<stellar-slack>
<lab> got msg from jed: morning SF time so in 16 or so hours probably
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> I guess it’s time to consolidate the 1000 or so STR I’ve got, in time for the upgrade :)
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> it's the 3rd here so is it now active?
<stellar-slack>
<lab> in SF time
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> oh I just read back
<stellar-slack>
<lab> do you know the upgrade details?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I know you will just go to the old site and it will allow you to transfer to your new account
<stellar-slack>
<lab> will the balance transferred by snapshot or one account by one account?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> a direct transfer 1 to 1
<stellar-slack>
<lab> how long will old network last
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> maybe not long but maybe a year or so
<stellar-slack>
<lab> it's was i thought the upgrade would be.
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I guess at some point they can just freeze the old account and still be able to move between to the new one if stellar desires
<stellar-slack>
<lab> but it seems not correct.
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> what's not correct?
<stellar-slack>
<lab> transfer 1 to 1 and last old network for months
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> you think it better it just shut down in one day? remind you it has more then just STR in it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I think it's more dependent on how long it takes for people to all migrate to it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I only have STR and CHP in the old network
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> so easy for me to move
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> People have had more than half a year to prepare for this
<stellar-slack>
<lab> i agree with you. we need details from sf.
<stellar-slack>
<lab> sdf
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> I’m more interested in seeing what the distribution is going to look like when it resumes.
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> ya and this time I will have access to the database that I always wanted to see on the old stellar but failed to get stellard to run on my computer with just 4gb mem
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> now you will be able to see all the transactions and prices
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> or maybe you consider bitcoin already this idea
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I noted this FINCEN action on Ripple in May 2015. wonder what's going to stop the US from enacting that on stellar?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> and if so who would be considered responsible in this case?
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> What’s the proper way to do assets with non-fractional pricing? Trustline docs says "Asset defines the unit for this”, but that doesn’t help much if all the wallets assume 32.32 bit data
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> Ripple was selling XRP directly to 3rd parties, and in that one case they didn’t to the proper AML filings
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I thought every asset was going to have the same decimal position
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> oh so if stellar only gives them away for free they are not lible?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> or maybe stellar does file?
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> That’s why I’m asking.. I’ve been poking around Counterparty quite a lot recently, buying "Spells of Genesis” trading cards.
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> @sacarlson: that ought to be the case.. In the case of an auction (like they did before), the participants are already KYC:ed by the gateway
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> There are more cases where a fractional balance doesn’t make any sense. Shares being the big one, of course.
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> oh ya I guess you can't resell a fractional share of IBM stocks on any other network
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> or even a fraction of a BEER for that mater, I always want a full one
de_henne_ has joined #stellar
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I guess until that is decided they will only be trading currency assets that don't mind decimal fractional pricing
de_henne has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I guess the other alternative is you just allow trading fractions of equity stock assets but are forced to liquidate to other networks with only an integer quantity
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> It is a bit of a shame though, because apart from that, the platform is actually bloody amazing for issuing equity on. I don’t even think they know half of it.
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes I think it should be. and maybe all the other networks might just follow and just allow fractional share exchange
<stellar-slack>
<jed> dzham: you can issue assets in stroop units and then the won't be divisible
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes that's another option
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> @jed: but the wallets will still asume a base of 1e7 when they display amounts
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> make your own wallet
<stellar-slack>
<jed> well that is up to the wallet
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> I AM
<stellar-slack>
<jed> if there are conventions around the currency code then they don't have to
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> on your wallet you can set the decimal anyplace you want
<stellar-slack>
<lab> hey jed, can you explain the upgrade?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> even on bitcoin wallets they have settings to adjust decimal depending on ??
<stellar-slack>
<lab> bitcoin has no custom asset
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes but there value change so radicaly that people couldn't handle the number of zerooooos
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> I can handle zeroes, if they are to the right of any other digits ;)
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I'll add an integer mode on my wallet today for your equity trading
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> @lab I think the question you might be asking is what are the active gateways going to do with the other assets. That is not really under the control of stellar and is dependent on what each gateway decides
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> the only thing Stellar has control over is the transfer of STR to Lumens
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> the Thailand gateway I was using already gave notice to me that they would discontinue at least for some time to hold any assets in STR or any other stellar assets

<cryptojoe> Is the network upgrade still scheduled for today?
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> yep!
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> we’re getting it set up at the moment
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i know many people misunderstand this upgrade would be in parallel network way instead snapshot way.
akuukis is now known as zz_akuukis
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> So, do you think having a public Q&A about the process would help things? We’re certainly not trying to hide things from you… I think any gaps in communication are from ignorance on our part, not deceit.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i understand.
<stellar-slack1>
<timon> A blog post about the date last week would have helped
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> yeah, definitely
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> let me ask few questions may be candidates in Q&A
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> will all address placed in new network or trigger on demand?
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> The upgrade must be triggered by the account owner
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> @lab there should be a published blog post with all the details - let me see what the status is
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> can i set inflation dest in account viewer?
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> no you have to do it with API
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> we will have a tool that allows this done in a couple weeks
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> @joyce: nice
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> why stroops are changed to 1e-7 from 1e-6? what about my balance and fees?
