<caraka>
morning peeps
<fediverse>
morning, GRC world. Do you know what's happening with BOINC project 'World Community Grid' ?
<vega40k>
hello caraka
<caraka>
jacwib does yuor cpid show up in your wallet?
<jacwib>
not yet, just says inverstor so far
<caraka>
once it does, you need to send a beacon to start staking
<caraka>
it can take a day after first sync
<vega40k>
caraka: my cpid is fine and sync and everything is fine . but zero mag
<caraka>
it's a slow peocess getiing set up
<caraka>
vega40k: I sometimes drop my mag too. A restsrt or occasionally the next superblock sort it
<vega40k>
ok
<jacwib>
how do i remove a project? i decided i didnt wanna do gpu stuff...
<caraka>
all boinc stuff needs to be managed by the boinc manager
<jacwib>
ok
<caraka>
YOur wallet and your boinc do not talk directly to each other

well i forgot to say, i meant in boincstatsbam

<jacwib>
well i do have a 970, so not using it is sorta dumb, but my pc is a shitty prebuilt with a horrible fan, so under pretty much any load it goes up to 70's, and heavy is in the 90's

this
<Chick3nman>
sounds like its not planning on you to have an ass ton of RAM
<Chick3nman>
Let us take one of our concrete parameters as an example.Letn= 144;k= 5, i.e. we suggest finding 32-XOR on144 bits. A straightforward implementation of the generalizedbirthday algorithm would require 1.6 GBytes of RAM andabout 1 minute of a single CPU core. Recomputing the hashvalues for the first two steps and truncating the indices to8 bits at the last two steps, we can decrease the
<Chick3nman>
they only ever talk about increasing the workload by reducing memory when they talk aobut the trade off attacks for this algorithm
<Chick3nman>
not the other way around
<Chick3nman>
you could theortically reduce workloads incredibly
<customminer>
Ok, so 1.6GB per core? 48 -> 76.8GB, not too crazy..
<Chick3nman>
assuming you had enough RAM
<Chick3nman>
thats stock
<Chick3nman>
if you had 16gb of ram per core, you could run a magnitude faster
<Chick3nman>
so
<Chick3nman>
it could theoretically be FAR faster
<Chick3nman>
assuming fast ram access
<Chick3nman>
on a high ram machine
<Chick3nman>
if you made your own client
<Chick3nman>
they bottleneck is magnitudes of RAM
<Chick3nman>
per working thread
<Chick3nman>
still, on that same CPU, it would take what, 60% time to complete with the next expanded amount of ram on a single thread
<Chick3nman>
meaning people like me who have GPUS with 12gb of VRAM
<Chick3nman>
may be able to trade of far more effectively

than others

The advantages between GPU vs CPU for mining Zcash is referenced in this Equihash paper in section VI.b45. It's roughly estimated that GPU miners will effectively speed up the mining process by 4x in comparison to CPU mining. However this estimate does not take into account High Bandwidth Memory GPUs, that may have much more competitive advantage than anticipated
