JCaesar: no. We explicitly designed it not to provide any high level features
<whyrusleeping>
It is expected that those sorts of things will be built on top of the base layer pubsub
<whyrusleeping>
at some point, we may built some of those ourselves, if nobody else does

And IPFS has a network portability layer, libp2p, which if I understand correctly allows the use of many underlying protocols.

Hi everyone - I'm looking into building a P2P app using go-libp2p. Have a couple of special requirements and am wondering about the best way to go about it.
mildred has joined #ipfs
<Winston1234>
Specifically, we have an existing encrypted protocol that we're already using in a client-server fashion. It's highly optimized and operates over many ports simultaneously, so we'd like to keep it as is and just use libp2p's peer discovery system in conjunction with it.
mildred has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<Winston1234>
Also, we need to capture latency and several custom connection stats for each peer which we have to collect with custom logic. Finally, the peerstore needs to be persistent between application restarts.
<Winston1234>
If anyone has any high-level suggestions on how to implement this, I would appreciate any advice!

when building go-ipfs, is bin/gx and bin/gx-go always replaced? i had to change the makefile when compiling on a musl machine, because the gx files pulled in by go-ipfs' build process is linked against glibc
<wowaname>
i already had a gx and gx-go program, latest version, in ~/.local/bin
<wowaname>
and PATH set
<wowaname>
changing the makefile to force the build to use system-installed gx and gx-go worked fine, i was able to build
<wowaname>
but i want to know whether this is a bug or if i need to do something on my side

Hmmm, you can also just do `ipfs get /ipns/dist.ipfs.io/go-ipfs/v0.4.13` or whatever. Nice.
