Hey everyone. I have a P3113 Gtab 2 with the student edition keyboard dock, and it was mentioned that a fix for it on AOSP-based builds was made in AOKP, and that it was sent to CM10 devs. Has this fix made it into CM10 yet?

I mean standard auto answer, what you expect to use when driving, for example. Standard on stock, just can´t find it on CM10...
<davi>
chadouming, I think ODIN does not work on GNU/Linux.
<chadouming>
nope, get heimdall

<whitequark>
bealtine: not correct, at least not in a strict way
<bealtine>
it is correct
<chadouming>
nope, c++ is an addition to c

<davi>
chadouming is right
<Espenfjo>
hm
<whitequark>
davi: I don't have an English-language CV (no point in having one); I can send you my Russian one, and if you'd like to see the interesting stuff I've worked at you can take a look at http://github.com/whitequark/
<whitequark>
bealtine: sure
<Espenfjo>
I really wouldnt call it an addition, though
<Espenfjo>
bealtine: Quite simply.. C came before C+++
<davi>
whitequark, what is the language you use in your resume?
<whitequark>
bealtine: there are some syntactic constructs in C which are not syntactically valid in C++, and other way too (obviously)
<whitequark>
davi: Russian
<bealtine>
its an evolution of the original c standard
<chadouming>
well, it's different
<chadouming>
c++ is object
<whitequark>
bealtine: evolution indeed
<bealtine>
c with classes was the first iteration
<Espenfjo>
chadouming: You can do OO in C as well ;)
<whitequark>
but you can't just get some C code, and compile it with a C++ compiler
<davi>
whitequark, Russian! I am a English, Spanish, Portuguese hole :)
<chadouming>
yes, but the language is not made for
<bealtine>
of course you can
<davi>
Espenfjo is right
rodries has joined #teamhacksung-support
<whitequark>
davi: sure. If you're interested in code I've written, I'd advise you to take a look at my github profile.
<Espenfjo>
The original name of c++ was "C with Classes"
<bealtine>
snap!
<chadouming>
lol, it's been like 5 years i havnt touched that really
<chadouming>
i already saw history of c/c++ in school
<whitequark>
bealtine: int proc(void) { int new = 1; return new; }
<bealtine>
C++ is a direct descendant of C that retains almost all of C as a subset.
<bealtine>
move on ffs
<whitequark>
yeah, that's correct
<bealtine>
thats all i'm saying
<whitequark>
ok
<bealtine>
a just because a few mongolians never heard of new doesnt cause a problem
<whitequark>
again, you're implying that someone was deliberately (or due to malicious negligency) writing incompatible code
<whitequark>
that's incorrect.
<bealtine>
i disagree
<bealtine>
but i'm not going to continue with this
<Espenfjo>
I dont understand this
<whitequark>
davi: ok, my claim that you don't know how to use google was definitely incorrect; but judging from the scope of your experience, writing ARM patches for kernel might be complex depending on the exact feature you're aiming to work on.
<davi>
Yes, I think it will be hard to me. Fortunately I have free time.
<whitequark>
Cortex-A* chips can be very complicated, especially at lower levels
<davi>
I think a JTAG Unit is only needed to fix the device if I do "the big mess".
<whitequark>
haha, you almost never have jtag on production devices
<Espenfjo>
Just stay away from code relating to the emmc ;)
<bealtine>
so start with a c primer the K&R book is still one of the best
<davi>
I see. I only have must consumer device
<whitequark>
you can take a look at ODROID-Q, which is basically a Samsung tablet with exposed debug interfaces and testpoints
<whitequark>
it's somewhat costly, twice more expensive than a typical tablet
<whitequark>
but it has JTAG, complete sources, docs and schematics
<davi>
thanks. First I will try with my current device and then invest money if actually needed
<whitequark>
tbh you're unlikely to brick the device while working on the kernel
<davi>
Can I download the source code of CM 10 for Galaxy Note? Is it public?
<whitequark>
but debugging without JTAG can be a pain
<davi>
I see. Why? Is gdb not supported? You know, set breakpoint does not work?
<whitequark>
well, that's how kernel works
<whitequark>
you _could_ get some limited gdb support with kdb, but I'm not sure if you can get serial port on Note
<davi>
oops, I see
<whitequark>
I don't have one
XDS2010__ has joined #teamhacksung-support
<whitequark>
for SGS2, that'd require tweaking bootloader parameters to make the crossbar switch expose UART at startup
<whitequark>
and some custom albeit trivial hardware to hook to that UART
<davi>
Galaxy Note connectivity = Bluetooth 3.0; Micro USB 2.0; USB Host (OTG) 2.0 ,...
<whitequark>
still, kdb won't allow you to do every thing you could do with jtag
<whitequark>
it's nonstandard.
<whitequark>
it's a debug feature which was reverse engineered
<whitequark>
you won't get any help with low-level developing for any of the production phones.
<whitequark>
that is, from vendors.
<davi>
I see
<davi>
low-level = kernel level debugging
<davi>
?
<davi>
So only kdb, limited support.
<davi>
?
raXuz has joined #teamhacksung-support
<whitequark>
yeah, and only if you're lucky to know a way to expose UART
<davi>
and only if serial line is available?
<whitequark>
exactly
<davi>
I see

