<skiboy> Is anybody active on the channel at this time of day?
<smaeul> depends on the day?
<skiboy> I had some questions about modifications to the wiki
<smaeul> sorry, I don't know the answers
<skiboy> I'll just go ahead and post it and see if anyone replies
<skiboy> Xunlong made 2 new boards, the Orange Pi Zero H5, and the Orange Pi Zero2 H5. both appear to use the H5 as a drop-in replacement SoC. Do these boards deserve their own pages, or can they be listed as variations of existing boards?
<skiboy> Also, how do we determine if there are any GPL violations in the software that Allwinner has released for the H5?
<skiboy> I'm also kind of wondering why Allwinner doesn't just contribute to the kernel like a normal company does when they release a new SoC
<skiboy> Oh, and the H5 page is missing a release date, even though it
<skiboy> 's already been released. Do we know the month it came out?
taoyuan has joined #linux-sunxi
<skiboy> Actually these Xunlong guys seem to be cranking out boards faster than we can document them
<skiboy> Not really surprising considering the amount of available documentation on the SoCs
<MoeIcenowy> I think there's still GPL violations for H5.
<skiboy> How can it be determined?
<MoeIcenowy> although I think AW is trying to solve them
<MoeIcenowy> you can find for files prefixed "lib" and without suffix in the lichee SDK
<MoeIcenowy> and then use file command to check them
<MoeIcenowy> if it's "ELF xx-bit LSB relocatable" or "current ar archive"
<MoeIcenowy> you can assume it's a blob
<skiboy> Is this the same toolchain/SDK that is on the Orange Pi site?
<skiboy> Which just seems to contain binary files. Looks like it has something to do with uboot
<skiboy> Not sure what these are used for

<oliv3r> Hey all, I'm curious. the A20 datasheet metions 2 HDMI interrupts, 0 at 90 (58) and 1 at 118 (86). Since we only have 1 hdmi controller, what is the second interrupt for? My guess would be the DDC controller?

<skiboy> Why are all of Allwinner's datasheets marked confidential when they really aren't?
lkcl has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<KotCzarny> may be they are
<KotCzarny> :P
<skiboy> They kind of need them not to be if they ever want mainline support
<skiboy> seems like a disadvantage to them to not release the datasheet
aidin has joined #linux-sunxi
<skiboy> Just the fact that they left out RSA documentation on the H3 and H5 is giving kernel devs a hard time
<skiboy> also H6 hype
<KotCzarny> if they cared about being open they would cooperate with community more
<KotCzarny> apparently they dont need that part
<skiboy> Are they improving at all?
<KotCzarny> define 'improving'
<BenG83> I think they just don´t care about formal stuff that much
<skiboy> less GPL violations, mode info released?
<BenG83> if you google long enough you usually can find versions that dont have watermarks
<skiboy> maybe it's a cultural barrier
<skiboy> a lot of Chinese companies keep secrets pretty closely guarded
<skiboy> While more things are moving towards being open over here in the West

<Langoor> sooo.. I have an Inet k100c and im a little bit stuck getting anything to run on it
<Langoor> some random prebuilt OS images I tried (and flashed them on SD) appear to work a bit (mostly I see something appearing on the hdmi output, and it appears to boot, but just reboots after)
<skiboy> If there's one thing I've learned with messing about with ARM boards... It's usually the SD card
<oliv3r> plaes: i'll try to somehow generate an interrupt and check if that interrupt fires :)
<skiboy> It's why I don't like boards without built-in emmc
<skiboy> SD cards just fail on me too much. Really bottom of the barrel stuff when it comes to flash
yann-kaelig has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> skiboy: try industrial or single model cells?
<KotCzarny> *mode
<KotCzarny> ie. slc
<skiboy> I never really looked into it that much when getting an SD card. I'll have to now
<Langoor> anyone who can help with a20 tablets? :x
<plaes> help how?
<Langoor> getting something to work on it..
<Langoor> its a Inet k100c, I couldnt get the BSP to compile, my idea was to get a prebuilt image and put the tablet's bsp in it
<plaes> we don't really deal with BSP's here
<Langoor> hmm, maybe my idea was stupid, but I dont really know anything better
<Langoor> im rather noob at this :x
aidin has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Langoor> I did found a fex file for this device, but I dont know how to use it :x
<KotCzarny> have you seen the wiki?
<Langoor> yeah, im browsing it atm
<KotCzarny> good source of info
<KotCzarny> to know what boots what and what is needed to make things work
<BenG83> what image/sources are you trying to run on your tablet?
<Langoor> currently just flashed armbian legacy on the SD
<Langoor> using an external HDMI monitor, it does output the bootscreen
<Langoor> I found a guide how to build scrip.bin from a .fex, so i'll try that
<BenG83> sounds like a plan
<Langoor> Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, bananapi login
<Langoor> on the LVDS panel
<Langoor> its something :P
<plaes> hmm.. LVDS
<Langoor> the new script.bin got the lvds panel to work
<Langoor> and usb otg works so I can input using an external keyboard
Worf has joined #linux-sunxi
<skiboy> fex files aren't used on things like the H3 and H5, right? Because we have device trees now?
<Langoor> yes, fex is legacy
<Langoor> iirc
<skiboy> cool. That's one less thing that I have to worry about then.
<skiboy> Man, I'm learning so much just being on here and browsing and contributing to the wiki
<Langoor> WOW
<Langoor> it booted
<Langoor> im looking at a desktop on the lvds panel now :D
<skiboy> Like my mom always told me "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong f'n room."

<plaes> mripard: when can I send follow-up patches for a10/a20 ccu device trees?
<FergusL> Anyone knows how to check/fix drift for hardware rtc clock? I've got a gradually increasing drift of about 30/45 seconds

<KotCzarny> yes, adjtime keeps drift
<KotCzarny> needs tpo be callibrated forst ofc

<FergusL> KotCzarny calibrated how? date has to be set to the actual time first?
gumblex has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<FergusL> or you mean, for adjust to be correct it has to be set like every day? so that the drift calculation is correct
<plaes> no clue.. but some people have worked around the issue by drift calibration: http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,119054.0.html
<plaes> besides, cheap modules are probably lacking decoupling caps for power supply
<FergusL> thanks for the help and links!
<KotCzarny> FergusL: hwclock uses /etc/adjtime
<beeble> FergusL: if you know your rtc drift you can set in the adjtime file
<KotCzarny> man hwclock for lenghty explanation what and how
<beeble> and then setup a cronjob to correct your rtc accordingly with hwclock

<vagrantc> just got a pinebook-14, wondering if it will default to booting off of the microSD rather than the eMMC as shipped
* vagrantc still needs to put together an adapter to use the serial console via the headphone jack
<beeble> a64 bootorder is microsd, emmc, spi, otg
* vagrantc wonders if blind debugging is worth even trying
<vagrantc> sure, but i don't have u-boot on the microsd, was wondering if the u-boot will first check microsd
<beeble> nand somewhere inbetween, but don't know where at the moment
<vagrantc> i have no hope of using a patched u-boot till i have a serial console :)
