<m4t> vectorizing eh
<m4t> i tried to send something in chat but dont have a twitch accnt
superctr_ has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<cr1901_modern> Yes, you need a twitch acct for this lol
<m4t> ;(
<m4t> there goes my plan to load up a bunch of spambots
<whitequark> cr1901_modern: oh neat you're vectorizing opm
<cr1901_modern> yes, or at least testing that the setup still works
<cr1901_modern> Inkscape and streaming == a legitimate load on this laptop, so if I can avoid having to had the damn web twitch chat open (close the web browser), I'd like to
<cr1901_modern> Msgs send and receive from IRC client _for me_, but I've no evidence that msgs snd and recv for others
<cr1901_modern> EDIT: Msgs snd and recv for others. But ppl who join the room don't appear in the user list
<cr1901_modern> ahh well, that's what I wanted to test

<cr1901_modern> https://twitter.com/cr1901/status/1185021947832344576 One of them is ATA, another is Mitsumi, another is Matsushita/Panasonic, Idk what the last one is
<cr1901_modern> I have a sound card that's lacking ATA but has the other three... Sony is the last one maybe?
<whitequark> ... ATA?
<whitequark> oh right
<cr1901_modern> TIL that when I talk about "CD ROMs reusing the hard drive connector", the most correct term is ATAPI
<whitequark> yeah

<SceneCAT> cr1901_modern: tried adding yur twtich #channel to IRC client?
<cr1901_modern> SceneCAT: Yup, and it works. Except the user list only shows me at any given time
<cr1901_modern> But I can send and receive msgs just fine
<SceneCAT> would need to be #cr1091 instead if #CR1901 iirc
<SceneCAT> aah, k. Nice. and yeah, twitch is twitchy, and so is their chat very often
<cr1901_modern> #cr1901 works. The important thing is that I don't need to keep a web browser open when I stream; I can keep inkscape, music player, and OBS open and really that's pretty intense already
<cr1901_modern> oh and of course, the chat window
<SceneCAT> yup, heavy resource demanding
<cr1901_modern> Anyways, streaming works as well as I could hope still, even though I haven't done it in over a year. I should try to make it a weekly regular occurrence for a few hours. Might build discipline. And it's fun to chat w/ ppl when I draw polygons lol
<SceneCAT> new follower
<SceneCAT> *grinnn*
<cr1901_modern> tyvm :)
<SceneCAT> specially logged in to do just that
<SceneCAT> hwhw, np
<SceneCAT> !Coffee
<cr1901_modern> Tentatively, I'll stream again Monday night (6 PM EDT?) for an hour or two. I want to create a libvgm app whose single purpose is to spawn a Window with the VGM title and contents, while it plays the music.
<SceneCAT> like a Foobar Component?
<cr1901_modern> I have no idea what those are, but yea
<SceneCAT> hehe, another Now Playing thingy for a audio player
<SceneCAT> can be reached thru many different ways i guess
<cr1901_modern> The setup I have now (using vgmplay) doesn't work well because OBS _really_ wants to capture a full window, and I could only get "now playing" to work by opening a terminal and capturing a section of the screen
<SceneCAT> obs can also grab part of a window capture?
<cr1901_modern> yes
<SceneCAT> sub-region
<cr1901_modern> If your window region is off-screen, obs will stop updating/painting it
<SceneCAT> and innner or entire window
<SceneCAT> ah, like so.
<cr1901_modern> Anyways it's a hack, but... nobody needs to know how hacky it is behind the scenes :P
<SceneCAT> i had some issues also last time i tried to 'just capture this window, damnit!'
<SceneCAT> hehehe
<SceneCAT> hacky hacky
<cr1901_modern> So I use my second monitor for the "now playing" terminal and chat, and my primary monitor for inkscape, and then I draw/stream, checking for any chat msgs
<cr1901_modern> I don't expect most ppl to actually be interested, I just like the social component lol
<SceneCAT> hehe
<SceneCAT> hope you'll get it all working how you want/need it to work
<cr1901_modern> Works as well as I care right now P
<cr1901_modern> :P*
<cr1901_modern> (OBS "just works")
<cr1901_modern> anyways bbl, thanks for the hints/follow :P
<SceneCAT> and other obs like Streamlabs obs is prolly more resource demanding than old obs 32 or 64 bit
<SceneCAT> i'm also off in a few. have a good one o/

<Lord_Nightmare> defender was running into the same issue with obs being screwy about windows when there's multiple screens
<Lord_Nightmare> he worked around it by backfeeding hdmi out into the hdmi capture INPUT and then capturing THAT instead which worked
<Lord_Nightmare> horrible hack but it works

