<mangix> stintel: that thing looks massive
<stintel> what thing >
<mangix> firebox
<stintel> it is
<stintel> it's 1U rackmount
<stintel> want it ?
<mangix> how many arms for it? :)
<stintel> arms ?
<mangix> it's a joke
<dorf> and legs..
<mangix> expensive stuff require an arm and a leg
<stintel> I wrote on my expense
<stintel> if you're in EU and it's feasible to send it without insane shipping costs and possible import taxes ...
<mangix> i'm not in EU unfortunately.
<stintel> are you interested?
<stintel> maybe sending it as gift will avoid those taxes
<stintel> and it wouldn't even be a lie
<stintel> I got it off ebay hoping I'd be able to get it done myself
<stintel> but I'm too dumb to get it to work, and I also lack the time
<mangix> you want openwrt on it?
<stintel> yes
<stintel> I have it, it boots, but network interfaces don't work
<mangix> what driver does it use?
Nick_Lowe has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<stintel> and I have the craziest crashes too
<mangix> huh. is that first port a serial port?
<stintel> yes
<mangix> neat.
<stintel> like almost all enterprise network hw, console is via RJ45
<stintel> mangix: https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/staging/stintel.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/m200
<stintel> it's a mess :P
<stintel> oh, that even includes the musl hack to disable altivec instructions
<stintel> I think it's fancy hardware, mostly supported by upstream kernel, which is why I decided to give it a go
<stintel> but I tend to get into things that are over my head
<mangix> that musl hack looks questionable
<stintel> of course
<stintel> I asked in #musl, still waiting for a proper fix
<stintel> because nobody knows
<stintel> it's the proper fix for this hardware
<stintel> because it simply doesn't do those instructions
<stintel> but it should be made conditional
<stintel> which I don't know how to do
<stintel> start to get why I want to donate the hardware? :)
<mangix> nobody knows meaning they didn't write the code?
<stintel> people asked around, if anybody knew how to properly fix it
<stintel> discussion died
<stintel> and half a year later it's still 'broken'
<mangix> that is amusing
<mangix> did you try glibc?
<stintel> I don't care about glibc
<mangix> OK
* mangix wonders why it's in the tree
<stintel> because arc
<mangix> arc does not use glibc
<mangix> nothing does
<stintel> since when?
<stintel> if nothing does, it's time to nuke glibc
<mangix> arc uses uClibc-ng
<mangix> which felix wants to nuke
<mangix> and replace with glibc
<stintel> oh
<mangix> which will break almost every package
<stintel> I'm all in favor of nuking uClibc
<stintel> *and* glibc
<stintel> and anything that doesn't work with musl can fuck off
<mangix> ARC is the big problem there
<stintel> well they promised solutions
<stintel> years ago
<stintel> maybe it's time to tell them goodbye
<stintel> does anything even use that arch?
<mangix> no. just development boards.
<stintel> easy then
<stintel> nuke it and go on with life
<stintel> they can come back when they are musl compatible
<mangix> git grep \!arc | wc -l
<mangix> 11
<mangix> that's in the packages feed
<stintel> I mean, look at us, we didn't even manage to get a 20.* release yet
<stintel> holding on to crap like arc doesn't help at all
<stintel> we should just nuke arc, glibc, all those corner cases
finsternis has joined #openwrt-devel
<mangix> I agree
<pkgadd> although to be fair, arc isn't the (nor even 'a' reason) for the delays in 20.xy.0 - that doesn't imply that I'd care about arc, I don't
<stintel> just the fact we have anything other than musl takes away focus
<stintel> it should just be nuked
<stintel> feel free to send a patch series to nuke all that crap, I'll gladly ack it
<mangix> to be fair, synopsis does post kernel bumps and whatnot on the mailing list
<stintel> it will also take away discussions like "it build with glibc" or "i tested it with uclibc"
<mangix> no solutions for musl though
<stintel> kernel bumps are mostly automated, not good enough
<mangix> stintel: I don't think builds with x is a concern. there are a fair amount of packages that do not build
<mangix> until I started fixing them.
<mangix> wow this device has all ethernet ports as separate interfaces?
<stintel> that's what I hoped initially
<stintel> but it doesn't
<mangix> looks like 3 interfaces from reading the DTS
<stintel> or at least that's how I understand it
adrianschmutzler has quit [Quit: ~ Trillian - www.trillian.im ~]
<mangix> speed = <2500>;
<mangix> uhhhh, 2.5gbps?
Misanthropos has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<stintel> yep
<stintel> soc -> switch = 2500 Mbps iirc
<mangix> how old is this device?
<stintel> ~5y ?
<mangix> ah just saw the year
<mangix> 2014
<mangix> I think before the 20.x branch I should get the multi cpu DSA patch in here.

<shibboleth> kmod-wil6210 seems to have disappeared as an option in menuconfig?
<Hauke> shibboleth: for me it is compiling fine
<Hauke> I think we never had wil6210
<shibboleth> yes,i spotted several "red" errors during compile but it did go through after purging the local clone
<shibboleth> make clean/git reset/git clean did not work
<shibboleth> but, less than a month ago wil6210 was an option and now it seems to have gone poof
<shibboleth> the firmware is there, kmod not so much
matteo| is now known as matteo
<shibboleth> anyone have a copy of master, care to do a make menuconfig and see if kmod-wil6210 is there under kmod->wireless?

<shibboleth> ah, 8eeb57acb75f9d89abed59595de052dba9fed7b8 again
<shibboleth> why was it explicitly disabled?
<damex> shibboleth: checked master and it is not there.
<shibboleth> damex, thanks. yeah, that commit has me wondering
<shibboleth> is it safe to patch it or is there a specific reason why nbd "blacklisted" it?
<shibboleth> or is git log playing with me again?

<nbd> shibboleth: i "blacklisted" it?
<nbd> i can't find any commit where we ever packaged it
<shibboleth> nbd, yeah, git log was playing with me, 3b1fa12cb9546eb29a9245968daddcdc6be4c27f was being shown as a split under 8eeb57acb75f9d89abed59595de052dba9fed7b8
<nbd> heh, commit from 2013
<shibboleth> indeed
<nbd> it wasn't packaged then, that commit just disables building unpackaged code...

<philipp64> jow: what does `ip rule add from x.x.x.x table nnn` look like in /etc/config/network? I can’t get it to work. bug?
<philipp64> should just take `option src x.x.x.x` and `option lookup nnn` but that’s not adequate it seems.

<stintel> maybe we can make an OpenWrt leaderboard :)

<karlp> rr123: I find hte performance to be a big change actually, even just as far as usability goes, even if it's "only" for config
<karlp> I fully agree, the beginnings of doing thins in js have eeb hairy for peopleused to the other ways, but I'm generally happy now.
<karlp> the most black magic bits are maybe hte menu.json and acl.d stuff
<karlp> you can still keep doing lua controllers though, and lua templates, they're still easier for somet things.
<karlp> but just having all the js apis in place actually made lots of lua custom controller stuff drop away for me at least.
<karlp> I eally don't like the "construcing html via chained E() calls, I think that's horrific, but you can still do "views" that are html first, and just don't expect to do inline lua, and htat's pretty fair tradeoff
