maz: I'm really curious about your take on the options for the nGnRnE issue, so I can throw something together for v2 :)
<marcan>
thanks for all the reviews so far!

marcan: I haven't had a chance to look into that yet, somebody found a critical bug in one of my series, so I'm scrambling to fix that first! :D
<maz>
marcan: and you're welcome. it's nice to see a small series focusing on the bare minimal.
<marcan>
I do not envy that series; just saw the mails, that thing touches so many corner cases :)
<marcan>
I should also test KASLR on M1 at some point; iBoot already randomizes us in physmem (and m1n1 just adds a constant to that, but then rounds to 2MB), but it would be good to see that proper full KASLR isn't broken on M1 either
<maz>
marcan: yeah, it's interesting stuff. Anyway, I think I nailed the sucker (I could easily reproduce it in a KVM guest...)
<marcan>
nice :)
<maz>
marcan: I've made some good progress on the GICv3 handling, reusing the ThunderX workarounds. I never though that code would be useful again, and I was about to drop it!
<marcan>
hah!
<marcan>
great :D
<marcan>
off to sleep now; I'll let the series simmer a bit more tomorrow while I take care of some other things, then pick back up wednesday (unless I get sniped into looking at it tomorrow...). oh yeah and start working on that serial board :)
<maz>
yeah. Just need to cherry pick a few patches from my rVIC series to drive the VI/VF bits.
<maz>
good night!

<modwizcode>
Honestly I've been trying everything because I'm not happy with what I've been using lol, I saw marcan use Kate and I've been seeing what I like and what I don't
<modwizcode>
Mostly it works pretty well, so far nothing has really solved the annoyances I have properly, Kate would be fine except for like 2 (probably easily changed in code) "features" that get in the way :p
acelogic has joined #asahi
<modwizcode>
Kate's file navigation and not being able to move panes between different sides of split window is a huge pain, but editing projects with a lot of hierarchy (like QEMU) sucks a lot in VS code and is slightly better in Kate.
<modwizcode>
overall QEMU is a pain to work on because some includes are generated (or moved) at build time so anything more complex than ctags for referencing symbols freaks out.

new discovery: nGnRE writes to MMIO are not silently blackholed. They raise a SError. The only reason we didn't know that before is because at the time I ran into that first, obviously the UART was breaking and SErrors would've never showed up anywhere - and then corellium's dumb not-a-real-chicken-bit poke to mask those SErrors was hiding this all.
<JTL>
Interesting...
<never_released>
marcan: oh yeah crlm turned those off
<never_released>
I wonder why they masked SErrors too, macOS never does that
