<Joerg-Neo900>
wpwrak: https://neo900.org/git/eeshow/tree/README has instructions for satisfying dependencies ("prerequisites") but lacks the ".configure&make&sudo make install" instructions to actually build. Could you please add those?
<Joerg-Neo900>
now a Ubuntu(/mint) PPA for eeshow would be nice
<Joerg-Neo900>
suggested version number: 01-$gittag. We need the 0.1 (and ++) for package managers checking for version number to decide whether to update or not
<Joerg-Neo900>
no apt and no zypper/yum will know wich of 89437924c962 vs 40974636b7 is newer
<Joerg-Neo900>
the above 0.1-$gittag is "from the horse's mouth" of OpenSuse maintainers
* Joerg-Neo900
still waits for plinell showing up again and giving it a shot for eeshow and fped on OpenSuse
<Joerg-Neo900>
ooh, they also said: <plinnell> 0.1+git tag on each new update etc <plinnell> cannot understand the unwillingness to make a normal release
<enyc>
somebody (debacle@debian.org ?) apparentyl put it in debian in some form
<enyc>
if you get it _in_ debian and a maintaner thats good, debian will do/rede builds across somany architectures for you
<enyc>
might need updating, last (and only!!) change Sun, 06 Nov 2016
<Joerg-Neo900>
hmmm
<enyc>
kicad looks well looked after in debian
<enyc>
be worth sohembody who USES it asking them
<enyc>
ask existing maintiner if they will update, nad what they need to do to transition eeshow to 'unstable'(sid)
<enyc>
it might need some compile bug or copiright file sorting out etc.
<Joerg-Neo900>
I'm trying to solve this for OBS/Opensuse right now. I got no debian system
<enyc>
So, if you get debian maintainer to update the packge _in_ debian, you can then look atthe debian/control debian/changelog debian/rules files they will have created for you
<enyc>
and use them in the opensuse build system tooo, by looks of it
<enyc>
"However, there is an alternative way: Create (or reuse) a standard Debian source package using native Debian or Ubuntu tools. "
<enyc>
yes, so plesae politiely contaict maintaner (see http://packages.debian.org/eeshow ) -- tell them what changes in build-edps you are aware of / why pcakgae needs updating, ASK what needed to get it thorugh to unstable//testing debian
<enyc>
also be able to re-use that source package into opensuse debian build system
<Joerg-Neo900>
((and use them in the opensuse build system too)) yes, though a local build on your PC should suffice for that, AIUI
<Joerg-Neo900>
I won't do >>politiely contaict maintaner (see http://packages.debian.org/eeshow ) -- tell them what changes in build-edps you are aware of<< since I have no clue what that even *is*
<Joerg-Neo900>
my plan is to *maybe* achieve eeshow ->Opensuse leap 42.3 and then other sitros can copy from there, or at least check those details I have no clue about
<Joerg-Neo900>
distros*
<Joerg-Neo900>
how could I tell a debian maintainer about build-edps when I jave no clue about that?
<Joerg-Neo900>
they will send me back to square one with a polite "please build locally first, when that works you come back here with a pull request"
