Hello I'm planning to convert the stretch headless image to desktop use with A20 Banana PI
<Sakami>
But I saw "No hardware accelerated video decoding" on the download page
<KotCzarny>
wrong channel, go to #armbian
<KotCzarny>
or better forums
<Sakami>
Well thanks, but generally I'm asking if libvdpau-sunxi works on mainline kernel
<KotCzarny>
for a20, yes
<Sakami>
KotCzarny: Many thanks, this is valuable infomation
<KotCzarny>
though via cedrus lib
<Sakami>
KotCzarny: So the functionality is not the same as legacy kernel?
<Sakami>
(for A20)
<KotCzarny>
hmm, i might have lied a bit
clemens3 has joined #linux-sunxi
hipboi_ has quit [Quit: This computer has gone to sleep]
<KotCzarny>
according to the codec matrix it should work
<KotCzarny>
maybe it's only for legacy kernel
<KotCzarny>
since mainline effort only works on a13
<KotCzarny>
eh, info is a mess
<KotCzarny>
btw. you are using legacy or mainline kernel?
<Sakami>
KotCzarny: Thank you, I'm reading the Cedrus/libvdpau-sunxi wiki page
<Sakami>
KotCzarny: I'm planning to use the mainline kernel (4.13?)

tkaiser, GigE over *pin headers*? I.E. completely uncontrolled impedance lines? Yeah, good luck with that, FA.
<willmore>
miasma, what continent are you on? If you're in NA, I would be glad to print you cases.
<miasma>
willmore: the problem was solved already, gonna get the cases soon. just wanted to mention that the specs are a bit problematic
<willmore>
Understood. The offer stands. If anyone here is in NA, I'll gladly print you cases.
<KotCzarny>
i want a pony!
<willmore>
I have conductive ABS as well, so they're actually electrically protective.
<willmore>
KotCzarny, I can print you a case for a small pony, I guess.... :P

lvrp16, there was some talk of a63 yesterday, but nothing exciting. The takeaway was that it was the companion to the H6 as the A64 is to the H5.
<KotCzarny>
btw. is that conductive abs good as interference barrier?
<willmore>
KotCzarny, no, I don't think it's a good enough conductor for RF shielding purposes. Just for static.
<KotCzarny>
uhum
<willmore>
I.e. it's MOhm/cm, not mOhm/cm.
<willmore>
You wouldn't want to try to print circuits with it.
<willmore>
Unless you're into subthreshold logic, but we're a rare lot.

willmore: hmm could be interesting for non-pc use cases
<willmore>
lvrp16, yeah, it's already out in a tablet (which is the target market for the A series chips, IIRC) and it makes sense there. I'd still wish it wasn't missing USB3.
<willmore>
Not having GigE is fine for a tablet. Also, PCI-E isn't something that they need. Omitting USB3, though solidly puts it in the low priced tablet market.

I hope we can find out what the companion battery PMIC for AXP805 are
<BenG83>
and maybe use that for a new PB board
<lvrp16>
willmore: i was thinking the same, it really limits the use case in situations where you need usb 3.0
<BenG83>
do we know what AXP is used with A63?
<willmore>
lvrp16, I was thinking more of market segmentation. If Allwinner wants to break out of the bargin bin tablet market, that's a baseline feature they'll need. They've already got four good cores and the rest of the normal stuff (3GB, etc.). But they chose to leave off the only thing they really needed.
<willmore>
Maybe that's just not a market segment they want to be in.
* willmore
shrugs
<BenG83>
they could do away with that BU segmentation too and all the overhead that comes with it :P
<lvrp16>
willmore: i was hoping they had usb 3.0 with displayport alternate mode
<willmore>
BenG83, oh, yeah, good luck with that. :)
<lvrp16>
willmore: kind of like my note 8 plug in desktop
<willmore>
I love the idea of docking tablets and phones.
