alexgordon ⑊ ;)
<alexgordon>
elliottcable: if in a month I'm making a good profit, I'll ask you if you want to reconsider ;)
<elliottcable>
hm?
<elliottcable>
re-consider what?
<alexgordon>
giving your bitcoins to a random person on the internet
<elliottcable>
oh
<elliottcable>
I'd never give them to a random person on the internet.
<alexgordon>
how many do you have?
<elliottcable>
I'm less worried about your profit (I know your personality, and would expect you to do succesful things), and more about the “random person” quality.
<alexgordon>
"I know your personality, and would expect you to do succesful things" -- yay I'm smart!
<elliottcable>
If, in the extreme unlikelihood that you wished to actually enter into some sort of business agreement, I'd require a hell of a lot more personal information about you, and some face-time (whether I were to visit G.B., or depending on the *volume* of the agreement, perhaps a Skype or FaceTime.) I have zero desire to be scammed by somebody who can simply disappear off into the Internet.
<elliottcable>
Basically: If I enter into a business agreement with Micah, and he rips me off, he needs to change his name (because it's rare), move to change his address, and hope he never sees me at any industry events in the future or similar.
<elliottcable>
For you, you simply need to change your Twitter username and /part the channel, and it's as if you've never existed.
<alexgordon>
lol
<purr>
lol
<alexgordon>
the idea of micah scamming you
<alexgordon>
is funny
<elliottcable>
Common “name” (whether that's even real!), being a continent away, and having no personal information to hold you accountable ...
<elliottcable>
... not to mention that we're preforming the transaction in an unaccountable/unregulated medium like Bitcoin? Becomes a huge deal.
<alexgordon>
you must have a lot of bitcoins if you're this anal about it
<elliottcable>
I was brought up knowing how to deal with money. I can't help that fact. You can't say anything I mentioned is truly ridiculous, though; it's just being a good steward of your own resources.
<alexgordon>
The Alaskan Way™
<alexgordon>
actually I guess the Alaskan Way™ is to whore out your resources
<elliottcable>
That said, I'd be unlikely to “invest” less than fifty BTC. Or, rather, it'd be unlikely for me to both A) be interested-enough in an investement to get involved, and B) *not* interested enough to invest at least 50-100 BTC.
<elliottcable>
food time? food time.
<alexgordon>
elliottcable: yes I understand. I'm smart enough to know people aren't simply going to give me their money ;)
<elliottcable>
I dunno. An entire sector of the economy (scam artists.) monetize the fact that they absolutely *will* “simply [...] give you their money.”
<elliottcable>
I'm an edge-case, not the norm.

Let me know if anybody finds the development-noise annoying.
<elliottcable>
Also, I'll probably set these to use different temporary nicknames, so they're easier to /ignore.

micahjohnston: you were talking a while back about how Tempus on OpenCL might be of limited use because GPUs are SIMD… well, good news for you; new GPUs are basically MIMD
