<wonderworld>
navigating menus is instant on my raspi
<wonderworld>
searching for content depends on the plugin used i guess
<ghostboarder>
in this case, realdebrid with Gaia
<ca_cabotage>
my j3355b isn't android but it sure is amazing and hassle free, 24/7 uptime for like a year except for when i update it, which takes all of about 2 minutes - no moving parts and passively cooled as well!
<wonderworld>
but i have no experience to compare my performance
<ghostboarder>
well shoot then, maybe i should just try the LE for my rpi3 then
<wonderworld>
well if you have a pi available already, give it it shot. nothing to lose

ca_cabotage: the only crash i am experiencing regulary is, when i choose a search suggestion in the search screen. LE just freezes.
<ca_cabotage>
hm, is there anything in the logs?
<wonderworld>
stopped using them because it's like a minefield. never know if it would freeze the system or not and i am too lazy to stand up and reboot the box :)
<ca_cabotage>
haha yeah i hear you
<ca_cabotage>
fwiw i can't think of any issues i've had, any my kids are constantly smashing the wireless keyboard putting in god knows what random input to the system
<wonderworld>
strange, maybe i will check the log, but it's not that bad. can live without the suggestions
<ca_cabotage>
j3355b is cheap too, mine uses a cheap fanless psu and a cheap little ssd so it's 0 moving parts and consumes about as much power as a small CFL lightbulb while making no noise whatsoever.
<ca_cabotage>
if your system is having issues i'd recommend a setup like that
<ca_cabotage>
it has hardware hevc decoding as well
<wonderworld>
is it fast enough to run PSX?
<ca_cabotage>
what's psx?
<wonderworld>
Playstation 1
<ca_cabotage>
hmm, maybe i've never tried - do you have a reference for a cpu that can run it?
<wonderworld>
well the Pi3 works fine
<ca_cabotage>
oh
<ca_cabotage>
then i would imagine yes it would have no issues with it
<wonderworld>
hehe ok

<wonderworld>
i really like the form factor. i take it with me for holidays to escape terrible hotel tv.
<ca_cabotage>
well i found a review of the pi3 whetstone scores are are a little over 1,000 while a j3355 is about 3500
<wonderworld>
nice, so it can be a real nice gaming box for your kids as well
<ca_cabotage>
shit, sry i paosted the wrong link 3 fuckin times haha
<ca_cabotage>
those last two have some comprable benchmarks for a ballpark idea
<ca_cabotage>
but in general it looks like the j3355 is much more powerful
<wonderworld>
yes it is
<ghostboarder>
guys, why cant i write this to SD? The forums are rife with users who are fully able to use a android box (in this case M8S) to use LE
<ghostboarder>
OpenELEC-Amlogic.arm-M8S-6.0.1.zip
<wonderworld>
ghostboarder: how are you trying to write it to SD?
<wonderworld>
what error do you get?

ok, ive installed LE on my Pi3, and everything works great, including installing the Gaia repo, but immediately upon trying to install the Gaia addon, my Pi freezes solid. Tried 3 times now. Other addons from the same repo install fine

<mack->
ghostboarder: in response to something you said a while back, when I first install LE on my RPi2 navigating the menus was pretty slow. I moved the database off the piece of crap SD card and it sped up. I replaced with another SD card of the same make and capacity and it was smooth as glass. Some (many) SD cards are just crap.
<ghostboarder>
thanks mack- although, LE is perfect as of right now. Addons install fine, but attempting to install Gaia from the Gaia repo locks it solid
<mack->
also, the same rules for the forum applies here to irc: Gaia addon

Hi, upgraded from LE 8.95.003 to 9.0.0 Generic on a Chromebox and it has resulted in the Kodi going into red safemode and constantly rebooting. Tried some milhouse nightlies and reverting back to 8.95.003 and it hasn't helped. Am I going to need to do a total clean install? dmesg seems to show a kodi.bin segfault
<ant_thomas>
deleting the .kodi folder seems to have fixed it somewhat. Dodgy addon I guess
jucaroba has joined #libreelec
<mack->
ant_thomas: if deleting the .kodi folder stops it from rebooting, then going into safe mode should have stopped the rebooting too.
<ant_thomas>
mack- : you'd have thought so, but unfortunately not. Copied various config files over, addon_data and a select few addons I use. Gave me a good opportunity to tidy up the system

I guess I'll read again what safe mode actually does.

<marsje>
not I installed the thing on my harddisk and wiped kodibuntu from my harddisk... and now... no ssh :-(

after installing that and a reboot it seems to work
