<jcowan> I still use a flip phone. Why not? I don't need to carry around a computer; I'm never more than about 30 minutes from where I can get Internet access.
<jcowan> And it's military-grade, so basically it will never break no matter what is done (except once when I cracked the screen by closing it on my keys).

<aeth> jcowan: I rarely use my phone as a phone, my phone is just a portable Firefox machine, basically.
<jcowan> Whereas I use my phone 80% as a phone, 18% as a watch, 2% for receiving (almost never sending) texts, and 0% anything else, because it can't do anything else.
<aeth> My phone is very useful if I need documentation and only one "real" computer is available. In the old days, if a computer was broken, I'd try to see if I could get it to run without X so I could at least use lynx.
<aeth> Of course, Linux rarely fails like that these days...

<friscosam> when my dsl is acting wonky I can use my smart phone as a modem/hotspot so that's nice

<ZombieChicken> anyone know what email I could use to subscribe to the racket-users mailing list? The website is disagreeing with me

<clacke> ZombieChicken: I'm afraid it's gmail only?
<clacke> When I tried to subscribe with my primary address it subscribed my logged-in gmail instead.
<ZombieChicken> I had it with another accoun that was blocked (I think the provider wants to get rid of their free accounts)

<erkin> What's the idiomatic way to set an exit procedure for a (prematurely) terminated thread?
<erkin> Custodians seem to be a bit rough at shutting down threads. I need to let them pack things up but I feel that using mailboxes would greatly convolute the code.
<soegaard> erkin: Can you use an exception handler?
<soegaard> (not sure about details though - so it might the wrong way to do it)

<erkin> Is there an exception for thread kill signals?
<soegaard> Hmm. Maybe not. I misread "If the current custodian does not manage thd (and none of its subordinates manages thd), the exn:fail:contract exception is raised, and the thread is not killed or suspended."
