<ukleinek> how hard would it be to get libreelec on an x32 laptop up and running? I saw the build system only supports x84_64
andre4s has joined #libreelec
<zhasha> Do you mean i686 or did you actually mean x32 and, if so, why?
<ukleinek> no, not x32, i686 is more like it
<ukleinek> hmm, it seems I'm one of 0.003% of the users ...
RaphGro has quit [Quit: Please remember your own message. It'll be read as soon as possible.]
<zhasha> Would your hardware even be capable of running it? I was running on an amd64 Atom N330 with nVIDIA ION until recently and it was just barely chugging along
<ukleinek> I don't know
<zhasha> it was quite painful. Kodi isn't exactly light weight
<EuroTrash> It mostly comes down to the graphics card
<EuroTrash> But if your machine has any sort of hardware accel, I guess it's easier to just install 6.x
<jokke> anyone here running libreelec on a rpi4 and experiencing random crashes just from browsing through the library?
<chewitt> ukleinek: around 95% of the current build system supports 32-bit fine (as RPi0/1/2/3 are 32-bit and we run 32-bit userspace on all the ARM images)
<chewitt> so mostly it's about reverting the 32-bit drop
<chewitt> and then figuring out the few things that don't build
<chewitt> *but* as EuroTrash says, performance is dictated by the GPU and these days most devices that have 32-bit hardware will be a bit sucky
<chewitt> jokke: yes, but only on pre-release dev images browsing 4k media with a forced 1GB configuration and before the memory allocations were changed
<chewitt> and not so random ..
<ukleinek> chewitt: it's a pentium M @1.5 GHz and I think the resolution is 1024x768.
<ukleinek> with intel graphics obviously

<jokke> chewitt: hm
_abbenormal has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<jokke> i've got mixed media but just scrolling through the list of movies for example can freeze it completely
<jokke> it then becomes completely unresponsive (also not reachable from ssh)
<jokke> i then have to do a power cycle
<chewitt> ^ that's what was needed for i386 in 2016
<chewitt> jokke: did you update an older install or clean install the RPi4?
_abbenormal has joined #libreelec
<ukleinek> chewitt: oh great. Maybe I will just try that version to get an impression if the hardware is capable to run kodi
<jokke> chewitt: clean install
<jokke> this one:
<jokke> LibreELEC-RPi4.arm-9.1.001.img.gz
<jokke> i did change some things in /flash/config.txt though
<jokke> mainly hdmi_enable_4k=1 and hdmi_force_hotplug=1
<jokke> chewitt: it's the 1G version
<jokke> and it's hooked to a 4K tv
<jokke> ah maybe it's this error
<jokke> 2019-07-13 16:58:33.579 T:2352128880 ERROR: DoWork - Direct texture file loading failed for special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/2/24f131b0.jpg
<jokke> found it as the last entry in kodi.old.log after power cycling
<ukleinek> chewitt: doesn't build out of the box, there is no linux.i386.conf

<zzlatev> hey guys, how can I install libreelec on amd64?
<EuroTrash> Use generic
BCMM has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<chewitt> ukleinek: to clarify.. that series of commits is what was required for mk1 AppleTV images (i386) in 2016
<chewitt> it'll be about 95% of the commits required for a 'Generic' image
<chewitt> and it will be completely out of date for current LE
<ukleinek> how do you run libreelec during development? You probably won't install it after every change on real hardware, do you?
<ukleinek> chewitt: yeah, that's how I understood it
<zzlatev> EuroTrash: what do you mean? I know which image I've to use. But i don't know how to install it to internal HDD
<ukleinek> zzlatev: cat it onto an usbstick and boot from that.
<zzlatev> ukleinek: I boot from usb, but can't install to HDD.
<zzlatev> sorry for my late reply.

<zzlatev> I have only live and run
<zzlatev> I don't have Install LibreELEC
<zzlatev> Like this photo:
<zzlatev> ukleinek: how to get to this "Main Menu"
<EuroTrash> zzlatev: hm normally if you do nothing, it should boot into that menu

<tonsofpcs> hi all, Looking at the RPi 4, there's no hardware MPEG2 decode but the notes in the 9.2A1 release post say it performs similar to a 3B - is this comparison valid for MPEG2 with Hardware decoding on a 3 vs software on a 4 or is it only valid for software-to-software comparison?
<zzlatev> EuroTrash: but what should I do? I don't know.
<ukleinek> zzlatev: describe in more detail what happens when you boot from the usb stick
<zzlatev> I boot from usb stick and the only options I have are RUN and LIVE.
<zzlatev> When I choose RUN, LE installs to USB.
<zzlatev> I don't have this "Main Menu" and these options - https://www.smarthomebeginner.com/images/2017/06/IMG_0008-500x294.jpg
<ukleinek> zzlatev: does the BIOS detect your hard disk?
<zzlatev> yes, but on that disk is Linux Mint Mate and Windows 7.
