<andlabs> ValleyBell: I tried two random PC-88 games to see which ACTUALLY use ch3 multifreq mode:
<andlabs> for Cyber Block Metal Orange (Sakimoto sound driver): 11 Info.vgz, 12 Stage 1.vgz, 13 Stage 2.vgz, 14 Stage 3.vgz, 15 Stage 4.vgz, 16 Stage 5.vgz, 17 Clear.vgz, 18 Continue.vgz, 19 Game Over.vgz, 20 Top Entry.vgz, 21 Entry 2-8.vgz, 22 Ending.vgz
<andlabs> and for shits and giggles, I looked in Space Harrier arcade, and two songs do!: 04 Ida.vgz, 11 Lake Side Memory (Ending).vgz
<andlabs> for Ys I (Koshiro sound driver): 14 The Morning Grow.vgz, 15 See You Again.vgz, 19 Temple del Sol.vgz
<andlabs> note that some of these may be false positives; I only checked if any setting had differing frequencies of any sort on the four operators
<andlabs> also none of these games use SSG-EG in the music
<m4t> if you open up the board view in eagle you could get a ballpark idea of what the part should look like :P
<Lord_Nightmare> andlabs: does the titlescreen/attract mode song in gunstar heroes use multifreq mode?
<andlabs> no idea
<andlabs> my script is hardcoded to YM2203 for now
<andlabs> though I guess I could find out
<andlabs> oh
<andlabs> no modding needed
<andlabs> ok
<andlabs> and the answer is: no
<andlabs> Pietros-MBP:packs pietro$ awk -f multifreq.awk Gunstar\ Heroes/02\ -\ Legend\ of\ the\ Gunstars.txt
<andlabs> 48d9 0 0:000 1 0:000 2 0:000 3 4:38F
<andlabs> Pietros-MBP:packs pietro$
<andlabs> no song on the soundrack does
<ValleyBell> Ahh, good to know.
<ValleyBell> The only SMPS-based game that I know uses ch3 multi-freq mode is Ghostbusters.
<fseidel> ValleyBell: ch3 mf mode is pretty uncommon overall, right?
<fseidel> I heard Mega Turrican might it, along with a handful of others, but I've never heard anything definitive about any games using it
<ValleyBell> On the MegaDrive I think it's pretty uncommon.
<ValleyBell> Mega Turrican even uses Ch3 CSM mode, IIRC.
<ValleyBell> so multi-frequency + key on/off via YM2612 timer A
<ValleyBell> Space Harrier 2 uses Ch3 MF mode for drums
<ValleyBell> It's a lot more common on the PC-88/98 I think.
<ValleyBell> But people has to start with a YM2203 there, so they had to find ways to get more voices.
