<TD-Linux> opus could potentially work pretty well for compressing the samples better than whatever the original hardware did
<TD-Linux> opus on floppy sounds ok if you're willing to cram less than 30 minutes on
<TD-Linux> there's very little research into doing music sub 24kbps or so

<andlabs> yeah that's just a minor photoshop on a real thing
<andlabs> because RTX8030 is a graphics card by nviia
<andlabs> nvidia
<cr1901_modern> Huh... so TIL Yamaha makes routers
<cr1901_modern> I guess it's like Hyundai in that it makes everything (ships, cars, used to make motherboards)?
<superctr__> yeah they also make switches and wireless access points
<superctr__> and VPN software apparently
<andlabs> can't wait for yamaha vpn to start sponsoring fm music youtube channels

<cr1901_modern> >and VPN software apparently
<cr1901_modern> Oh HELL NO
<m4t> just finished up the second megagrrl. well, i finished it a few days ago but the solder i guess warped the bourns pot so that the wiper was no longer making contact and it was reading mohm resistance range :(
<m4t> it was the last component i soldered on the second of two that i built. and desoldering it didn't work completely, so i cut it off, and then like a dummy lifted half the gnd pads :(
<m4t> but i turned lemons into lemonade and replaced it with a stepped attenuator. used 6 of these https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/575-3720014150000030 on one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/DACT-Type-21-Stepped-Attenuator-Volume-10K-for-Preamp-Hi-Fi-Grade-/201654895776
<m4t> now it's "hifi" :)

<andlabs> but what about the woodgrain combined with chrome
<m4t> hmm i could mask off the display and use some chrome spray paint
<m4t> i do have a shiny anodized blue pot knob on the way. not chrome but still kind of fancy.
<m4t> btw does anyone know of a collection of "top" vgm tracks? i've been on project2612 and downloaded some of the most popular games, but it'd be nice to have a ready-made playlist.
<cr1901_modern> Thunder Force 4, Devilish, Star Cruiser, Shining In the Darkness, Vapor Trail are the first 5 that come to mind that _I_ personally like best
<cr1901_modern> most ppl will add Streets Of Rage 2, which of course is good, but I like the above more :P
<racoon> mega turrican, gain ground
<cr1901_modern> dynamite headdy might also be a good one
<cr1901_modern> racoon: Gain Ground is pretty neat. Never heard of it before tonight
<racoon> it's a weird ass game. kinda strategy before strategy games were invented. or reverse tower defence maybe? very unpopular arcade game with a very good md port
<racoon> i like it a lot actually
<cr1901_modern> reverse tower defense? As in "you are trying to get to the exit", rather than "protect the exit"?
<racoon> yes
<racoon> i have the theme to Mystic Defender's first stage stuck in my head, so that too I guess
<racoon> mystic defender is similar to revenge of shinobi so throw that one in too, amazing soundtrack
<cr1901_modern> Alisia Dragoon is a good one too
<cr1901_modern> I unironically like Sonic Spinball's soundtrack
<m4t> thanks, will grab those
<racoon> don't grab gain ground it's actuallly bad i just have a soft spot for it. the other recs are all solid