<andlabs> what's the best service for printing eagle boards
<andlabs> unless someone knows of a way to buy one of these already assembled, since the guy made one batch back in 2016
<andlabs> (or convince me to wait for the next FM-YAM instead)
<cr1901_modern> andlabs: most board services allow you to upload an eagle prj file nowadays. Try oshpark or JCLPCB
<andlabs> ok
<andlabs> and then I'll need to figure out the parts for this, hmmm
<andlabs> is that in the Eagle file?
<cr1901_modern> they should provide a BOM on the website
<cr1901_modern> and they don't
<cr1901_modern> uhh, it's encoded in the Eagle file, but I couldn't tell you how to grab them
<andlabs> I'm downloading KiCad
<andlabs> and what websit elol
<andlabs> also why does everyone use Eagle format
<cr1901_modern> Because we can't have nice things
<andlabs> Eagle has been screwing people over since 1991 and Autodesk is happy to continue the screwover now that they own it
<andlabs> and it's not like AutoCAD where the altenratives do not compete at all
<cr1901_modern> Altium is worse IMO... Dave Jones used to work for them, tried to get them to be nicer to hobbyists after they left, got banned from the forums.
<andlabs> good job
<andlabs> :|
<andlabs> anyway KiCad can import the file perfectly AFAICT and epxort a CSV BOM
<andlabs> ...maybe
<andlabs> I don't know what the difference between the .brd and .sch files are
<andlabs> they both produce the same bom though
<andlabs> I'm not sure if this is just dumping the silkscreens or if I can actually use this
<andlabs> .......and if this is a cross between EasyFlash and the SOund Expander then ??????
<cr1901_modern> That is almost certainly dumping the actual components
<cr1901_modern> the .brd file describes how traces are laid out; the .sch file describes how components are logically connected. You can in principle skip the .sch file, but you get valuable info for routing the .brd file if you do a .sch
<cr1901_modern> If you use a board house that doesn't accept kicard .brd files, they will want Gerber files; Idk how to generate those from kicad, but you'll want TopSilk, TopPaste, TopCopper, BottomSilk, BottomPaste, BottomCopper, etc
<andlabs> I'm not sure if they can be imported as a unit though
<andlabs> heh
<andlabs> I don't know how to use this software so eh
<cr1901_modern> Send them all the files _including_ the kicad .prj file as a zip and see what happens
<andlabs> still probably not going to go through with it
<andlabs> the guy posted the files out of charity but was really aiming to sell a bunch of premade units on a specific forum back in 2016
<andlabs> (the files are CC-BY-SA)
<andlabs> oh well I won't need the SFX Sound Expander anyway, I was more curious

<cr1901_modern> ej5: Learning what "losing the recipe" means was very depressing :'D. But also, it's not like anyone can really do anything about it, so I'll try not to dwell on it.
<cr1901_modern> if(!can_do_something_about_it(worries)) free(worries);
<ej5> heh
<cr1901_modern> delete *this;
<cr1901_modern> "KEEP RETROCOMPUTING AFFORDABLE". A laudable goal.
<ej5> yup! especially for amiga crap. always so overpriced
<cr1901_modern> Even in 2013, gone were the days that ppl didn't know better. It took me a LONG time to find a reasonably priced 8-bit VGA card
<ej5> most of retrocomputing is full of people who just think it's a hobby. only the amigoids think they have a multimillion dollar business that they could grow into an international conglomerate
<cr1901_modern> And Amiga and x68k are prohibitively expensive for me to get into 68k world
<ej5> OR just get a pile of 16-bit VGA cards and try them all to find one that works in an 8 bit slot
* cr1901_modern stares at his 50 Dallas Clock Modules
<cr1901_modern> Yea I guess I could do that to
<cr1901_modern> (btw, the Dalla Clock Module is an evil EVIL chip, and I would contribute to a crowdfunding campaign for a modern equivalent)
<ej5> maybe glitch will do something about it.
<ej5> afk for a while...
* cr1901_modern nods
<KitsuWhooa> at least you can replace the batteries on the dallas modules :p
<cr1901_modern> I have done it once and it didn't work
<cr1901_modern> and it's very annoying work
<KitsuWhooa> Could've been like those m68ks on sega arcade pcbs that had built in sram with encryption keys
<KitsuWhooa> :p
<cr1901_modern> or suicide batteries
<KitsuWhooa> yeah
<KitsuWhooa> suicide battery was on the cpu package :p
