<davu>
you have to seperate your files from movies and tvshows as that can't be in the same folder
<davu>
and you have to name them correctly
<davu>
and so on. I guess there's some work on your side to be done to work with Kodi properly.
<davu>
If you only want a player on a RPi, then I would suggest to use a smartphone app to controll Kodi (instead of the webinterface) and use the file mode
<davu>
but then you are missing one of the best features Kodi provides (the library)
<elektirnis>
hm
<elektirnis>
so I can't just torrent everything to one folder and then just select files from list to watch?
<davu>
sure, you can
<elektirnis>
separating movies from tv shows is a lot of work
<davu>
but then you are using Kodi in file mode
<davu>
and are missing the best feature Kodi provides.
<elektirnis>
especially if I also use kodi as torrent device
<davu>
no covers, no fanart, no fancy interface
<davu>
just a list of files
<davu>
I won't give much support on how Kodi should be used by downloading stolen stuff
<davu>
that's up to you
<elektirnis>
no one said about syolen.
<davu>
but it's up to me what I support or not ;)
<davu>
well, if you download movies by torrents you haven't bought, then we don't need to discuss what that is
<elektirnis>
anyway it scraped the whole folder and identified 1 movie.
<davu>
yeah, as said. Read the wiki above
<elektirnis>
I click on it, the screen flickers and nothing.
<davu>
1. don't use the webIF to controll Kodi. That's overkill anyway. There are a bunch of smartphone apps which can be used for that
<elektirnis>
and if something is named incorrectly, it's not presented at all...
<davu>
correct
<davu>
that's how our scrapers do work
<davu>
read the wiki
<elektirnis>
I'm on local screen now
<davu>
if some video fails to play, get me a log
<elektirnis>
no way to force scraper to also list what it failed to identify?
<davu>
there's the Kodi eventlog at the settings section
<davu>
that should at least list failed scans for movie
<davu>
*movies
<davu>
But as said, I highly recommend to put your movies in seperated folders and name then correctly in the way they are named on tmdb
<davu>
mostly torrented stuff has a bunch of unneeded things in a filename
<elektirnis>
I see there's a menu entry "Videos"
<davu>
what?
<davu>
you mean at the home screen?
<elektirnis>
yes
<davu>
yes, you can add your sources from there
<davu>
have you already read the wiki?
<elektirnis>
is this for "files mode"?
<davu>
My suggestion was to read the wiki? I guess it might take hours to understand what's in there. Please do what I suggest. I won't repeat myself a couple of times, tbh ;)
<davu>
have you ever used Kodi before?
<davu>
no biggie if not
<elektirnis>
okok. I see now that Kodi is not what I need.
<elektirnis>
I want to have a shared folder on the network, where I can save the .torrent file. Then Kodi would download the torrent to /Downloads. That folder would be accessible over network to watch on any device, and would also appear on kodi.
<davu>
as said, I don't give support on anything about torrent
<elektirnis>
so what else do people use kodi for? ;)
<elektirnis>
no one wants to keep or manage movie "collections". Movie is a one-time-use kind of thing.
<davu>
I have a NAS where I have all my bought movies ripped to. I set up a nice library to have my local movies available on any Kodi instance I have at home. All presented in a nice interface which Kodi provides by setting up a libraray
<davu>
that's what Kodi is for

<elektirnis>
too bad, very narrow use case :(
<davu>
that's your opinion

<elektirnis>
which is not wrong..
<davu>
havne't said so
<davu>
but that's what Kodi is for
<davu>
Kodi is not for managing your downloads
<elektirnis>
the idea of people "owning" movies and managing their libraries was what bankrupted the RCA with their videoDisk some time ago.
<davu>
Kodi is able to play your downloaded files. But if you need a player only and want to delete the files afterwards (after watching) then you can use any kind of player which any OS on that device you are using provides
<davu>
Simply install windows on that or Linux and use the standard player software
<davu>
Kodi isn't meant for you in that case
<elektirnis>
yes I get it now.