Well, I think that if I am going with this, the best will be invest on that hardware or similar one. Before investing I will do extra research to be sure the one you point me is the best option.
<Espenfjo>
perhaps an rpi or panda would be wise?
<whitequark>
sounds sane
<bealtine>
get a book on c too
<whitequark>

<davi>
Thanks Espenfjo; I am searching for them

<whitequark>
panda/beagleboards are pretty nice
<lolwat>
have to do reseach online if possible
<davi>
bealtine, I have 4 books under my monitor :)
<bealtine>
read them
<whitequark>
Espenfjo: e.g. you need to do very strange things in order to get JTAG on rpi. it just wasn't created for low-level developing at all
<davi>
good advice. Reading is always good advice
<davi>
whitequark, So rpi out of list
<Espenfjo>
whitequark: True enough
<whitequark>
davi: I haven't looked into pandaboard a lot; I did that with ODROID-* boards and BeagleBoard
<whitequark>
but a quick look tells me that pandaboard should be good enough for you
<whitequark>
ODROID-Q has all common tablet peripherals like screen, through
<whitequark>
neither Beagle nor Panda do
AdamG- has joined #teamhacksung-support
<davi>
OK, so the best option (budget problem out) would be the ODROID-Q
<whitequark>
if you would like to develop on Note but are unable due to its closedness, then yes
<lolwat>
would it be possible to let the acceleratometer running while phone is sleeping and use it as wakeup source?
<lolwat>
i mean like if you twist it then your phone would wake up
<whitequark>
lolwat: theoretically
<whitequark>
most accelerometers have low-power interrupt modes exactly for that task
<lolwat>
whitequark, kernel or upper layer?
<lolwat>
ic kernel
slainer68 has joined #teamhacksung-support
<lolwat>
but then it wouldn't be possible to make it learn gestures
<whitequark>
well, judging from what I've seen in existing sammy drivers, they don't implement a feature unless they absolutely need it
<whitequark>
so, both
<lolwat>
for that i'd need some code running on the cpu right?
<whitequark>
yes
<lolwat>
damn
<whitequark>
you see, you can set up the accelerometer if there is any movement, and only then wakeup the CPU
<whitequark>
this way it won't consume power while laying straight on table

question regarding titanium backup. If you dont wipe your internal sd and then flash a new rom, your internal sd will still contain folders from apps you previously installed, but no longer use. If you then take a TB backup when you're on the new rom, does TB back up these folders and assume they are installed apps?
<Jiangyi>
chieftex: TB backs up apps and their folders into compressed files.
<chieftex>
yes, but does it check installed apps, or does it check app folders and assume those folders contain active apps?
