<shine|meeting>
you can see how to connect a LCD (LVDS) to cubie
<shine|meeting>
to attach a normal signals LCD is similar (more connections are required)
<shine|meeting>
for touch you have to use or the in-build 4 wire resistive touch to relative 4 U14 pins
<shine|meeting>
or to use one of supported I2C touch pannels
<shine|meeting>
I'm trying to use a USB touch however
<MrBar>
RGB more common displays
<MrBar>
i can't find any LVDS on ebay

how about script.fex? what it is? it configuration file for kernel of for boot loader (uboot)? it runtime configuration or compilation needet?
<wooy>
MrBar: yeah its script to boot kernel
<wooy>
see fex2bin and bin2fex tools
<MrBar>
script to boot kernel?
<n01>
nope ... script.fex it is just a special DTB
<n01>
it is used to pass parameters to kernel at boot-time
<wooy>
yep the more precise answer, but better yet, script.fex is used to configure environment variables before booting kernel
<MrBar>
DTB? environment variables?
tinti has joined #cubieboard
<MrBar>
uboot set up environment variables from script.bin then boot kernel, kernel drivers reads environment variables and setup hardware? right?
<wooy>
MrBar: power up -> uboot sets default env.vars -> imports script.bin vars to environment -> passing some env vars as parameters to kernel -> ...
<MrBar>
pass in kernel line parameters?
<wooy>
the funny thing is, that an env. var may also contain command, thats why script.bin contains only key-value pairs but we call it "script"
<wooy>
MrBar: yes
<MrBar>
better name for this file is hardware_parameters.txt but thanks in any way
tinti has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<n01>
wooy: actually AFAIR the parameters are not passed to kernel but the fex is loaded in memory and kernel read directly from that memory location
chihchun is now known as chihchun_afk
<MrBar>
afaik uboot setup hardware from binflex and kernel read harware parameters from hardware directly
<wooy>
oh boy, did I just switch uEnv.txt with script.bin? Yeah i did, MrBar will be so confused

Martix has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<n01>
MrBar: nope, as matter of fact you have in kernel API to read the fex file loaded in memory
<MrBar>
this is cubi kernel related stuff?
<n01>
yes

this from linux-sunxi project that reverse engineered from original ROM?
<Mantichora>
I compiled xbmc for my cubie and now try to play some videos. All videos got a blue or red cast. The preview pictures are normal. Any ideas?
<tinti>
I have already seen someone complaining about that on G+ community
shineworld has joined #cubieboard
<ssvb>
Mantichora: are just the colors wrong and everything else is fine, or you also see pixelated artifacts?
<Mantichora>
Everything else is fine I think. The video source is not the best...
<Mantichora>
But pictures and the frontend looks good without any artifacts
<ssvb>
if this still does not help to fix wrong colors, please check if the problem is related to one of the videos
<Mantichora>
Hmm... a much bigger problem appears... not using keyboard or mouse for a few minutes -> black screen and nothing happens when I press any buttons
<Mantichora>
*grml*
<ssvb>
looks like the display just enters standby mode (or whatever it is called) and gets blanked
ibot has joined #cubieboard
<Mantichora>
Nope... no standby. Video is playing but no reaction on mouse or keyboard
<ssvb>
just try "echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/disp/graphics/fb0/blank" as a test
<ssvb>
if you have ssh access to the device
<Mantichora>
Hmm... now the colors are normal...
<Mantichora>
But I had to log in to my tty and start xbmc manually. Starting it via rc.local gives me wrong colors
<ssvb>
Mantichora: which is itself problematic and possibly broken
<ssvb>
Mantichora: it is enough to have this video in a directory accessible by xbmc (maybe something goes wrong when cheating a thumbnail for it)
<Mantichora>
Like I said: Starting xbmc via rc.local gives me wrong colors. Starting xbmc "normal" (login as root -> start xbmc) there is no problem
<ssvb>
so you think you have ruled out having any problematic video in your collection of files?
<Mantichora>
Tried Video 3 from RenderingChart
<Mantichora>
One time it works, the other not...
<ssvb>
and "not works" means what?
tinti has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<ssvb>
sorry for being annoying, but just some people claim crashes, some say about blue tint
<Mantichora>
"not works" means blue cast
<ssvb>
I got the blue color problem reproduced, but only when having one certain video file in a directory accessible by xbmc and never without it (when it was removed)
<Mantichora>
It is no matter of any video. Each video even on streams got this problem
<Mantichora>
Looks like I have to start xbmc once and close it. On the second start it works like charme
<ssvb>
yes, all videos play as blue when one certain file is accessible by xbmc
<ssvb>
the freaking xbmc monster is unfortunately doing a lot of activity by itself, like going through the videos and creating thumbnails :(
tinti has joined #cubieboard
<ssvb>
so it may touch the problematic file without you trying to play it
<ssvb>
and maybe in some other cases reuse cached thumbnail or something
<ssvb>
but that's just my theory based on my observations
<ssvb>
of course it may be wrong
<ssvb>
you are free to debug this problem yourself in any way you see appropriate
<Mantichora>
The first test was without any videofile on the machine. So I think my problem is not related to any videofile
<Mantichora>
I played a stream from youtube. Everything was blue but the preview pictures were correctly
wej has joined #cubieboard
<ssvb>
does it happen with any youtube link?
<Mantichora>
Only the next tests were against local videos because it is much faster
<Mantichora>
Yep... even with any other video, videostream and so on
<Mantichora>
Closing xmbc _after_ playing a video an reopen it solves the problem
<ssvb>
ok, thanks, I'll try it

lol, compiling pypy on a cubieboard. Eating 727MB of swap (on a 2.5" SATA HDD). constant 99.8% disk wait. They do warn you not to use swap and to not use the '0' parameter... YOLO
<lunra>
It's been 12h47m XD
<rm>
lunra, should try with "eatmydata"
<rm>
it skips over fsyncs
<rm>
can make some things faster
<rm>
well at least you do it on an HDD
<rm>
I think "do not use swap" was only related to SD cards
