<anttipennanen> @john: @joyce @jed Sorry for late reply. Going to Davos with Paul Bragiel, Mark Turrell and of of my investors. Will concentrate on Refugee situation in EU and fintech solutions for them.

<anttipennanen> We're now working with government, couple of thousand refugees in FI now using our platform to receive funds from gov instead of cash. Next we start to pay salaries to them using our tech. There has been a lot of questions from refugees how their families could send money to them from Syria and Iraq. This is still a problem to be solved, government is semi positive about using some blockchain solution.

<john> @anttipennanen: Hi Andy, your startup look fantastic! I currently live & work in Turkey and I noticed myself the struggle Syrian refugees face with cross-border payments. HSBC have been accused of "shamelessly profiling" its customers by ethnicity after it closed bank accounts belonging to Syrian refugees. Many other financial institutions have also been accused of discriminating against Muslim clients. This is ad

are already in a difficult situation... I also really like your concept of "Circle of Trust". I can easily immagine how the Stellar core would be the perfect solution for your blockchain & payment cross-border needs since http://Stellar.org|Stellar.org is one of a new breed of tech non-profits whose ambition is for technology to help solve some of the world’s most intractable problems such as financial inclusion. if yes I sincerely hope you will reach other key European members who will hopefully follow the example of the Finnish Immigration Service who has chosen your startup. Well done!

<anttipennanen> @john: Thank you! We're moving very fast with government now and have a lot of support from them. They are even ready to change legislation for us.

<anttipennanen> Before that happens we can experiment with a lot things.

<anttipennanen> The problem with bitcoin and other cryptos is the lack of KYC and AML regulation. We could use bitcoin but we'd end up losing our license.
<stellar-slack>
<anttipennanen> Or it would mean that we'd need to fill a lot of reports to the FSA about these transactions.
<stellar-slack>
<anttipennanen> I think we should try to make a pilot utilizing stellar and our platform for the remittances

<john> @anttipennanen: I can understand your legitimate concerns about the lack of "Know Your Customer" & "Anti Money Laundering" regulations in cryptos in general but why not use Stellar instead? The Stellar Development Foundation is a non-stock corporation organised and existing under the laws of the state of Delaware. @joyce is certainly the right person to talk to regarding any corporation's queries. <anttipennanen> @john: I mean to be compliant we need to be able to reject transactions from the accounts that don't have proper KYC and AML done.
<stellar-slack>
<john> @anttipennanen: *nods* I wonder if with some kind of smart contract it would be possible to nullify/reject certain transaction from an account lacking KYC & AML... I'm not an expert so I won't venture myself there but perhaps @jed can answer but "a pilot utilising stellar" for payments, remittances, loans, microsavings etc... It’s all possible :-) and Stellar is made for it!

<john> A quote from that article: "The UN is esteemed for its neutrality and ability to connect nations. As a nonprofit, Stellar strives for that kind of neutrality—to serve as precisely the kind of universal network that could smooth the movement of money between financial institutions and nations, measurably reducing transaction fees."

<jed> anttipennanen: I'm working on a kyc protocol now. We should set up a call this week to get your input on it.
