<tonsofpcs> masch: my understanding is that it should boot similarly to a rpi 3 build, maybe you can find qemu configs for one of those?

<zzlatev> ukleinek: so where's the problem then? The installer doesn't run at all.
<vpeter> I doubt it will work because yet.
<zzlatev> vpeter: hey, is that directed to me?

<vpeter> Sorry, it was meant to masch.

<zzlatev> :)
<zzlatev> hey guys, how can I install libreelec on amd64? It doesn't show me "Main Menu" with option install LibreELEC
_whitelogger has joined #libreelec
<vpeter> Are you using official image? Because default option is to run installer.
<vpeter> What happen when you boot from USB stick?
<zzlatev> Yes, I use the image from the USB Creator that downloads the image
<zzlatev> I boot from usb stick and the only options I have are RUN and LIVE.
<zzlatev> When I choose RUN, LibreELEC installs to USB.
<zzlatev> and starts from USB
<vpeter> And if you don't do anything on boot what happen?
<zzlatev> It starts Linux Mint
<vpeter> Strange. And if you type Installer or installer at boot prompt what happens?
<chewitt> masch: LE does not (never has done and has no plan to) support boot of RPi images in qemu
<chewitt> if you want to test something there's an OVA image you can import to vmware
<chewitt> but that's vmware only .. if it happens to work in anything else that's accidental not intentional
<zzlatev> vpeter: I haven't tried.
<chewitt> zzlatev: default 'Generic' image has a syslinux boot prompt with live/run .. and if you don't touch anything it will continue to 'installer' mode which gives you the screen
<chewitt> live/run is only on-screen for a few seconds
<zzlatev> well, OK, I will try.
<chewitt> if you stopped boot there, type install or installer (not sure which) and it should continue as normal
<vpeter> But if he doesn't type anything system from hdd is booted.
<vpeter> Installer should be run by default. So something strange is happening.
<zzlatev> Should I erase the whole HDD before anything else?
<vpeter> No need.
<zzlatev> Yeah...
<zzlatev> Maybe I should change the boot menu?
<vpeter> There is no need to anything.
<vpeter> Just press space or tab to see boot prompt and type installer.
<zzlatev> When I press TAB I see LIVE and RUN
<vpeter> Ok, tell me which image did you select in USB installer?
TomTom has joined #libreelec
<zzlatev> LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-9.0.1.img.gz
<oblikoamorale> current version is 9.0.2
<oblikoamorale> also i don't see uppercased LIVE and RUN words in LE's mkimage script...
<zzlatev> Do you think that might be the problem
<vpeter> There is no general problem :)
<zzlatev> What do you mean?
<vpeter> There is no problem with image itself. Only in your case there is something strange.
<vpeter> Do you see this message "Wait for installer to start or press <TAB> for more options (live, run)" ?
<vpeter> on boot
<zzlatev> Yes, but it doesn't start the installer.
<vpeter> If you press tab or space at that moment you see boot prompt?
<zzlatev> Yes
<vpeter> And which system is this? Some Intel NUC or custom build machine?
<zzlatev> Custom build machine - AMD64
<vpeter> And if you type installer what happen? Just linux from hdd?
<vpeter> Which graphic card?
<zzlatev> Just Linux from HDD, yes
<zzlatev> Nvidia
<vpeter> So maybe installer is run but it crashes somehow and it continue to loading Linux.
<vpeter> Can you press F8 or some other key to get bootable devices menu from BIOS?
<zzlatev> I have HDD and USB
<zzlatev> I can't see the installer running, but it might be, yes
<vpeter> Can you boot from EFI?
<zzlatev> what is EFI?
<chewitt> type "installer" instead of live/run
<zzlatev> OK
<vpeter> Which nvidia card?
<zzlatev> I have to check
<chewitt> boot from an Ubuntu (or other Linux) live USB and wipe the target disk
<chewitt> note that LE requires a disk to install to, so it cannot replace the Mint partition on a disk that contains Mint + Windows
<vpeter> Still installer should run.
<zzlatev> That's a good suggestion, but the installer should run in any case, right?
<vpeter> If you type live does le starts?
<zzlatev> Yes
<vpeter> :)
<zzlatev> ?
<vpeter> Do you have TV connected? Try monitor if you can.
<zzlatev> Yes, I have monitor
_whitelogger has joined #libreelec
<vpeter> Now you have connected what?
<zzlatev> Monitor
<vpeter> I though it would work with monitor.
<vpeter> Try tv then.
<zzlatev> I have tried both
<vpeter> I'm out of ideas atm.
<zzlatev> Thank you for everything
<vpeter> Maybe some extra parameter to boot parameters could help. Like vga with some value.
<zzlatev> OK, I'll try!

<oblikoamorale> out of curiosity, just tested the 9.0.1 generic image: installer runs automatically, no need to select or type anything
<zzlatev> It works. I've wipe all disk.
<zzlatev> vpeter: thank you for everything, dude!
<vpeter> Working after disk wipe?
<zzlatev> Yes
<vpeter> Funny. Something to remember. Or fix installer :)

<oblikoamorale> vpeter: what's weird is that to my understanding installer should run unconditionally since bootloader menu itself is static. I didn't dig deep, maybe there's some detection going on behind the loader scenes, but in my test case installer ran even on diskless system

<chewitt> twanny796: the image is written to an SD card (overwrites and repartitions the SD card) not copied to an existing SD card
<vpeter> oblikoamorale: I would assume that main installer menu should come up always.

<oblikoamorale> ...if it runs, yes. I'm just trying to understand why installer entry was missing in boot loader menu. or was it...
martian67 has joined #libreelec
<vpeter> It can't be missed because it is always there. Look the code.
<vpeter> And he manually type installer and it was known boot entry. Because it didn't return any error.
<vpeter> So installer runs on it's own too.
