net147>
mripard: have you pushed the drm_panel patch yet?
mzki has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<mripard>
I think I did
<cYmen>
KotCzarny: I assume that it is already using that file because this is an armbian image specifically for the cubietruck but a) how do I check or make it use it? b) how do I change it?
<Net147>
mripard: I haven't seen it anywhere yet
<KotCzarny>
cYmen: uboot loads kernel and dtb
<KotCzarny>
and dtb gets built with kernel usually
<KotCzarny>
so, see boot.cmd if and where it loads
<cYmen>
It evaluates ftdfile but that's not defined in there...
<cYmen>
but there is a screen mode definition that might help with my problem...

mripard: let me know if you need any help testing HDMI on A20, I can test HDMI streams for bit-accurate 24-bit color output, with non-standard resolution and verifying HDMI signal info like pixel clock, horizontal/vertical frequency/polarity, resolution, etc.

in sunxi 3.4 kernel at least, the default HDMI color range is 16-255 instead of 0-255 as I discovered and documented here: http://linux-sunxi.org/Fex_Guide#.5Bdisp_init.5D
<ganbold>
montjoie: do you have test numbers for RNG for A10/A20?
<mripard>
Net147: what hardware do you have to test that?
<nikre>
jernej, should i even attempt to compile kernel with realtime components? is it doable on h3?
<plaes>
Net147: ok, found that I didn't even include simple panels
<jernej>
nikre: You can, but I really don't know what result you will get
<GeneralStupid>
jernej: nice :D
<jernej>
nikre: to be honest, I never used realtime features
<nikre>
jernej, is the cedrus driver needed to completely overcome the channel switch problems?
<nikre>
on tvheadend
IgorPec has joined #linux-sunxi
<nikre>
or is it related to how tvheadend interacts with the driver?
<GeneralStupid>
channel switch problem?
<jernej>
first, I never used tvheadend because I don't have any DVB dongle
<GeneralStupid>
its not a problem with cedrus
<GeneralStupid>
i used a usb dvb-t dongle
<jernej>
but some reports showed that in some cases Kodi crashes due to inproper CedarX buffer handling
<jernej>
it is not directly connected to tvheadend
<jernej>
you may use other plugins and you will get same issue
<GeneralStupid>
no absolutely not. I used mpv and tvheadend without kodi
<nikre>
btw kodi crashed on ubuntu more than it did in your distribution :)
<nikre>
i mean ubuntu on x86_64
<GeneralStupid>
i think kodi is a real nice peace of software... but i dont get why they use their own player
<jernej>
GeneralStupid: mpv uses Cedrus and my OpenELEC fork uses CedarX - two completely different pieces of code, first open source and second Allwinner binary blob
<GeneralStupid>
jernej: yes. what i wanted to say is: if kodi would be able to work with any player (e.g. just calling mpv with a url) it would be easier for everyone of us :D
<jernej>
GeneralStupid: To increase confusion, Kodi in other distributions uses external player - mpv, which uses Cedrus and IMO shouldn't have channel switch problems
<jernej>
GeneralStupid: You can do that, but you lose functionality
<GeneralStupid>
i wrote a little script to display channel names and i was able to switch with IR Remote. It was fine for me
<nikre>
is it on orange pi GeneralStupid ?
<GeneralStupid>
jernej: but for me its a (wrong) design decission in kodi
<GeneralStupid>
nikre: orange pi pc
<GeneralStupid>
but i bought a TV and now i want to use the remote control of my television with hdmi cec...
<nikre>
it worked on my panasonic tv
<jernej>
Just to warn you - HDMI CEC on OPi is hit or miss
<jernej>
for some works flawlessly, for others basically doesn't work at all
