I have a problem... I have some `ipfs pin add` jobs running for ... rather long now... two or three days for at least one of them... but when I visit the gateway, the data is there... so I guess something is wrong with my nodes ... how can I fix this? Do I have to `ipfs swarm connect` to some nodes?
<musicmatze>
(afk for lecture now for ~3 hrs)
<nannal__>
you don't have to run swarm connect, I assume you're connected to nodes if you do swarm peers
<daviddias>
lgierth is working on making sure that the bootstrapers are stable for browser nodes (right now there are some funky timeouts for browser conns)

<brodo>
hi, quick question: are the links in IPFS objects the hashes of other IPFS objects or only of the data parts of other objects? i.e. there could be two objects with the same content but different links, do they still get different hashes? (i suspect yes, but i want to be sure)
<lgierth>
links are a tuple of (name, hash, size)
<lgierth>
so yes you can have different links to the same hash
<nannal_>
musicmatze: Yeah I'm having literally no problems with it
<musicmatze>
nannal_: yeah, my nodes are running for 4 hours now pinning this... no load on the machines. for other hashes, they run for more than 1 day already
<brodo>
wait, so do the links point to IPFS object or to the data wrapped by these objects directly?
<brodo>
s/object/objects

<whyrusleeping>
musicmatze: do you have any peers?
<whyrusleeping>
what OS?
<whyrusleeping>
what version of ipfs?
<musicmatze>
whyrusleeping: I'm running this on debian 8 ipfs version 0.4.6
<musicmatze>
ipfs swarm peers | wc -l gives me 430
<whyrusleeping>
musicmatze: try updating to 0.4.8
<musicmatze>
on one of my two nodes, the other should be the same (debian 8 ,ipfs version 0.4.6)
<musicmatze>
ah, okay...
<whyrusleeping>
i'm not actually sure what the issue could be ere
<musicmatze>
installed via nix pkg manager, so I guess this should be easy :-)
<whyrusleeping>
but we've solved several decently large problems since 0.4.6
<whyrusleeping>
:)
<musicmatze>
will do after I watched "Juan Benet: Enter the Merkle Forest" (awesome!)
<whyrusleeping>
heh, i gave a talk at that event too
<whyrusleeping>
not quite as inspiring as juans though
<musicmatze>
I don't know whether IPLD is already there and usable, but if it is I really want to do something with it in my masters thesis
<whyrusleeping>
oh yeah, watch my talk then
<musicmatze>
(which starts at the end of this year, sept/oct) :-)
<whyrusleeping>
they used my real name, annoyingly enough
<musicmatze>
I'm at a university of applied sciences, so I cannot do some heavy-theoretical stuff, but smth more practical :-)
<musicmatze>
Thinking about different things atm

would it be possible to develop dynamic webpages on ipfs?
<nannal_>
You can serve js
<victorbjelkholm>
vapid: sure thing. Any particular use case you have in mind?
<vapid>
with a central server handling logons / etc but the content itself being hosted in a distributed way
<vapid>
i mean server-side scripting
<vapid>
because you obviously cannot do ajax
<vapid>
dunno
<nannal_>
You can't do Mysql connections etc
<nannal_>
you can send post parameters though

Hi! I'm confused: the example on the multihash github shows the multihash of "multihash" is QmYtUc4iTCbbfVSDNKvtQqrfyezPPnFvE33wFmutw9PBBk. I did it step by step and it worked. However on IPFS, this hash doesn't resolve to anything, and when adding "multihash", the digest returns is QmZLXzjiZU39eN8QirMZ2CGXjMLiuEkQriRu7a7FeSB4fg
