<jesse> @dzham @kwelster what’s wrong with hiring justcoin’s execs? Because they got screwed by Ripple and had to sell the business, they shouldn’t ever be employed again?
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> they didn’t get screwed. they did the screwing. brekken didn’t understand the protocol. the whole blame game afterwards. plus, selling the company when they still had liabilities. I don’t know what happened, but I never got back my (full) funds, so I guess the buyer didn’t recognize those liabilities
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> @jesse: ^^
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> I’d say the protocol was undocumented. Ripple didn’t even know of this issue for a long time and when they patched it, they didn’t document it and they didn’t let any of the exchanges know about it. Given they’re a centralized protocol, I’d expect more responsibility than that. Least they could have done is support their ecosystem by making people whole with their billions of xrp they’re sitting
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> according to the justcoin PR everyone else in the world had more responsibility for the issue than they did
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> If you didn’t get reimbursed, I’d take it up with the acquirer. It’s not uncommon for companies with debt to be acquired
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> the issue was that some exchanges looked at the signed tx_json instead of the actual meta result. meta had a big fat “devlivered amount” member. If you miss that, then it's your bloody fault when you get taken to the cleaners
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> bloody hell, even *I* got that right, and I just did a wallet
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> I don’t remember the specifics enough to debate it. Andreas and Klaus have been great at Kraken. If you have losses, take them up with ANX
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> I dont’ particularly care about the losses. All I wanted was for them to man up, and accept responsibility
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> how would they do that?
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> instead of acting like children
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> To not blame everyone else
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> "ANX has acquired the domain name and brand rights to troubled Norway-based bitcoin exchange Justcoin.” so customer liabilities didn’t get transferred
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> I don’t think there’s any doubt that at the end of the day, the exchange is responsible
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> (by the looks of that article)
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> it’s why we don’t generally mess around with protocols that we have not thoroughly evaluated ourselves. I’m surprised more pure crypto exchanges haven’t blown up over stuff like that
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> my understanding was that the customers did get transferred
<stellar-slack>
<dzham> again, the problem was never the protocol, but people not thoroughly verifying the transactions results
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> it obviously could have been prevented with better documentation, an update to the community once Ripple had corrected the issue.
<stellar-slack>
<jesse> you could say that people not waiting for 10 bitcoin confirmations are also not thoroughly verifying the transaction results

<stellar-slack>
<dzham> Partial payments should have been better documented, that’s true. But verifying the amount received in a transaction could/should have been done independently of that. I.e., check the meta stanza in the transaction result… affected nodes, see how their balances change.

<sacarlson> dzham: in the present stellar does the meta in txhistory have any value? I assume that if the transaction result returns success then that was it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I filter out the meta data thinking I don't need it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but I'm well know for doing stupid things before so...

<kwelstr> @jesse I am not the one that made the point, I was just quoting what @donovan was talking about. Anyhow, I didn't lose much with Justcoin personally but some of my friends did, they never got their funds back.