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> they have always been 1e-7 it was just mis-documented until a couple months ago.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i think these all should be illustrated in weeks ago.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> 1e-6 is in stellard network.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Ok so the plan was to publish the blog post w details once all the upgraded software is out. But in our planning, we forgot abt the gap to get the upgrade software pushed - which is the time right now. Apologies for this oversight. am working with eva now to publish more infosounds
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> Looking forward to it.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i asked guide for exchanges
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> on 28th
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> @lab: Could you describe your question "what about my balance and fees?” further? I don’t understand what you’re asking.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> but i see 3 exchange are complain about this upgrade
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> how will my balance and fees change due to unit change, @scott, forgive my bad english.
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> balance will be the same
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> Your balance will stay the same… If you had 100 STR, you’ll have 100 XLM; That means that you’ll have 10x stroops than you did on the old network
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> Fee’s are also 10x in terms of stroops. The base fee is 100 stroops instead of 10, like it was on the old network (if I recall correctly)
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> thanks scott.
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> np
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i feel better now. :)
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> +1. We’ll try to do better going forward
<stellar-slack1>
<donovan> Are any gateways actually geared up to operate on the new network?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> will nelisky be one?
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> Hi Donovan:) We have been in contact with folks helping answer questions as folks upgrade.
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> I'll leave it up to individual ones to announce and go live as they see fit tho since its companies:)
<stellar-slack1>
<nelisky> lab: I got a bit behind on the upgrade (still working on it) but DR will definitely be running on the new stellar "soon (tm)"
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> DR is cool
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> (for those that don't know, the :ewok: is my fav of all favs)
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> @nelisky Awesome!!!
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> @joyce Noted!
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> @lab I agree.
<stellar-slack1>
<nelisky> I do have one small nothingness of an issue though... there's no "transfer fee", right? so I'll have to start charging for deposits and/or withdrawals?
<stellar-slack1>
<nelisky> not that it matters much, DR is completely unprofitable at this point, but since I use it personally it needs to keep operating ;)
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> @nelisky: yeah, there is no automatic transfer fee in the new network
<stellar-slack1>
<mr_selenio> I have connection error! In my wallet is that normal?
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> yes we are upgrading the network right now
<stellar-slack1>
<mr_selenio> Nice
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> another couple hours probably
<stellar-slack1>
<mr_selenio> Ok, thanks
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> what is GD6WU64OEP5C4LRBH6NK3MHYIA2ADN6K6II6EXPNVUR3ERBXT4AN4ACD for?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> it has 100M XLM and10 signer, but default thresholds.
zz_akuukis is now known as akuukis
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> hey lab - Its one of the http://stellar.org|stellar.org accounts
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> i guess so. just remind don't forget change threshholds
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> @smartiphone market response is negative till now.
<stellar-slack1>
<smartiphone> yeah that's right
<stellar-slack1>
<smartiphone> just checked the exchange rate in poloniex and seems that it is going down as the bitcoin price has been increased.
<stellar-slack1>
<goodside> @smartiphone: It's going down if you denominate the price in BTC, but BTC is increasing rapidly. The price of STR in USD is stable, and even going up slightly. Just not as much as BTC.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> new money rushed in btc market is shortsighted
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> they have not even thought about centralizing mining
<stellar-slack1>
<smartiphone> @jessica yes basically that is how should it work, but now in exchanges will it be updated to Lumens or is there any timeline for this
<stellar-slack1>
<eva> @smartiphone: each individual exchange/gateway will need to upgrade their software - when they do upgrade, their stellars will be called lumens. Again, it’s just a name change.
<stellar-slack1>
<smartiphone> It's clear.
<stellar-slack1>
<smartiphone> I just want to see stellar rising, and having a higher value as it was before. :)
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> not sure. upcoming 20bil free XLM for bitcoin program is on the way.
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> how big is the leveldb of stellard?
<stellar-slack1>
<lab> jed ,scott or monsieurnicolas, who is taking the snapshot?
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> jed took the snapshot, and I’m not sure of the size
IAmNotDorian has joined #stellar

<jed> upgrade via the endpoint works now.
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> Hey Eva, when you copy the secret key to put in the account view it says "secret key invalid", because it accidentally copies a space before the secret key. took me a minute to figure this out
<stellar-slack1>
<eva> ah makes sense - yeah, definitely make sure you just select the secret key itself
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> @scott according to the account viewer my balance is the same as what i had before you sent 20.251961 lumens Your Stellar public key: GA6R2WSSMNUGYXL4ZCUHOOKZN4VTMCWUO2QDPFO2V2C5VL2IKZR7W37N
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> let me check it out… might be a bug
<stellar-slack1>
<mr_selenio> You can double click to select it
<stellar-slack1>
<mr_selenio> It will select just the key without any spaces
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> for some reason mine includes the space. using firefox on mac
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> @cryptojoe: 20.251961 is the right value… I only sent your 0.01 lumens, and your account was created with 20.241961 lumens
<stellar-slack1>
<raymens> Crazy network upgrade day :)
<stellar-slack1>
<cryptojoe> @scott LOL, i wasn't paying attention to the decimal. cool.
<stellar-slack1>
<scott> :) no worries
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> powderfan: does your wallet support federation?
<stellar-slack1>
<dzham> @jed: speaking of federation, do you have reverse federation documented? *I* know how it works, but others may not
<stellar-slack1>
<powderfan> no, not yet
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> does it allow memos?
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> dzham: improving the federation docs is on my list
<stellar-slack1>
<joyce> @dzham: also people can contribute documentation too :)
<stellar-slack1>
<powderfan> @jed: you mean for gateway destination tag? yes this should work
<stellar-slack1>
<jed> timon ^
<stellar-slack1>
<timon> great, thanks
<stellar-slack1>
<timon> @powderfan, do you have a link to your wallet?
