yeah, my experience with SD cards isn't a wear-leveling thing. It's just a high percentage just don't last long in something other than a camera.
<mack->
and by that I really mean "in usage other than something similar than camera usage"

hello, I want to enable ssh support by modifying the fs, how can I do that?
<ukleinek>
background of the question is: My raspberry pi comes up just fine but USB doesn't work. So I cannot enable ssh to debug that using the GUI
<pkill9>
ukleinek: possibly enabling ssh service in /etc/systemd
<pkill9>
can't remember how, you can make a symlink somewhere I think
<ukleinek>
pkill9: I don't find the /etc folder on the sd card
* ukleinek
suspects it hides in the SYSTEM file
<ukleinek>
that's a lzo compressed squashfs
<asdf28>
ukleinek: add "ssh" to the kernel command line
<asdf28>
it's in a text file on the first partition of the sd card
<ukleinek>
asdf28: already done, about to test
<asdf28>
or create an empty file /storage/.cache/services/sshd.conf

storage being your second SD card partition
<ukleinek>
asdf28: \o/

it seems the kernel doesn't have the driver enabled. Is anybody using libreelec on an rpi4?

projects/RPi/devices/RPi4/linux/linux.arm.conf:# CONFIG_USB_DWC2 is not set
* ukleinek
tries to build from git

<ukleinek>
lrusak: yeah, that the USB ports are disabled in the dtb is specific for the cm4, I'm unsure why the rpi4 doesn't seem to use the DWC2 driver
<lrusak>
just a different USB chip I guess
<lrusak>
I never received a CM4 so I wasn't ever able to test :)
<ukleinek>
lrusak: So I was more lucky than you. (I explained dt-overlays to a Debian guy and his customer sent me a cm4 (and a cm3)) :-)
<lrusak>
I have a CM3, I just may have missed the email in the alpha program for a CM4 :)
* ukleinek
is surprised that the rpicm4 has a different usb controller than the normal rpi4
<ukleinek>
lrusak: the bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb also has the (default disabled) /soc/usb@7e980000 node that requires the DWC2 driver
<lrusak>
interesting
<ukleinek>
lrusak: and I didn't spot an alternative hardware in the dtb that could drive an USB host.
<ukleinek>
But I don't have an rpi4 at hand to test

<aphirst>
not sure whether my question is better directed here or #kodi
<aphirst>
I noticed just now that, say for a film or a series or something, viewing Information about it triggers an attempt to read or access the file corresponding to that entry
<aphirst>
i noticed it because i have the disks in my NAS configured to spin down when inactive
<aphirst>
mum pressed 'i' on some film to read the synopsis or look at the cast or whatever, and the disks span up
<ukleinek>
aphirst: sounds normal, the file is read to check if it contains metainfo (just my uninformed guess)
<aphirst>
the question is: how do I stop this
<ukleinek>
aphirst: let your mother return the remote control :-)
<aphirst>
i don't want kodi to cause the disks to spin up unless it's doing a scan for a database update or actually loading a video for watching
<aphirst>
or, say, manually browsing the NFS share via the file browser or something
<aphirst>
mum reminding herself who was in film X by viewing the cast in the info then deciding not to watch it should not trigger a disk wakeup IMO

<aphirst>
ukleinek, the file shouldn't be read again as the info about the file should already be in the database
lrusak has joined #libreelec
<aphirst>
maybe i should put this at #kodi instead
