<stellar-slack1> <garth> A developer I know wants to join stellar.slack is there a link I can give him?
<stellar-slack1> <bartek> http://slack.stellar.org|slack.stellar.org
<stellar-slack1> <eva> should be fully automated from that link, garth, but let me know if he has any trouble
<stellar-slack1> <garth> Ok thanks.

<stellar-slack1> <englishm> Before I start looking at developing Stellar services, I’d like to get a sense of how it works from an end-user’s perspective. I found an iOS wallet app called “Stellars” and I see the links above about exchanges where I can trade USD for lumens, but where do I create an account on http://stellar.org|stellar.org?
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> I see some references on the site to using Facebook auth - is there some signup widget that might be blocked by Privacy Badger etc. ?
<stellar-slack1> <scott> @englishm: you don’t need to create an user account on http://stellar.org|stellar.org if you are funding your wallet through an exchange
<stellar-slack1> <scott> Your wallet should have some way to create an account id (or it may do it for you automatically when you first launched the app) and you can provide that account id to the exchange you use when withdrawing funds into the stellar network from the exchange
<stellar-slack1> <scott> I’m not familiar with the IOS app you’re referring to, so I can’t speak specifically to that
<stellar-slack1> <scott> I personally recommend (as in, this is not an endorsement from http://Stellar.org|Stellar.org) https://lobstr.co/
<stellar-slack1> <scott> If you sign up for an account there, there’s a “Receive” section to the app that shows your account id
<stellar-slack1> <scott> referred to as your “lumen address” in the app itself
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> @scott: thanks! I’ll check that out.
<stellar-slack1> <scott> you’re welcome!
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> For reference, here's what Stellars ( https://appsto.re/us/tbMF8.i ) looks like when it opens:
<stellar-slack1> <scott> ah. That’s definitely targeting the older stellar network, which we have recently replaced
<stellar-slack1> <scott> I doubt it works any longer
<stellar-slack1> <scott> If you sign up at lobstr I can send you some stellars to get started (so you don’t have to fuck around with an exchange)
<stellar-slack1> <scott> If you post your account id I’ll send some along
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> Ah, OK. I ended up there after googling "mobile stellar lumen wallet ios” and landing on this thread: https://stellartalk.org/topic/4421-stellar-ios-app/
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> FWIW, that aspect of user onboarding could potentially be improved. The conceptual docs look good, but I’m not ready to invest that much time into reading through them yet. Would rather play with something ASAP.
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> @scott: Thanks! I’ll let you know.
<stellar-slack1> <scott> thanks for the feedback, it’s something that we’re continually trying to improve upon. I don’t think we’ve talked about setting up a client experience on the test net, but it makes total sense to me. I’ll pass it along
<stellar-slack1> <scott> fwiw: you can fund a test account pretty simply from https://www.stellar.org/developers/
<stellar-slack1> <scott> but that doesn’t really give you a test of the user experience most people will go through
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> OK, it doesn’t look like lobstr is available in the iOS app store yet, but I did create an account on the web.
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> mailto:englishm@lobstr.co|englishm@lobstr.co
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> It looks like they gave me 20 XLM for opening an account. Cool. :)
<stellar-slack1> <bartek> I sent you some XLM so you can test live network. 20 XLM is a minimum balance every account must have. (more info https://www.stellar.org/developers/learn/concepts/fees.html)
<stellar-slack1> <scott> I just sent 100xlm on the live network
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> @bartek, @scott thanks!
<stellar-slack1> <scott> :) np. If you’ve got any dev questions if/when you write some code, I’m happy to help over in the dev channel
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> Oh neat, @bartek’s came with a message attached.
<stellar-slack1> <bartek> yeap, transactions can have a memo attached (https://www.stellar.org/developers/learn/concepts/transactions.html)
<stellar-slack1> <englishm> Oh, I just realized there’s also a #start-here channel. Sorry for polluting #general. :flushed: Might consider making #start-here a channel new Slack users also join by default.
