At least since WordPress on Sandstorm uses static publishing, for actual display there should be no performance costs.

i've installed sandstorm locally on my desktop now, and though it still takes a few seconds to startup apps, it's not unusably slow after that

i'm looking at the chrome developer tools network waterfall diagram now, it seems to really be taking ages to download static assets (but that's not all of the problem, iirc the draw.io app never loaded at all for me from the server, whereas it works fine locally now)
