<freezer>
hi
<freezer>
wondering why Pi4 performance is about the same as Pi3?
<freezer>
is it because we still lack things like mainline kernel support?
<Disconsented>
performance in what way?
<freezer>
well it says "In this initial release 1080p playback behaviour and performance on the 4B are broadly on-par with the previous 3B/3B+ model"
<freezer>
in the 9.2.x release notes
<Disconsented>
H264 or HEVC?
<Disconsented>
H264 should be identical, HEVC is a different story
<freezer>
not sure if "performance" means just 1080p playback, or also UI snappyness etc
<Disconsented>
Pi4b might have different requirements but its quite clear to me how much faster the pi4 is. HEVC runs like a dream even on a early libreelec release and how much more fluid the UI is
<freezer>
oh nice, guess i have to try it then
<freezer>
do i need a fan/heatsink for consistent performance?
<freezer>
only got the official case right now
<Disconsented>
Yep
<Disconsented>
It really needs active cooling at around 22c ambient for me
<freezer>
can you recommend a case/fan?
<freezer>
and does it make it loud?
<Disconsented>
Nope sorry
<Disconsented>
I had a friend 3D print a case
<Disconsented>
and I had a spare USB fan I use when it needs cooling

would it be possible to create a new main category or tweak somehow the "music" category to just show "media sources" rather than the "scan new source to library"
<Gh0sty>
I don't want my music to be scanned to library as there is so much music thats not going to be able to index (mixes and such)
<Gh0sty>
under "pictures" you just have a listing of "media sources", I want the same for music ... but annoyingly as you don't scan anything to library it stays on "scan a new source to library" view there...
<Gh0sty>
so for selecting my music I now need to click music -> navigate to files -> pick the media source ...

<oblikoamorale>
that looks like a kodi ui skin question rather than LE, you'll probably have more luck asking in more appropriate places
<oblikoamorale>
I seem to remember having to select 'Files' first too, but isn't it a one time thing
<Gh0sty>
no each time you go there you need to go again through the whole clickety thingy
<oblikoamorale>
hmm, that's unfortunate then. I'll try toying with it later

Gh0sty: if you don't want to hack the skin, adding your music files to Favorites would save some clicks. Or, if you want to spend some time and do it "right" you could create .nfo files and artwork.

mack thats just the thing... that can never be scanned to library
<Gh0sty>
there is just too much stuff that can't be indexed in there :P
<Gh0sty>
mixes, samples, cuts, stuff thats just in no way ever going to get scanned proper, left alone that it has artwork ;p
<Gh0sty>
yeah could add it to favorites, but would like to have that specific folder under my the music menu entry
<Gh0sty>
or if I could add a menu entry "mymusic" that just contains a link to my music folder or something :p

<mack->
I didn't say that wouldn't be a lot of work :) It took me more hours than I care to count to get the NFO and artwork just right for my couple of dozen mixes and concerts. It did get easier toward the end, as I figured things out.
