ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths
<andlabs> which is not 8051
<andlabs> it's actually a 16-bit ISA
<andlabs> you can loosely call it the successor to the 8051 series
<andlabs> in fact it's derived from a chip called the 8061 soooo
<andlabs> (that chip was a proprietary chip created for Ford)
<Xyz_39808> o7
<Xyz_39808> is it fine to share this publicly? or just wait for an official pack?

<Lord_Nightmare> i'm not. maybe ask dopefishjustin, gridle or vas from mame, all of them know japanese to at least some extent
<Lord_Nightmare> chris covell lives in japan these days as well

<cr1901_modern> ValleyBell: Awesome, tyvm
<andlabs> I don't want to just random people out of nowhere
<andlabs> later though
<andlabs> afk
<cr1901_modern> ValleyBell: Is that a public link?
<cr1901_modern> Also sounds great!
<ValleyBell> That is a public link that I shared at a bunch of other places as well.
<cr1901_modern> You may wish to contact Sapzaimon to link to the VGMs in their vids
<cr1901_modern> and awesome, gonna link that link on hellsite now
<ValleyBell> I won't do an actual VGM pack for Project2612 though.
<cr1901_modern> Ahh, why not (not that it materially affects me)?
<ValleyBell> for that I insist on ingame logging instead of dumping it via a PC-based recreation of the sound driver.
<cr1901_modern> Oh I didn't know that it was possible to ingame log and create a VGM (without missing timing of the next music cue)
<cr1901_modern> You mean logging from a physical Genesis?
<KitsuWhooa> emulator :p
<cr1901_modern> >via a PC-based recreation of the sound driver.
<cr1901_modern> Oh, this fell under emulator for me

<ValleyBell> "PC-based recreation of the sound driver" is high-level emulation and makes you able to introduces fixed (and bugs)
<ValleyBell> SMPSPlay also tries to cover as many variants of SMPS as possible, so it doesn't always behave 100% like the original driver.
<ValleyBell> That's what I rely on emulating the original game in an emulator + logging VGMs with that.
<ValleyBell> The DAC also sounds much cleaner in SMPSPlay than the actual game, because SMPSPlay doesn't have to pause the PCM sample stream in order to process the sequence data.

<cr1901_modern> looks like only parts of the schematic are in the repo. Guessing it was done by hand w/o something like dietools
<balrog> Foone: I got an AlphaSyntauri and software some time back
<balrog> Lord_Nightmare and I imaged the disks and we sent them to 4akm
<balrog> 4am*
<balrog> Foone: I have the interface board. Cloning it would not be difficult
<balrog> (The interface board would be easier than the audio boards)
<cr1901_modern> I'm ngl... I thought AlphaSyntauri was another floppy copier project lmao
<balrog> lol

<andlabs> https://www.siliconera.com/rally-x-and-galaga-sound-composer-nobuyuki-ohnogi-has-sadly-passed-away/ composer of the very first video game background music track (rally-x) has died
<cr1901_modern> Well shit :/...
<Lord_Nightmare> did he do rally-x or new-rally-x? rally-x did have a background track but the one everyone thinks of is new-rally-x
