<vafanlignarde> Interesting.. those registers accessed in the macvdmtool appears to match registers in the TPS65986 technical reference manual. Except for 0x4d (rx status) which is marked as "reserved, not allocated and return a length of 0" in the document i'm reading. :) so cool that you can actually access this stuff from userspace

<marcan> davidrysk[m]: the unlock code is different on Ace1 machines
<marcan> it's the machine ID on newer ones
<marcan> try 'CST1' on older ones
<davidrysk[m]> Ah! I'll try that later
dibas has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<marcan> the mode isn't the M1, it's the local machine
<marcan> all the unlock/Gaid/etc stuff is about the local machine
<marcan> all of that is required to unlock the command that lets you talk to the M1 using Apple debug VDMs
<marcan> (and the command that lets you put the local machine into serial mode too)
<marcan> DBMa is further required for the debug VDMs to work
<marcan> vafanlignarde: yes, this is all (mostly) documented, just not the actual commands
<marcan> Apple uses customized firmware but the core is the same
<davidrysk[m]> yes, I was trying to run it on the T2 to see if I could use it to talk to the M1 machine
<marcan> on Intel machines you can find the firmware in their update files and the unlock code should be in the app customization section, it's the first record
<davidrysk[m]> and I assumed that all the commands were about the T2 not the M1
<marcan> I haven't found that yet for the M1 ones, found some firmware but not that section

<davidrysk[m]> marcan: what exactly is "DBMa" mode?
jamadazi has joined #asahi
<Glanzmann> once you found out. Put it here: https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki/Glossary
<marcan> davidrysk[m]: I'm not entirely sure, but it's some kind of alternate operation mode where some features don't work but it lets you send VDMs with the right SOP'DEBUG mode
<marcan> otherwise it doesn't work
<marcan> the command is literally "DBMa"
<davidrysk[m]> huh interesting

<davidrysk[m]> (basically I'm wondering what's different about it on T2)
ephe_meral has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<davidrysk[m]> (T2 has the same chip part number though, so one would assume the OTP is similar, right? who knows)

<davidrysk[m]> marcan: if I comment out the DBMa unlock, the VDM commands don't return error but they also don't seem to do anything
<davidrysk[m]> s/unlock/mode change
<davidrysk[m]> is that the same behavior that you see on M1?
