<RTMoney_> All just another pump, don't get too excited we will settle on a price floor again, this time likely above 800 Satoshi, every time we get one of these our floor goes up a little
<RTMoney_> Thing is most GRC holders are very long term holders so the float (coins available for sale) is low
<RTMoney_> So it makes it easy for someone to come in with some relatively small orders (in the grand scheme of things) and create a lot of price action in the short term:-)
<RTMoney_> The people who hop on every hot coin eventually dump and that is when you see that long flat consolidation line, I actually tweeted a while ago about the price floor

<ravon> Peppernrino: It’s a cheap hub from Aliexpress. You never know how stuff from there are going to behave, or which standards they follow.
<Peppernrino> oh. racism.
<Peppernrino> fuck that.
<Peppernrino> china makes everything.
<ravon> For example, it claims to be USB 3.0. It actually contains two hubs, one 3.0 and one 2.0

<ravon> No idea why

Thorge has joined #gridcoin
<NeuralMiner> if they force a password reset... that's gonna suck.
<RoyalPhay> wow
<Thorge> Hey Guys, can someone please explain the spike in price since the 7th?
<customminer> You wouldn't need to force a password reset, but a big problem is that users since it's hard coded into the BOINC client, you would need users to upgrade their client. Many BOINC users use very old versions of BOINC.
<RoyalPhay> so. I found a social security card on the ground.
<RoyalPhay> found the person and gave it to them
<RoyalPhay> hardly a thanks :I
<customminer> NeuralMiner: You could also slowly migrate users from the old password hashing mechanism to the new mechanism when they log into the project.
<RoyalPhay> ayyyy America
<customminer> Thorge: Users are leaving BTC & finding better alternatives? :P
<NeuralMiner> i guess as long as weak auth key doesnt change it wouldnt be TOO bad.
<customminer> Maybe worth removing/nerfing the account auth key though, it's OP in its current state.
<Thorge> @customminer haha, nice try ;)
<Thorge> customminer there hase to be a reason
<Bouowmx> Speculative bubble
<Bouowmx> idk
<NeuralMiner> i'm not sure why they have an account key besides account recovery. weak auth should be more than enough.

<RTMoney_> Cure and Folding coin can be merge mined
<RoyalPhay> I am. kind. :I
<RoyalPhay> I guess
<RoyalPhay> maybe.
<RTMoney_> I mined them for a while to see how things were, the setup was easier but there were a lot of steps
<Thorge> customminer thank you ;)
<RTMoney_> And they both rely on a central issuing/rewarding authority, its kind of like one giant pps pool
<RTMoney_> good science though, and F@H is much easier to setup than BOINC
<mrtrousers> We should integrate folding
<RTMoney_> we totally could
<RTMoney_> the NN can handle any project that publishes a measurement of work
<mrtrousers> I think it be great. People like folding, it was my first experience with distributed computing
<mrtrousers> Anyway, do you all think POS is better than POW for gridcoin?
<NeuralMiner> it'd be an interesting addition.
<mrtrousers> Foldingcoin and curecoin, have stuck to sha..
<Bouowmx> Maybe the SHA-256 hashing exists for Bitcoin miners to easily migrate?
shadowlink125 has joined #gridcoin
<mrtrousers> to where?
<apc> I like POW, but I hold nothing. cryptominers of the world unite! :D
<RTMoney_> Gridcoin was PoW the first year
<mrtrousers> Yea, its just reading about pos, the need for checkpoints, and when there is no consensus..
<shadowlink125> Hi guys, I have my boinc data path in another location, and I'm trying to change it with no luck. There's nothing I can see in the wallet to change it (that's really bad honestly). I've tried changing it in the config with boincdatadir=F:\\ProgramData\\BOINC but that doesn't seem to work
<RTMoney_> we switched to PoS/PoR gained a huge energy efficiency, the wasted hashes went to real research
<mrtrousers> I agree in that.
<mrtrousers> Yet my concern:
<RTMoney_> we don't have checkpoints
<mrtrousers> uses centrally broadcast checkpoints (signed under the developer's private key). No blockchain reorganization is allowed deeper than the last known checkpoints. The tradeoff is that the developer is the central authority controlling the blockchain.
Thorge has quit [Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client]
<mrtrousers> Cool
<RTMoney_> we got rid of checkpoints about a year ago
<Bouowmx> shadowlink125: what isn't working?
<NeuralMiner> shadowlink125, when you open up the debug in the gridcoin wallet and do "list cpids", nothing shows up?
<mrtrousers> THen how it goes when theres no consensus in the blockchain?
<RTMoney_> That can cause problems syncing to the network if your computer has a time that is more than 5 minutes from the network consensus time though
<reddy1975> !cpid 6e22d722d4f2a68b69b1de8bae5a92f3

<shadowlink125> No cpids come up when i type list cpids in console
FifthGB has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<mrtrousers> If there are no checkpoints which system is used?
<RTMoney_> we have a small PoW hash where your probability of finding a block is based on research contribution and stake, so effectively the more you are owed the lower your difficulty for finding the hash
<NeuralMiner> shadowlink125, you need a double slash at the end.

