thanks a lot rm :)
<sspiff>
do you have any idea about the serial-over-usb thing?
<rm>
no
<sspiff>
alright, thanks for all the info :)
<RaYmAn>
it's probably not impossible, but wouldn't expect u-boot to support it as is
<rm>
why do you need serial console in the first place, do you have a bootup problem currently?
<sspiff>
rm: no, but I'd like to make it boot android from SD
<sspiff>
and I will need to rebuild android quite a few times
<sspiff>
it's for a prototype product thing
<sspiff>
so I'd just like to have a uboot on SD that can load and boot android

<hno>
sspiff, you have no UART pins?
<sspiff>
not sure if you have any other suggestions? booting from flash would be OK, but I have no idea how to create an image from source that I can flash to my device (the CM instructions for the A10 I followed generate a zip file and I can't flash that from livesuit...)
<sspiff>
hno: I do, but I have no UART converter
<RaYmAn>
you can probably get one locally.. Just a lot more expensive (e.g. 30-40$ instead of 1-2$ :P)
<hno>
Then get one. You can probably find one in a drawer somewhere, many old phone cables have one (before phones spoke USB directly)

sspiff, andriod should be pretty much the same process.
<hno>
1. install u-boot
<hno>
2. partition
<hno>
3. populate rootfs etc as needed
<hno>
4. boot
<hno>
and without uart, pray that it works..
<specing>
hehe
<specing>
you must put the device on an altar beforehand
<hno>
something like that yes.

it has, on the inside

with a usb connector? o.O

why would I want an otg cable then if it's just pins?
<mnemoc>
to play with fel and usb gadget
<mnemoc>

<Turl>
yeah but why OTG?
<Turl>
you'll need to strip the connector anyway

[02:05:33] <RaYmAn> though, I guess if boot1 is fubared, it'll probably enter FEL automatically - thats right, if you dont end flashing with livesuit right way, device will be stuck in FEL. there are definetely some checks on that.
