ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths

Blarg, I was hoping to fill in the FM Theory page on SIpr0n, but my todo list in the afternoon kinda exploded as ppl got back to me (and I decided _today_ was a good day to wipe a machine and upgrade it. I should prob learn ansible...)
<cr1901_modern>
(The self-feedback register in at least the OPM manual says the maximum phase offset is 4*pi... tbh, I have no idea how the Yamaha ppl got that number, and maybe mapping the Yamaha chip internals to the phase mod equation will help me answer that)
<cr1901_modern>
Also, the YM2151 player I linked yesterday... it sold out already. :o
<cr1901_modern>
I don't remember who asked but... the player plays s98, MDX, and VGM files
Stilett0-away is now known as Stilett0
<m4t>
whoa that guys twitter is filled with cool stuff
<fseidel>
Oh man, I saw that place a few months ago when I was in Japan
<fseidel>
It's awesome!
<fseidel>
they have a Yamaha FM chip gachapon
<cr1901_modern>
Oh, that's the place with the gacha
<cr1901_modern>
_that's_*
<fseidel>
I got a YM2610
<fseidel>
Was hoping for 2608, but it's luck of the draw
<cr1901_modern>
I have a few YM2610s, but the power requirements are such that I don't feel comfortable powering from USB, so I haven't used them much
<cr1901_modern>
(not to mention they require an external (D)RAM and use a weird DIP form factor)

<andlabs>
oh that reminds me
<andlabs>
using Eagle itself gives me much more useful BOMs
<andlabs>
especially since a different file I have is the old binary format that kicad can't handle and pcb-rnd or whatever it was called doesn't parse the file correctly
<andlabs>
maybe I will go through with that sfx sound expander clone, but I will need a YM3528 AND a YM2410 (the DAC)
<andlabs>
(the binary-form eagle board is a different project not related to Yamaha sound except that it's related to Genesis)

pokes whitequark
<whitequark>
Sarayan: hi!
<Sarayan>
Hi you, how are you? And did you get the package? The post office tracker says you did
<Sarayan>
(I don't really trust the post office tracker)
<whitequark>
yes, I did! (I thought I already mentioned it here?)
<whitequark>
I haven't even opened it tho, been even more busy than usual
<whitequark>
hopefully soon
<Sarayan>
No problem, this is excellent
<Sarayan>
I must have missed your previous answer, I've been mostly off the internet lately

<andlabs>
and now I know a partlist != a BOM
<andlabs>
boo I need to make a mouser account to upload a BOM
<andlabs>
same with newark
<andlabs>
digikey doesn't like eagle's semicolon-separated values
<andlabs>
arrow doesn't handle it properly
<andlabs>
but it does parse the file at least
<andlabs>
avnet isn't loading
<andlabs>
okay I'm starting to think I'm misisng something
<andlabs>
which doesn't help because I can't find the part numbers I'm getting
<andlabs>
*which* 0.1uF capacitor is "C-EU050-024X044" with package "C050-024X044"?
<andlabs>
*what* is "MA03-1"? the only thing this is saying is that it comes from the eagle library called "con-lstb"

<m4t>
(guessing)
<andlabs>
well I wound up buying a premade thing from a different product entirely
