<Mo> Hi, is this the place to ask about UASP? I read my ASM1051 is blacklisted for UAS, could that change in future? Is is capable of UAS in general?
<KotCzarny> that means controller is probably reusing ids and no way for the driver to check
<KotCzarny> and probably there is a module param to force enable it (just guessing)
<beeble> if it's blacklisted there is a reason
<KotCzarny> seems that only asm1153 is worth getting from them. still jms578 works beautifully
<Mo> Purchasing a 2,5" 2TB no manufacture was describing the used chipset or UASP feature. Same problem on many hardware for Linux. Of course I would have better done some research about different devices appropriate for Linux before.
<KotCzarny> did you buy no-sata drive? ugh?
<KotCzarny> stop supporting those abominations
<Mo> KotCzarny: That USB drive has an SATA internally.
<KotCzarny> then at least you can workaround. i hate those without sata connector inside
yann|work has joined #linux-sunxi
<Mo> KotCzarny: What else, you mean the older PATA? I've never seen USB3 with PATA.
<KotCzarny> for an example
<KotCzarny> and while some might have sata testpoints on the logic board, it's wrong

<Mo> KotCzarny: Good to know, that "Mypassport" was also on the wish list.
<Mo> KotCzarny: You said " then at least you can workaround. " What did you mean? What can I do?
<KotCzarny> take the drive out and put in enclosure with uasp capable chip?
<KotCzarny> but if it doesnt have sata port inside, just return it
<KotCzarny> not worth the trouble
<Mo> New enclosure is not much cheaper than the complete. This inclosure is also protected for falling on the floor etc.. too bad, I better find out if that ASM1051 has any chance to get supported later.
<KotCzarny> ditch that asm1051 crap
<KotCzarny> unless you are happy with usbmassstorage mode
<Mo> How can I see which of all those Transcend devices have a better chipset?
<KotCzarny> google.
<KotCzarny> or asking the seller
<KotCzarny> or buing in local store after asking if you can return it without troubles
<KotCzarny> or get a laptop and go to store
<KotCzarny> find out list of preferred chipsets first
<KotCzarny> s/preferred/supported, working and stable/
<Mo> KotCzarny: Ok for instance the ASM1053 is supported. I can't find products with 2,5" with that chipset, only some "unknown" StarTech. Nothing from the valuable manufacturers. The https://linux-sunxi.org should better maintain a table with end products as well, not only the 6 supported chipsets.
<Mo> And the ASM1051 was said to be supporting UASP at least with the Windows drivers.
<KotCzarny> i would be afraid of asm1053, it's also in quirks
<Mo> How can I force UAS just for making sure it is not a misdetected ASM1053 ?
<Mo> KotCzarny: Which one is preferred?
<KotCzarny> * ASM1053 - with working uas support, but problems with large xfers
<Mo> Anyway that UAS doesn't seem to be well supported even today.
<KotCzarny> no apk?
<KotCzarny> erm. wrong chan
<Mo> OK: ASMedia ASM1053-s Blacklisted: ASMedia ASM1053 (might work but it's impossible to differentiate between ASM1051 and ASM1053 when connected over USB2.0[2])
<KotCzarny> just google for the chipsets and see what products would show up
<KotCzarny> not easy, but doable

<sr-digitronic> Hi, has somebody tried to load uImage, script.bin and initramfs.img via boot.axf from NAND into RAM on an A20 before?
<sr-digitronic> I succeed with uImage (3.9 MiB) and script.bin, but initramfs.img (1.7 MiB) fails.
<sr-digitronic> I have no idea what could’ve gone wrong with the initramfs file, wBoot_fopen returns only 0 when it fails.
<sr-digitronic> My aim is to get mainline U-Boot into NAND.
<sr-digitronic> My boot.axf and boot1 are from cubieboard`s a20-boot repo, my board is a modified OLinuXino-Micro.

<Mo> KotCzarny: Hi, I was told by the manufacturer that my model and serialnumber has the ASM1153 for sure and should be supported by UASP. It should be a wrong detection for ASM1051.
<KotCzarny> or the chip itself is new revision
<Mo> Where should I file a bugreport? Or can I analyse that myself?
<KotCzarny> probably mainline kernel uasp maintainer
<Mo> I found linux-sunxi.org as the first source for this UASP project.
<KotCzarny> nope. uasp is linux kernel thing
<beeble> if i would be the driver maintainer i would ask you to read the model number on the chip itself
<Mo> beeble: So open the device?
<beeble> if it's possible
<beeble> best way to confirm it
<beeble> and if the package really says asm1153 a lsusb -v of the vid:pid will also help
<Mo> beeble: You mean Bus 004 Device 003: ID 174c:5106 ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051 SATA 3Gb/s bridge ?
<Mo> idProduct 0x5106 ASM1051 SATA 3Gb/s bridge

<willmore> The maintainer will say 'no' as you can't tell the 1051 from the 1053 when hooked up over USB2.
<KotCzarny> but he claims he has 1153
<beeble> willmore: the devices are using the same vid:pid combination. so the lsusb product string is not reliable
dave0x6d has joined #linux-sunxi
<beeble> willmore: sorry i should read your sentence complete before answering :)
<willmore> beeble, no worries. Using the same ID is exactly the problem. Well done Asmedia!
<beeble> willmore: maxpower should be different
<willmore> beeble, Wonder if they could add a quirk to use that to differientate them.
diego_r has joined #linux-sunxi
<beeble> willmore: it does try to do that already
<Mo> beeble, willmore, KotCzarny: Good hint to open it. On the microscope, it is really a ASM1153 and wrong detected.
<Mo> Going to file a bug report.
<willmore> beeble, wonder why it fails, then?
<beeble> willmore: thats the question :)
<KotCzarny> willmore, maybe new revision, with new quirks ;)
<willmore> And now I'm up to speed.
<willmore> KotCzarny, good point.

<KotCzarny> hmm, maybe you should try 4.13-rc ?
<Mo> Not released in my distro..
<KotCzarny> compiling kernel is required knowledge for a linux user
<beeble> so should be in everything since 3.19
<KotCzarny> might be something new
<KotCzarny> mo, can you pastebin lsusb -v ?
<beeble> it's in the ticket
<beeble> and it should not blacklist it as maxpower is zero
<KotCzarny> ahm, didnt read it whole yet
<KotCzarny> then might be simply counterfeit chip
<beeble> Mo: what kernel version are you running?
<KotCzarny> ie. as1051/3 with fake markings
<KotCzarny> but hmm. weird
<beeble> Mo: sorry, found it in the ticket
<KotCzarny> it should trigger on maxpower==0
<beeble> Mo: has your kernel uas enabled? :)
SP7RT has joined #linux-sunxi

<KotCzarny> he got the 'blacklisting uas' message
<KotCzarny> did he?
<Mo> KotCzarny: No.
<Mo> Sry, have to leave. Just drop me an email.
<Mo> I'm here tomorrow.
<KotCzarny> hmm
<KotCzarny> can you paste lsusb -t ?
