<aphirst>
with libreelec on an rpi4 (2GB model), has anyone else manually set a cache size with advancedsettings.xml, and if so, how high were you able to go>
<lrusak>
I wouldn't worry about changing that :)
<aphirst>
the kodi wiki says the default was 20MiB so i bumped mine up to 128MiB (in bytes)
<aphirst>
but i'm not sure what's really going on behind the scenes
<lrusak>
why do you think you need to change that?
<aphirst>
good question
<aphirst>
on my laptop (admittedly with 32GB of RAM) i have mpv set up with a ridiculous cache size which is nice in practice sometimes as it lets my (often busy) disks get on with their own thing without constant interruption
<aphirst>
whereas kodi on the rpi4 under the TV seems to keep the network and network-attached disks active for basically the whole time and makes them pretty sensitive to periods when the server chokes up
<aphirst>
noticeable on some high bitrate files, kodi quickly exhausts a cache during "oh god disks are busy" moments that, tbh it should have cached ahead for
<lrusak>
sounds like a problem with your NAS :)

<mack->
Have you caused your server to be choking because you've changed cache settings on everything connected to it? :)
<mack->
shared resources are designed to do a little bit, get out of the way, then do a little bit more, then get out of the way.
TheSilentLink_ is now known as TheSilentLink
<lrusak>
the reason the kodi cache is set that way is to avoid invalidating a large cache anytime there is a skip or seek
<aphirst>
lrusak, well yes the NAS is a potato that is sometimes busy with a bittorrent session
<aphirst>
this blocking "other" IO is usually in brief bursts
