Hello everybody! I'm trying to run linux-sunxi-next kernel on Orange Pi Zero but I have only one CPU core available. Can somebody help me fix the issue?

anarsoul: where do you get bl31.bin from?
<vagrantc>
anarsoul: i tried using both u-boot SPL, and legacy method for pine64, and both ended up with lots of problems...
<vagrantc>
that's why i get after u-boot SPL loads...
<vagrantc>
hmmm... at least 3 commits behind
lemonzest has joined #linux-sunxi
IgorPec has joined #linux-sunxi
<smaeul>
vagrantc: that message is actually from u-boot SPL... looks like ATF wasn't actually loaded at the right place (0x44000)
<smaeul>
so it's trying to execute uninitialized memory instaed
<vagrantc>
oh fun
<vagrantc>
but that's useful
<vagrantc>
same bl31.bin should be usable on the pine64 and pinebook?
<smaeul>
yes
<smaeul>
same bl31.bin should work on any A64/H64/H5
<vagrantc>
hah. "WARNING: BL31 file bl31.bin NOT found, resulting binary is non-functional" in my build log.
<vagrantc>
well, that explains it succinctly
<smaeul>
yeah, you either need to put it in u-boot source root, or `make BL31=/path/to/bl31.bin`
<vagrantc>
BL31 is full path or relative path?
<smaeul>
full
<vagrantc>
and cant "export BL31= ... ; make " work?
<smaeul>
probably will work
<smaeul>
it's used by board/sunxi/mksunxi_fit_atf.sh
* vagrantc
will find out shortly
<KotCzarny>
vagrantc: best is to use full path
<smaeul>
so if you want the real explanation... that's the file to look in

<vagrantc>
really, need to just get arm-trusted-firmware packaged for debian ... and somehow merge the billion forks for various platforms
<vagrantc>
still getting CPU resets...
* vagrantc
will need to set this aside for another day
<vagrantc>
no warning in the build log, though ... so ... hrm.
<vagrantc>
same problem on both pine64 and pinebook
<vagrantc>
next will try a rebuild of ATF with the newest three commits ... maybe that will help
<vagrantc>
or... smaeul was saying it's not even finding ATF at all?
<smaeul>
synchronous abort (i.e. invalid instruction) at 0x44000 called from a function at 0x1xxxx 99.99% means ATF was not loaded into memory properly

Hello, I have a question, when I play a mp3 with sox all play just find, but when I change the tempo to 2.0 I get message: alsa underrun. With MPlayer the mp3 start to stutter when the speed is increased. I use the Allwinner A13 with Legacy Linux 3.4. What can this be?
<KotCzarny>
you've said it. legacy linux 3.4
<KotCzarny>
it just sucks
<pjwl>
the problems also occurs when using the mainline kernel..
<KotCzarny>
now that is more interesting
<pjwl>
i have use buildroot to build the mainline kernel and also the same problems occurs, so therefore I tested the legacy kernel
<KotCzarny>
maybe cpu is too slow?
<pjwl>
Allwinner A13 1GHz with 512MB ram..
<KotCzarny>
but it may be starved of interrupts
<KotCzarny>
did you try it headless?
<pjwl>
no that I did not.. but with busybox build by buildroot with nothing else using resource, you should think it must work fine
antony has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny>
another thing, you might try to play with preempt option in kernel
<pjwl>
thanks, I will look into that, because I don't now if that options or off at this moment
<KotCzarny>
i assume you've checked 'top' ?
<pjwl>
yes I did but nothing realy strange there, I also changed the buffer size of the alsa, but that did not made any difference
<KotCzarny>
using plain alsa or evilaudio?
<pjwl>
plain alsa
<KotCzarny>
i would try running headless (even without framebuffer and hdmi cable disconnected)
<pjwl>
I do not use any hdmi, it just straight from the headpones.. the allwinner A13 doesn't have any HDMI only standard LCD output and standard audio codec
<KotCzarny>
ah, right, a13, not a10
<pjwl>
When I use mplayer with scaletempo speed=tempo and speed set to 2.0 The audio stutter and you see a load of 58%
<KotCzarny>
another idea, instead of running it in terminal, login via ssh?
<KotCzarny>
or run mplayer with -quiet
<KotCzarny>
i mean --quiet
<KotCzarny>
should free few cpu cycles too
<pjwl>
I already did, makes no difference. When playing at normal speed or normal pitch no problem at all, when pitch or tempo(higher then 1.1) is changed audio starts to stutter. Same problem when using SOX.. both legacy kernel as mainline kernel..

Net147: finally i've been to see the DRM working on A20 SOM EVB starting from your setup, see https://paste.debian.net/988825/
<sunxi_fan>
it was a matter of taking out the "simplefb" setting from the launching u-boot..
<sunxi_fan>
something you told somewhere.. IIRC.. indeed some check has to be done, in the future, in that case..
pjwl has quit [Quit: Page closed]
<sunxi_fan>
BTW i have a "little hiccup" about systemd default setup on buildroot that "shutdown" the DHCP/eth0 configuration from uboot that prevent the "NFS rootfs" to stay alive after the "starting network manager"
<sunxi_fan>
..i'm wondering how one "debug" or learn about the intricacies of systemd, anyway.. :-)
<KotCzarny>
just uninstall it?
Hao has joined #linux-sunxi
<sunxi_fan>
curiously the serial console doesn't work too. maybe that service is suppose to start later..
<KotCzarny>
if software misbehaves, one searches for alternatives
<sunxi_fan>
we all know "progress is there..", anyway! ;-)
<KotCzarny>
and best part of linux is ability to cut out unneeded software
<sunxi_fan>
if Debian people say me so.. at least..
<wens>
drm should kick out simplefb
<sunxi_fan>
"should kick out" i suppose means "in the longer term".. currently i suppose there's some hiccup, at least in my experience. let me see the dualhead setup, and i'll come back debugging the simpleFb takeover.. i promise! :-)
<KotCzarny>
sunxi_fan: i think he meant that when drm initializes it disables simplefb
<sunxi_fan>
the same kernel with the same DTS, launched on a Uboot with simpleFb displaying on LCD, yesterday was bringing to a "NULL ptr exception", so some corner case is still rough..
<wens>
it does so properly on a31
<sunxi_fan>
lot's of different setup are possible, of course. i'm wondering if there's at least "one positive" case history where this takeover has worked out..
<wens>
systemd doesn't start a serial console by default unless you have console=ttySx... in your cmdline
<sunxi_fan>
anyway, now i'll move forward on two paths, from this point: on one hand i'll try the Mali/libMali.so setup to check how a Qt app react.. (with backend EGLFS..), performace/reliability wise..
<sunxi_fan>
on the other, i'd like to patch this kernel with the "dual pipeline" set, but i suppose the original patchset doesn't apply cleanly anymore..
<sunxi_fan>
wens: i do have a "console=ttyS0,115200" on kernel CL, but i suppose the NFS rootfs missing, is hanging everything..
Worf has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens>
well if rootfs is missing, you won't ever get a console prompt lol

i see on the dmesg lot's of debug msg when i connnect/disconnect the HDMI tv set.. but there's no "mirror image" on the tv..
<sunxi_fan>
i'd gladly try to apply in a local branch the "dual pipeline" patches; i'm feeling more confident now..
