atsampson: for the "pcDuino3 Nano, JEDEC timings, 528MHz, DCDC3=1.325V (board #2)" configuration we are getting all the same diagonal stripe of unreliability and two disconnected areas

hi
<pirea>
i have a problem with sata connection on cubieboard
<NiteHawk>
hmmm. maybe an issue of drive speed auto-negotiation failing?
<sehraf>
i have no idea ... all i can say is that it started when i switch to mainline kernel

does anyone know how to get rid of -dirty in kernel version string?
<topi`>
i.e. I have 3.18.0-dirty and I need to get rid of dirty
linux_salonica has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<topi`>
because the modules went to /lib/modules/3.18.0
<topi`>
sigh

topi`: check if CONFIG_LOCALVERSION="" is different in your kernel config
<topi`>
yeah, I found dirty in scripts/ directory and found out it's being used when there are uncommitted diffs
<topi`>
I did a git reset --hard HEAD and there ya go
<NiteHawk>
http://pastebin.com/Xc1MYnuT - that's what i get when hotplugging a sdd on banana pi (A20). it goes straight to 3.0G (SATA2). however, that's with kernel 3.4.103. your 1.5G indicates SATA1 speed (which may be perfectly ok and not necessarily an indicator of trouble)

pirea: if the dram controller is choked, then none of the driver optimizations can help you
<ssvb>
pirea: the problem is fixed/workarounded in recent u-boot releases, but also needs the 'scaler' mode enabled in the fex file if you are using the sunxi-3.4 kernel
<ssvb>
pirea: and the mainline kernel with simplefb should be working fine out of the box
<pirea>
ssvb mainline kernel have video output? :)
<pirea>
i tried it but hdmi doesn't work

pirea: just basic framebuffer, but nothing like hardware video decoding acceleration yet
<pirea>
yes
<pirea>
:X
<pirea>
i will try now archlinux with mainline kernel
<ssvb>
you need the latest and greatest 3.19 kernel with recent mainline u-boot too
<pirea>
ssvb u-boot git?
<ssvb>
u-boot v2015.01 should be fine
<ssvb>
but u-boot v2015.04 (-rc2) additionally supports EDID for HDMI and LCD displays
<ssvb>
there is no final u-boot v2015.04 release yet
