<lrusak>
also is alarm using the mainline kernel or RPi vendor kernel?

<aphirst>
lrusak, alarm uses mainline kernel but there's also a newer linux-raspberrypi4 kernel package which i'm using
<aphirst>
anyway it seems for the cpu both devices/setups are using ondemand
<aphirst>
i think the behaviour of "Core" is coming from somewhere else
<aphirst>
that libreelec is setting but that alarm isn't
<lrusak>
could be the firmware
<aphirst>
i booted libreelec on all my boards once and ran the bootloader update, though i do think alarm supplies newer firmware images that are used live
<aphirst>
might have to make an alarm forum thread
<aphirst>
just a bit dumb that the graphics core isn't spinning down on what i intend to be a headless server; i assumed that librelec was consciously doing something to trigger that but maybe alarm is doing something big and wrong
<aphirst>
i seem to have been able to force it by adding `gpu_freq_min=200`, `core_freq_min=250` and `core_freq=250` to my boot config.txt
<aphirst>
libreelec is *not* doing this, not visibly anyway, but i at least seem to be getting appropriate clocks for these hardware parts i'll almost never use
<aphirst>
saved about half a degree too
<lrusak>
I’m running 4 RPi4’s headless and never bothered to look into that
<lrusak>
But I’m using mainline kernel and fedora
<aphirst>
some textt say you shouldn't set core_freq but it didn't affect booting for me, maybe this has been fixed in a recent firmware update
<aphirst>
when running headless i like to squeeze whatever i can out of the parts of the board i won't use
<aphirst>
i'm using the overlays for disabling wifi and bt too