<caraka> yes you can
<slimeball> change the sweeden one
<slimeball> to france
<caraka> that will please them, no doubrt
<slimeball> i use native boinc , i prolly could... its bitching about binary versions on adding project.. it should get the binarys and config then
<Mercosity> Irish, jeez now that'd be a disaster. Wouldn't stop 'em jabbering.
<apc> yeah, those damn mcs
<caraka> #gridcoin-irish?
<Mercosity> yup
<caraka> I like it!
<slimeball> but its just jacked up , its kinda 2/3 turned apart... i want to make it a bluetooth controled 8 inch picture frame for pictures but in backround crunching boinc and full blown machine
<slimeball> ha
<customminer> lol
<Mercosity> Sry gotta pop out for some more turf.
<caraka> to be sure, an Irish channel would be great. Low taxes, great pubs
<slimeball> oh but enigma runs and took all 4 cores
<slimeball> wtf seti
<slimeball> and roseta and astroids
<Mercosity> Guiness!
<caraka> sometimes boinc will do that to balance the work slimeball
<slimeball> it wants me to waste my best android ( basiicly quad gpu ) on that
<slimeball> na not this
<caraka> runour has it that enigma is one of the most productive for android
<apc> seti says no work available in BAM
<slimeball> damn i killed the notices removing the project
<apc> odd for seti to say that so I question it
<slimeball> yes enigma is great yada but i have had astroids/roseta/seti and seti beta sitting idle for 3 days no WU's
<slimeball> id get errors for the apps
<slimeball> ima just try again
<slimeball> its 2nd time , i ignored the errors... but so i use native boinc , im sure i can edit... or find a text editor
<slimeball> thing is , screens broken
<slimeball> :)
<apc> I'd check the project page but I'm in a tiny little vnc window atm :D
<slimeball> kinda like i have a phone running enigma... only reason it runs is becauuse boinc can control it... i cant edit shit... its strait hard wired and no screen
<apc> so I could... but I don't wanna
<slimeball> i dont see a reason to check seti
<slimeball> its just that tablet
<slimeball> every other tablet/phone/laptop /desktop is fine
<slimeball> lol
<apc> ok so yah bam is wrong
<slimeball> 4 android devices so :)
<slimeball> bam?
<apc> boinc account manager
<slimeball> oh wait yes yours issue above
<apc> I'm moving my box here at work to just seti, so I was looking at it
<slimeball> seti says no work
<Mercosity> i took it all
<slimeball> fuck is there server stats
<slimeball> heh

<Mercosity> oops.
<slimeball> stats for beta
<slimeball> says v8 is not running and sob that was my error was something to only seti v8 binary
<slimeball> herm , cant add either back
<slimeball> but mmight be the tablet , and its need a restart of boinc... native boinc seems to do that
<Peppernrino> v8 audio
<slimeball> and they need a new version soon , boinc has a newer version 2 newer i believe now
<customminer> cool :)

<slimeball> where projects are thinking of adding a default small order of work load limit
<slimeball> and more advanced users , like those whom config projects cpu/gpu
<slimeball> can enable higher work unit download amount
<slimeball> so its not like some new guy downloads 100 work units and never runs them
<slimeball> it may be 5

<slimeball> oh so , hay , if chics on facebook can use instagram as a modeling agency or chaterbait can crunchers use their projects? I mean there are many fields... Could be like I studied as an internet based consultant for the University of California. While working with Berkeley daily tasks involved processing work units on Berkeley's vast computer super computer grid with worktime provided by The
<slimeball> Allen Teleschope Array , The Arecibo Observatory and The Green Bank Telescope for the last 6 years. I then I switched interests and moved my consulting to be based with Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. While my short 6 month stay I was a consultant on two very important world issues , zika and ebola and worked day and night crunching for the cure... After 6 months my heart was not into
<slimeball> it so I moved consulting back to the University of California where are faction of my interests are focused. I think I would be a perfect candidate for any future shuttle mission and appreciate NASA's consideration and thank you for your time. - slimeball
