>> about time to stand up and fight for continued 2G service << Heh... Even in fairly urban place, I can easily find places where only 3G (maybe 4G, don't care) exists, not 2G. Their only reply was switching on National Roaming over different operators (free of charge, courteously enough), which wasn't helpful enough
<DocScrutinizer05>
if I were to organize that stuff, I had added a requirement to support 2G as a fallback for the next 30 years at least
<DocScrutinizer05>
"to get re-evaluated when there's evidence that a better cheaper solution compatible with all usecases is available and widely deployed, and replacement of legacy 2G technology by such newer technology is feasible and will be 150% financed by those who are interested in and benefiting from such discontinuation of 2G support"

I mean, they could reduce the number of concurrently available channels per cell, from several hundred to maybe 8, thus saving bandwidth and resources. But completely discontinuing 2G is outright idiotic in my book

lots of talk about lorawan here currently
<Wizzup>
(not necessarily in mobiles)
<DocScrutinizer05>
never heard of it before, sounds 'interesting'
