<bartek> we're starting "Integrator Office Hours” now. we will try answer all of your burning questions ;) [please ask more technical questions in #dev.]
<Kwelstr>
@lab he will owe a lot of money in taxes IF he is the right guy... heh
<stellar-slack>
<garth> Good morning. When I issue my currency I start a ledger and people open accounts to send and receive the currency. Are both of these referred to as a wallet?
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> @garth: by "ledger" you mean your application/company ledger or Stellar ledger?
<stellar-slack>
<garth> My application ledger. But isn't that part of the larger stellar ledger? Or is it a completely separate ledger?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> as far as I see it a wallet can hold more than one currency or asset
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> a wallet app can hold more than one account
<stellar-slack>
<jed> kwelstr: he would only owe taxes if he actually sold the btc
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> @garth: I started to write a long answer to your question but I think this article willexplain the concepts of gateways (what you are asking about): https://www.stellar.org/blog/introducing-stellar/ (see "How it works" section)
<stellar-slack>
<garth> But when you issue your poker chips are you doing that from what you call a wallet? Yes I've read the learn page but it seems there should be separate terms for the issuing wallet and other accounts big I guess they are the same except one wallet can issue. I am not a developer so I'm not clear on how issuing takes place.
<stellar-slack>
<jed> issuing is just: 1) B trusts A for some asset. 2) A sends B some asset 3) now you can say A has issued that asset.
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> and in terms of "wallets": A and B are wallets/accounts (depending on the naming)
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> garth any account can be an issuer. my wallet app allows anyone to issuer any asset they can imagin to anyone, as long as that point has setup a trust line for it
<stellar-slack>
<garth> So I can issue my currency on your wallet sacarlson? I don't need to develope my own wallet?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> no you don't but when you see mine you will realize how primitive it is and maybe not something anybody would want to use
<stellar-slack>
<garth> But in general can I issue a currency on any wallet?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> no not all wallets support ability to issuer
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> you should create or select a wallet that has the functions that you can use not all that exist in stellar
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> there just needs to be one UI implementation and then anyone can create an asset on the Stellar network without any trouble, it's a really simple process
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> garth: by "wallet" you mean "application". there are different types of applications but most of them are client apps so users can only use assets that have been already issued. for now you need to write your own application to issue assets but maybe someone will develop the app to issue currencies in the future. the simple version of this app is pretty trivial to build imho.
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> sacarlson: probably as it doesn't even render in my browser, hehe
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> seee
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> so fix it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> the code is public on github
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> it runs in firefox
<stellar-slack>
<garth> Bartek. For you the simple app is easy to build. How big of a project is it for a developer who is new to stellar?
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> For any somewhat experienced developer I would say it is simple
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> It's just about using SDKs that are available
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> since mine is already functional all that is needed is someone with more css knowhow to make it look better
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> it all depends on the number of transactions you company/project will need per day. for up to ~10 tx per day I'd say you can even issue assets manually (we will release transaction builder in https://stellar.org/laboratory soon for experimenting with building transactions), for more transactions per day it's better to have automated solution. but as @raymens it should be simple for any developer who has experien
<stellar-slack>
<jed> sacarlson: have you ever looked at bootstrap?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> nope I've only begun looking at css
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> you can skip that whole part (somewhat) with bootstrap
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I'm a programer not an artist, leave the looks to someone else. it works
<stellar-slack>
<garth> Sacarlson's and other SDKs are available at github yes? Can you specifically recommend the SDKs to build this simple app with?
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> that's why they invented bootstrap
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> since I only use the basic features on the browser side that's all I need. most my development is in ruby on the server side
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> will this be a regular thing, the integrator office hours?
<stellar-slack>
<jed> yeah I think so
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> it's text you can put in a request 24 hours a day. they will get to it
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> yeah I know, but for some it might persuade them to join :) and get quick answers
<stellar-slack>
<garth> The github link is helpful. Thanks for your patience.
<stellar-slack>
<bartek> @garth: no problem, don't hesitate to ask any questions any time. someone will try to answer for sure.
<stellar-slack>
<garth> Still wouldn't mind having a specific name for the currency issuing app that I am trying to build. To me it doesn't seem like it is either a gateway or a wallet. It's like an issuing wallet or a master wallet?
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> having a "Create Trustline" and "Issue Credit" tab in the account-viewer for example would helpful I think. After you ticked a "Advanced Operations" checkbox for example
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> you say it didn't render so here it is
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> for beginners that's very complicated to understand I think
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes it's writen for me now for normal people. I write what I use
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but it has all the features most will need so you can take out what you don't what to see
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> like I said I'm not an artist
