<stellar-slack> <resonate> I'm confused... they've started offering lumens... you need to verify thru Facebook... you may (or may not) need a wallet... but HOW does one actually "collect"?

<stellar-slack> <dzham> @resonate: are you thinking about the conversion from STR to XLM, or about their offer to sell XLM on e.g. Kraken?
<stellar-slack> <resonate> no @dzham just the initial offer of Lumens... isn't that the whole strategy... that every person on earth is allotted the opportunity to collect their share of lumens for free, or did I misunderstand something?

<stellar-slack> <akulm> great project initiative. this might have been a repeated question here. Would like to know if someone could tell me, how is stellar protocol different from blockchain?
<stellar-slack> <jed> akulm: the main thing if you are just asking about the consensus method is no mining. There are a lot of other differences if you mean what is different between stellar and bitcoin
<stellar-slack> <akulm> thanks @jed i skimmed through the federated byzantine consensus scheme in whitepaper. will read it in detail. As i understand would peer consensus be the prime difference? How about the distributed record/ledger storage? how is that implemented? ( i'vent gone through the codebase.)
<stellar-slack> <jed> Yeah the way we store data is very different than how it is done in bitcoin.
<stellar-slack> <jed> those should give you some sense
<stellar-slack> <akulm> hey thanks. ive that open.will read. one more thing if i may. 1. is it possible to implement using stellars distributed exchange a hybrid trade exchange that does operations such as order matching over server while rest of operations could be delegated to client side? 2. And is it possible to transfer some AltCoin token over stellar protocol?
<stellar-slack> <jed> 1) what operations are you thinking would be on the client side?
<stellar-slack> <jed> 2) absolutely
<stellar-slack> <akulm> 1) bids, sale, buy, track, etc
<stellar-slack> <akulm> order matching, pathfinding seems easier on the server, (provided contract data is encrypted and not accessible to the server, which we've implemented)
<stellar-slack> <akulm> 2) any reference doc where i could find detail/example/description/how-to on this?
<stellar-slack> <jed> 1) What stuff are you trying to keep private vs what stuff are you ok being publicly known?
<stellar-slack> <jed> 2) This should explain how to put other coins on stellar: https://www.stellar.org/developers/learn/concepts/assets.html
<stellar-slack> <jed> 2) also you can look at https://dividendrippler.com/ it issues other coins on stellar.
