<samueldr>
hi! with 4.20-rc4, mainline, on a pine a64-lts, booted using mainline u-boot 2018.09, using the generic distro configuration from u-boot, where it will then load the device tree provided from the kernel build (AFAIK). HDMI now works, but ethernet is mostly not working. It worked one time, one boot only, and since then I wasn't able to reproduce it working even from the same build
<samueldr>
in the dmesg output I have `dwmac-sun8i 1c30000.ethernet eth0: Could not attach to PHY` and `dwmac-sun8i 1c30000.ethernet eth0: stmmac_open: Cannot attach to PHY (error: -19)`, which MAY be coming from `mdio_bus stmmac-0: MDIO device at address 1 is missing.` as also reported previously https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/linux-sunxi/2018-10-04
<samueldr>
I see the kernel, and (yet unreleased?) u-boot now have a Pine A64 lts device tree; but they both are simply including the sopine one, I'm excluding that as a reason it would fail, but I'm happy to be proven wrong

<anarsoul>
samueldr: make sure that you're using dtb from linux
<samueldr>
anarsoul: any way to verify once booted?
<samueldr>
the extlinux.conf is configured to use the right FDTDIR, and I have verified that the .dtb file expected by u-boot is there
<samueldr>
(though now I'm thinking I should have logged the whole serial output to see the u-boot messages, which were unhelpfully cleared at boot)

well, i've spent the weekend trying to create a simple framebuffer that accepts low resolution input and outputs at 1080p on a sun7i, this it seems is surprisingly difficult, would love to chat with anyone who really understands the display engine

<catphish>
i'm trying to write some bare metal code to scale up a low resolution pixel buffer (perhaps 640x360) to 1920x1080 and output it to the HDMI port of an A20. i've got this working by combining the DEFE and DEBE, however i am struggling to understand the scaling algorithm, i got it working by copying the sun4i_frontend_vert_coef and sun4i_frontend_horz_coef constants from a linux driver, but i don't understand at all what these constants are
<catphish>
doing, is there any documentation of this scaling, or a better way to do this in hardware (i just want to multiply up the pixels)?
